Nicely maintained heritage hotel. Comfortable rooms,
Service was great from the start to the end of our stay.
Will be nice to just stay in and relax even without doing any sightseeing.
Walking distance to the Nuwara Eliya town. Excellent food and service too,
The vibe was truly wonderful, and it is one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka we have stayed at. We stayed at the Grand Hotel for only one night, and it was simply not enough time we would have loved to stay longer.
The hotel has a remarkable 200year history, and the welcome we received was very polite and professional. The food was delicious.
Special thanks to Mr. Farzan for making us feel truly special and for making our stay even more memorable.
This hotel is Grand in all the main areas, the rooms not so much. We were part of a tour group so possibly had the worst rooms. It wasn’t really that modern, the bathroom although spacious had the shower over a very skinny bath, who made it awkward even for a 5ft2 female. It was very noisy at night, we could hear the piped music in the hallway and screaming kids running up the hallways… we realised when we turned the light out our door had gaps all around it, hence the noise.
When checking out we mentioned this as being unacceptable and perhaps they could not charge us for our coffees we had sent up, they advised no that we should have told them in the night so they could move us. My husband explained we were already in bed and for one night wasn’t worth the hassle and perhaps they should already be aware of it from the room checks they should do. Note we had 2 rooms and our sons was quiet. The breakfast was the best part, extensive and delicious.
Absolutely loved every bit of the experience here. The vibe, the food and the amenities are a class apart. Even the service was extremely good. Specifically Mr. Duminda, Mr Anura De Silva, Mr Farzan & Ms Tharushi were so much sweeter
We stayed for a couple of nights in the Presidential Suite with our children and had a wonderful experience overall. The music room, bar, and wine room transport you into an entirely different world—elegant and immersive. Roshan, our personal butler, was exceptional and took care of every detail, including arranging custom in-room dining whenever we needed it. Thoughtful service and beautiful spaces made this a truly memorable stay for our family.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya just between Christmas and New Year, before heading on to Kandy and Habarana, and it was a perfect start to our Sri Lanka trip.
The hotel is very grand and elegant, with beautiful colonial architecture and a real sense of history. The Christmas decorations were absolutely stunning — some of the best we’ve seen — and combined with live music in the bar, created a magical and festive atmosphere.
There are four restaurants on site (Thai, Indian, International, and the Barnes Hall buffet), so there is something for every taste. The Barnes Hall buffet caters extremely well for all preferences. Afternoon tea was also excellent and very popular — LKR 7,500 per head and well worth it. Sauna and steam room are available at an extra charge.
What really makes this hotel special, however, is the staff. Everyone was genuinely kind and attentive. A special thank you to Frazer, one of the porters, who noticed immediately when my daughter fell in the garden and came over with first-aid supplies — such a thoughtful and caring gesture. We also want to thank Tharushi, the wonderful hostess who greeted us warmly on arrival and also wished us farewell. Her hospitality made us feel truly welcome.
A beautiful hotel with fantastic service, great food, and a memorable atmosphere. We would happily return.
The hotel is very nice and centrally located. The dinner buffet is great and the waitress Manoja was very kind and attentive!
The food and service was really great our waitress Maroja was very friendly anf attentive. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area
This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed.
From the check in to check out it was a wonderful experience for us which made the stay so comfortable.
Special thanks to Farzan from the front office who made the check in smooth with a warm welcoming smile who is very helpful in every way which is very remarkable for us.
And also would like to mention about Tharushi from the front office who is also gave us a good service from the start to the end of our stay. And my baby also liked Farzan and Tharushi a lot because they are really friendly and helpful. Thank you both of you for making our stay so so special. Keep it up. Will definitely visit this place often.
We all love you ❤️😍
The service here is excellent, the staff are all so friendly and attentive, in particular Arosha and Manoja. The building is wonderful and looks very festive and there are so many cosy rooms to sit in to enjoy a drink and some live music.
Starting with the warm welcome by Kumar, the chief concierge, to high tea in the veranda and a sumptuous Christmas gala and decorations, everything was perfrct
Gorgeous hotel with great facilities. We used them for our tea tour - it was so easy to organise and a very enjoyable experience. We had an amazing tour guide called Anushka. She was fantastic. 10/10 recommend.
Christmas week at the Grand Hotel is a whole different experience. With the decorations and lighting, it truly feels like stepping into another world. Once again, the hotel looked absolutely stunning right from the entrance, and we enjoyed every bit of our stay. This was our second visit during this season, coming at a time when life is slowly getting back to normal after the recent natural disaster.
