Awful hotel, more like a doss house than a hotel,do not book this.
Pros:

Lovely location right in the middle of Pembroke town, near the castle. Great area for walking and the castle guided tour was a great experience.

Cons:

Very run down, nothing like the pictures on the booking.com website. Talking to the locals the restaurant associated with the pub had been closed for years. We arrived on a Friday evening and although the pub was open there was nobody in it and this was the same throughout the night. We went to another pub for our meal and they said people didn’t go to the middle gate as it was so rundown and the beer wasn’t fresh. The room said there was tea and coffee facilities but the long life milk cartons were 4 (four) months out of date and came out as solid lumps. On Saturday we couldn’t stop the shower from running and although we rang the number for emergencies in the room we got no answer but left a message informing them of the problem. We finally managed to contact them at 9pm at night when they told us they couldn’t keep up with the work and would like to sell up. The rooms were never cleaned or made up and the tea and coffee was never replenished. On Sunday the pub never even opened. This property should not be advertised on booking.com as the images shown do not reflect the venue and it put a distinct downer on our long weekend. There was nobody to hand the keys over to when we left so we just left them in the door to the room. This hotel is more like a doss house than a hotel and I feel booking.com misadvertised the property.

Pros:

Comfortable bed with well laundered white bedding and doona. Impeccable new looking bathroom. Whole place looked like recently painted and all new looking carpets. It was comfortably compact with bed, bedside- table, wardrobe, chest of drawers, kettle, tea, coffee supplied. Had my own key to room and front door just like my own home. Great position, right in middle of town.

Cons:

Nothing

Pros:

Location was central in the town and not too far from a local co-op, which was handy, however, because the room was facing the street it was very noisy, particularly at night.

Cons:

Noisy room, trash not taken out or towels and toiletries and tea/coffee not replaced, until had to chase owner for these things the following day. Room relatively cramped and attachments of furniture on the wall were loose. Shower never stayed consistent, either very cold or boiling hot.

It was unclear if the tap in the room was drinking water and very very difficult to find the host even by telephone call and never were shown physically about how to access the car park.

Lack of accessibility to the staff was a big problem every morning.

Room only- not a hotel.
Pros:

Central with good parking and comfy beds

Cons:

Thought I’d booked into a hotel - but it’s just room hire.
No restaurant, manned reception, breakfast facilities or bar!

Never again at this location.
Pros:

The staff were invisible, literally. The location was good for our purpose. The food facilities non existent.

Cons:

The property is being operated on a shoe string. The owners are absent; the staff, invisible, are doing their best to keep the hotel going. Access was very difficult, the ensuite was the size of a cupboard and very inadequate,; the advertised restaurant was closed. All in all the price charged per night was exorbitant; we stayed overnight in an airport hotel for little more with first class facilities incl. breakfast! This is a seriously misleading ad and facilities. Bookings needs to do a better job vetting properties.

A very decent stay. Perfect for walking the Welsh Coast path.
Pros:

Peter the manager welcomed me warmly and waited for me although my train was late by 1H10'. The room was very quiet and I slept well. Hotel look is basic but for the price I paid this was more than acceptable.

Cons:

No breakfast was provided which I understand in low season. I knew this was the case, so I was prepared.

Pros:

Unfortunately I had an unpleasant stay at the Middlegate Hotel - I stayed for 2 nights in Sept. 2025.
There was very loud music playing late into the night (until 11pm) on a weekday which made it impossible for me to sleep. A band playing very loud music right under my room.
This is not acceptable and made my stay at the hotel a miserable and a very negative experience.
And during the day there were strange people coming by my window and looking into and inspecting my room thereby violating my privacy. Again - this is unacceptable.
Thirdly, the shower was out of order and of course no one was present at the reception.
A functioning shower is essential as well as privacy and quiet night time.

Pros:

I don’t like anything about this property.

Cons:

I didn’t like the room service, as my room was never cleaned, I didn’t get teabags. The room itself was smelly and dirty. The water in the shower was either too cold or too hot. There were also cockroaches in the property. Bad hotel and bad service.
