Good location, cool hotel, but the setup is a bit weird. Not right for everyone.
Pros:

The vibe is cool. the rooms are large. the location is good.

Cons:

First, no lobby! we learned at checkout about something on the 3rd floor. Is that a lobby? No one mentioned anything to us at checkin. There is literally not a single chair in the lobby. Second, one of our rooms had the bathroom when you first enter, as in, you enter through the bathroom. That is totally unacceptable if you and your partner or family member come in and out at different times. How do you ever know it's safe to come into the room? I would honestly never book again unless I was absolutely sure I had the other kind of room where the bathroom is set of (at least by a curtain, which is barely acceptable).

Pros:

全体的にきれいでよかったです。
立地も駅近でした。

Cons:

トイレの間仕切りがなく、カーテン間仕切りの部屋でした。2人以上だと結構気をつかうのと、誰も人がいないのにトイレの蓋が常時自動開閉していた。あと廊下が寒すぎました。

Would stay there again in a heartbeat, but would book a room with a balcony
Pros:

The hotel was very quaint and clean, with a 70s interior design look, mustard chairs and wood covered walls, so close to many things and Tainan may have been the most charming city i have visited in my life, vey low key cool and just so much to see and do and the people are tremendously warm and polite.

Cons:

No much i didn’t like

Unique Hotel
Pros:

The thing that stands out the most about Proverbs is its uniqueness. This is not your cookie cutter hotel. The hotel is an industrial style building in a vibrant neighbourhood. The hotel is just steps from shops, restaurants, and the metro.
The halls of the Proverb are a bit dark. And it is a bit odd to open the door to your room and walk straight into the bathroom. But the rooms themselves are quite large and comfortable. You do not hear the street noise. Supposedly construction was going on in the building next door while we were there but we did not hear it. We found the bed to be a bit hard for our tastes.
Breakfast is ordered from a set menu. The food was very good .We especially enjoyed their unique take on a croque monsieur. At certain times the wait staff was overrun The bar area is not to be missed. Not only was the bar a cozy place to unwind after a day of sightseeing, but the signature cocktails were an absolute delight. The cocktails were innovative in presentation and taste. They really were the highlights of our stay.

A word of CAUTION
Pros:

A word of CAUTION! ⚠️ I tried to book room for family of four via Proverb’s online booking site, what happened next was text book example of how to not treat customers:

1. As I received no confirmation (site was not loading) I assumed booking did not go through. Note that I also checked junk mail.
2. I emailed Proverb and sought to book, and they responded: “Please kindly note that each of our rooms can accommodate a maximum of two guests. If you are planning to stay with four guests, we would recommend reserving two separate rooms.”
3. I declined as I did not want to book room, and booked another hotel.
4. A few days ahead of our trip I received a “welcome email” indicating that I had a reservation. I immediately responded to say that I had not booked.
5. Upon which Proverb claimed that a) I had a booking through their site b) they had never indicated we could not stay four people in one room c) they would charge me for not showing up.

As I was unable to rebook (we really wanted to stay at Proverbs) I ended up with two bills and an ongoing dialogue with Thai tourist authorities. I love Taiwan, but this is no way to treat customers.

3 nights in DaAn
Pros:

Location is phenomenal. On a quiet side street close in a nice neighborhood close to MRT station. 3 good nights at this small and quaint boutique hotel in DaAn. Rooms were clean, nice and big with good noise insulation. Even had a small balcony. Strange arrangement as you walk directly into the bathroom. Front desk super friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good, but is a set menu so you may want more variation when staying more nights. Hotel and restaurant was very cold so bring a fleece for indoor use. I would recommend to increase the temp a bit. We would likely come again.

Good location, little else to recommend
Pros:

Taiwan is a destination built on convenience and practicality - qualities that savvy travelers come here expecting to find reflected in their accommodations too. Unfortunately, this hotel delivers on neither front, and at US$400 per night, that’s a hard pill to swallow.
Let’s start with the basics. The breakfast is underwhelming for a property at this price point - uninspired and forgettable. The rooms are awkwardly designed, with see-through bathroom walls that sacrifice privacy for a questionable aesthetic choice, and a layout that wastes usable space in ways that will frustrate anyone spending more than a night. The brass and copper decor throughout feels dated and oddly heavy-handed, more confusion than character.
For a hotel charging premium rates, the absence of a gym is simply unacceptable. Business and leisure travelers alike expect fitness facilities at this tier - its omission is a glaring gap. The lobby compounds the disappointment: cramped and uninviting, it sets the wrong tone from the moment you arrive. Staff interactions didn’t help either - unhelpful would be the polite word for it.
The one genuine bright spot is location, which is genuinely convenient for getting around the city.
If you’re planning a trip to Taiwan and weighing your options, I’d strongly recommend putting your accommodation budget elsewhere. There are hotels in this city that actually deliver the comfort, thoughtfulness, and service that $400 a night should guarantee - this isn’t one of them

Hotel Proverbs - a perfect weekend in Taipei
Pros:

I stayed at Hotel Proverbs in Taipei for the first time and it is an absolute gem.

It is a quintessential boutique hotel beautifully decorated in warm, earthy tones exuding character. The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished by an interior designer to give them real character. Woods, leathers, copper accents in the bedroom make it feel luxurious and homey at the same time, with a huge bathroom and a massive soaking tub for the perfect bath to end a long day exploring the joys of Taipei. Pure luxury and charm.

The location in swanky Da’an district is perfect. Surrounded by Taipei’s classic little lanes full of coffee shops, unique restaurants, hip bars, it is a treat to walk out the front door and just follow your nose a few steps to find the best eats in Taipei. It is a five minute walk to the metro and the trendy Mitsukoshi shopping mall. There is an egg tart store a block away that you absolutely must try. If you arrive late at night after most restaurants close, there is beef noodle restaurant around the corner open very late offering you the most classic Taiwanese comfort food.

The hotel service is so personalised, not at all like big corporate hotels. You are greeted by name on arrival, and someone is always ready to hold the door wide open for you when you come or go with a wide smile. The concierge and front desk are super nice and very helpful if you have any questions or want advice.

Complementary soft drinks and snacks in the minibar are a nice touch, too.

Breakfast is a real treat. The breakfast captain Linda is super cheerful, very attentive, starts your day off with a big smile. Breakfast is made to order, very quick, elegant and delicious. Taiwan fresh-squeezed orange juice is so sweet and unlike any orange juice you have ever tried before. The French toast is memorable - crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. It tastes like a pillowy egg tart. The warm croissant accompanying breakfast is also delightful.

The bar on the 3rd floor is old-school classic. The bartenders are professional mixologists in white jackets. The cocktails are elaborate and the menu extensive. Service is attentive. The decor matches the rooms, warm and earthy, leather, patina on the copper and tin. Soft jazz tickles the ear. It’s the sort of bar you feel you should dress up for (but don’t worry, they don’t have a dress code that I could discern). Trendy but discerning youngsters in expensive black t-shirts are clearly at home. The outside balcony is a haven for smokers.

The steakhouse in the hotel is a Taipei landmark, called “L’Idiot”. You are a fool not to try it.

If you were not a literature major, the name “L’Idiot” refers to a book by Dostoyevsky about a good-hearted prince who wants to spread kindness in a cruel world. The restaurant with the same name spreads kindness and immaculate flavours.

The five-course set menu for four featuring a perfectly grilled sirloin is sublime. It is a real bargain too.

My family and I had a wonderful long weekend in Taipei and Hotel Proverbs made it absolutely perfect. I’ll definitely come back.