We spent two nights there and also got a rare opportunity to experience the relaunch and reopening of their main restaurant, Barnes Hall. It now has a fresh and brand new look with all the amenities, while still preserving the classic Grand identity.
The staff were super friendly, and the international buffet was great with an excellent variety of selections. If anyone is planning to spend some time in a Victorian holiday setting right here in Sri Lanka and in 'Little England' it self, the Grand Hotel is not something to miss. It almost feels unfair to even mention the usual highlights like spacious rooms etc. as those usuals go beyond expectations.
Everything at the Grand Hotel felt just perfect, including the gym, the heated pool, and the beautifully maintained garden areas filled with picture perfect spots. My family and I truly enjoyed our time there. During this season, there is something for everyone, with different kinds of music and live bands across multiple locations. The special note below perfectly captures how magical this experience was, specially through the eyes of a four year old.
My experience at this hotel was beyond memorable. NE grand is most famous for their hospitality and they never disappoint. Kumar, Arosha, Kamal and every other staff member made my stay very comfortable and they went above and beyond to accommodate all my requests. The rooms are cozy and fully equipped and whole atmosphere of the hotel is so warm and welcoming. The food is 10/10, so much variety and premium quality. It is definitely worth every penny.
Kumar and all the staff we’re extremely friendly and always had a smile on there faces. Would highly recommend this place to visit
Beautiful hotel in gorgeous surroundings. Even more with the Christmas decorations up! The warm hospitality shown, great service and friendly team is definitely an asset to the hotel. It’s well maintained and have thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Special mention to Tharushi and Kumar (hope I have not misspelled). High Tea is a highlight as it’s delicious!
Drive from Kandy and the roads has been cleared after the cyclone/landslides also so do come and visit Sri Lanka.
I have been going to the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya for as long as I can remember. Certainly for over 40 years. I have seen its many different phases, sometimes rather run down and unloved, tired and shabby but always with a certain old world charm which was ( and still is) rather endearing. This time however, it was absolutely glowing! Restored and renovated it shon even more so with the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations which were classy. Just what one would expect at the Grand! How wonderful! I feel that the hotel is now where it should be; one of our islands most iconic historic hotels, and a place to be proud of! Congratulations!
We had a most wonderful lunch at the western/local restaurant ( there is a Thai and Indian one too). My brother and I had the Rospaan with chicken and beef respectively with the most delicious “dunking “ gravy. My husband had the angus beef which was cooked to perfection and my sister-in- law enjoyed a good old fashioned hamburger with fries. The service was quick and professional with the head steward Anthony leading the team.
Just two minor points to look into; the washrooms should have bidet showers, and the tea/coffee cups in the restaurant should be replaced as the rims ( paint) is frayed and my cup had the smallest chip!
However, well done and best of luck!
An exceptional stay in such a beautiful hotel with the best service we experienced in Sri Lanka. The hotel is steeped in history with excellent facilities - a beautiful pool, sauna and spa so good we booked multiple treatments. We were stuck five nights due to cyclone Ditwah but the team (who were facing their own significant challenges) could not have been more considerate, accommodating and caring. The true test of a hotel is not being able to leave (constant rain and flooding) and being content, and we very much were.
Special mentions to our Butler Shiron who gave us a tour of the whole building and attended to our every need for our stay; Kumar the concierge and Saman for such a warm welcome; Raj and Bilal in the dining room and the house band for a very fun night over cocktails. Stunning gardens (even in the heavy rain) and outstanding nature nearby. Most comfortable beds. We already can’t wait to come back.
Superb hotel. Exquisite in character decor and ambience. The staff attend to guests every need. The food is excellent. We travelled here following the cyclone. Despite the challenges everything was perfect. Our room beautiful. I particularly would like to thank Indika restaurant manager and his team. Wonderful service all times of day. Manoi who welcomed us and patiently took several photographs of us posing with the reindeer sleigh, and Tiron who ensured my swims in the pool were peaceful and even had my towel ready. The Christmas decorations are the best I’ve ever seen. I wish we could be here to share in the festivities which no doubt will be great. Thank you to everyone at the Grand Hotel.
disappointed. Have had many a high tea but this was disappointing. No glass of bubbles included . Paid $30AUD for a glasses of orange juice, which when queried they stated was imported. tell us that before we order. Latte was very week
