Pros:

Our stay at Ikurangi Eco Retreat was wonderful from start to finish. The staff were warm, welcoming, and very accommodating. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and set in such a peaceful environment. The retreat itself is beautifully maintained—the pathways are swept daily, and the gardens are kept lush and immaculate. One of the highlights was enjoying breakfast each morning on our balcony—such a perfect way to start the day!

Nice but a bit overpriced
Pros:

Nice but a bit rundown. We had a good time and I prefer Ikurangi to a large busy hotel, but I think for the price it is in need of maintenance. We stayed in a traditional room. These were spacious and had a lot of privacy. But a few things were broken, rusting etc. We also had about 4 paper wasps come in our room every day even with windows and doors closed (they weren't aggressive but a bit unnerving). Vicky and Alan were great. They gave us spray for the wasps, and lots of useful information on arrival.

Everyday Alan makes a new breakfast. They are not large but were always delicious and waking up each day to a new surprise was a joy.

So we had a nice time. Hopefully they can do some maintenance to get the place up to a resort standard, or lower the price. We paid $250 per night. But based on other places we stayed in Rarotonga and the Pacific, I think $190 would be more appropriate.

Pros:

We stayed in one of the bungalows. It was comfortable, quiet and private with outdoor seating to enjoy the lush tropical surroundings. The breakfasts included were fresh and tasty. Hosts Vicki and Alan were especially helpful in recommending local restaurants, snorkeling locations and things to do. The property also provides bicycles and snorkeling equipment. We really enjoyed our six days at Ikurangi.

Pros:

Ikurangi is set in beautiful lush surroundings which are kept well maintained. A small retreat with no children made it very peaceful. Vicki and Allan were excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Their local knowledge was very helpful.

Pros:

We really enjoyed glamping, including the outdoor bathroom and composting loo! It was very clean, convenient but one or two things were a bit tired, eg basin shelf, toilet lid. The breakfasts were a great start to the day, and there was so much room not just in the tent area, but the immediate vicinity which contrasted so well with some of the resort facilities where rooms are on top of one another and conversation with neighbours is hard to avoid. The gardens are lovely and well maintained. We had a car which was very useful but not essential.

Pros:

Arrived early hours of the morning. Reception unmanned. Driver of airport minivan is your concierge. Might be pot luck if he knows where your tent is. Ours wasn't sure.

Tent 4 overlooks carpark and office. Not as private as tents 1, 2, 3 and uncomfortable with people looking directly into tent 4 from the carpark.

Roosters roam all over Rarotonga including Ikurangi - crowing all night long. Noisy road outside Tent 4 - sleep may escape you.

Equipment within the tent is poor/cheap quality. Bedding smelt damp. Ensuite benchtop varnish is peeling off.

Breakfasts are varied and delivered to the tent around 8.30am each day. Mostly tinned fruit and gloopy coconut stuff.

There were no children and related noise whilst we stayed which was the big bonus for us. Other occupants kept to themselves as we did.

Location is not near the ocean and is away from the resorts - another bonus.

No outside light for sitting on the deck in the evenings.

For this to be real "eco", we would have liked the electricity to be solar powered.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay mostly as we simply accept what is without fuss. We thought the use of the word "luxury" was a stretch but maybe not in comparison with a 2-man tent from KMart.

Expensive for what it is.

PS. room not serviced on the first day! Charged a lot more for 1 extra night (as we had a late arrival) than what we paid via Expedia despite the retreat having a "price promise"- not honoured Such is life.

Pros:

We loved our stay at Ikurangi - in fact, it was the highlight of our trip to Rarotonga! Vicki and Alan have created a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere for their guests, and we were taken aback by their thoughtfulness. The luxury safari tent had everything we needed, and both Vicki and Alan provided great guidance on how to make the most of our time on the island. Alan’s breakfasts were also amazing, and the cherry on top of our stay! We can’t wait to come back!

Pros:

Ikurangi Is such a great way to not only stay on Raro, but fully experience the local culture of the island. The resort is in a peaceful neighborhood but still close enough to hear the ocean. The pool is at the right temperature and each day we were treated to a different breakfast with locally sourced food and the portions were plenty large.
Our accommodation were clean and comfortable and you never felt any of the world around you. This is a great way to experience Rarotonga.
