Udaan Nirvana Resort, Darjeeling

Great view of the city, delicious food and very supportive, helpful and understanding staff, a special mention to Ms. Subashna. Hotel is located near the mall market, convenient for strolling and shopping.

Had a great time with family. The resort was great…we stayed in the family room…the view was amazing….staff behaviour was very nice and they were very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel.

The resort is only a five minute walk from Mall yet it's very peaceful. The place was calm and serene. The room that we stayed in (502) was quite spatial but it needs some maintanence. The ambience and cleanliness were at par throughout the resort.
The staff were very co-operative, our special thanks to Dorjey T Bhutia, Anisha, Prem, Nitesh, Akash and Subhasna.

Me and my wife stayed in Udaan Nirvana Resort for 2 nights during our Darjeeling-Gangtok-Pelling tour. The hotel's location is great as it is located on a slip road just around 200 metres from the Mall road, which meant that we could go out anytime when we wanted. We had booked a room with a balcony that had a great valley view. We got the room right behind the reception area and though we wanted it to be changed fearing noise on the reception, we could not get a room due to all the rooms being booked. Nonetheless, we did not face any problem or noise issue due to that. The size of the bathroom is smaller that what we expected considering the size of the room, but it is manageable. But there is constant bad odour in the bathroom for which you have to call the staff again and again to spray an air freshener. Also, the hotel does not have a boiler system for water heating and there is only a geyser in the bathroom for that, which meant that only 1 person could take a bath, and then the other person had to wait for half an hour for the water to get heated. The room's size was good and it was clean with a great view of the mountains. The staff at the hotel was very cooperative. We somewhat found the pricing of the room to be on the higher side but the close proximity of the property with Mall road makes it worth. There were many options in the breakfast and all of them were very delicious. Overall, if we overlook some minor negatives, we had a good stay here and we would surely consider it again.

We took a room with Lawn and Mountain view. Excellent stay with wonderful and tasty food. Only drawback is , it is not accessible by car, need to walk 500m from the drop point near Mall road. Hotel staff help us carry the luggages.

Good ambience, property looks beautiful both inside and outside.

The hotel has a well decorated garden which is nice place to relax and spend leisure time.

I think it is the best property in Darjeeling town, just 2 min walking distance from mall. The wonderful scenic view from this property is the main attraction. Very clean and specious room with a beautiful restaurent, provides pure delicious vegetarian food. Stuffs are also very cooperative and experienced specially Mr Dorjey T Bhutia. The entire atmosphere of this resort is really Top graded. Really value for money.

Amazing hotel next to the Mall road in Darjeeling offering amazing views of the hills & the city through the balcony.
Best part was the Grains restaurant & its amazing staff, Saurav attended us & recommended the tefu/big bao buns, momos & the delicious thukpa prepared by chef Gobind. We all absolutely loved it so, kudos to Saurav for recommending it & Chef Gobind for the lovely food.

Stayed: 6 Nights (5th Dec'25 to 11th Dec'25).
Room Types: Attic Room (4 nights) + Lawn Room with View (2 nights).
Travelled with: Family + 2.5-year-old child.

Udaan Nirvana turned out to be one of those rare stays where human warmth matters as much as the property itself.

We stayed here for a total of 6 nights, initially 4 nights in their top Attic Room (with the biggest balcony in the property), and later extended by 2 more nights when my wife decided to stay back in Darjeeling. Despite the hotel being almost sold out, the central Udaan reservation desk ensured a smooth extension, which deserves special mention.

🌄 Location, Views & Ambience

The Green House / lawn area is beautifully maintained with panoramic valley views and kids play area and lots of seating as well as clicking options for adults.

Sunrise cloud colours are magical, and on clear days we could clearly see the Kanchenjunga range (not just the peak, but the entire range).

The overall ambience is calm, scenic, and very family-friendly.

🛏 Rooms & Heating (Balanced & Honest)

The Attic Room is spacious, charming, and comes with a large private balcony -perfect for morning tea and views.

However, the room’s old electrical wiring caused MCB tripping, which meant an oil-filled radiator couldn’t be used, even though the hotel had several available.

The team instead provided a medium-sized blower heater. Importantly, since the issue couldn’t be permanently fixed, the hotel waived off all heater charges for 4 nights (₹300/night), a very fair and professional gesture.

Later, when we extended our stay:

Aritra Das from the central reservation desk proactively arranged a good lawn-view room, even during a near sold-out period.

This room came with a complimentary blower heater, which again showed thoughtful service recovery.

🍳 Food Experience

Breakfast buffet (pure veg) was consistently good and well-managed.

We also dined at their Grains restaurant (à la carte), while the quality was fine, it felt overpriced for purely vegetarian food, especially for those with non-veg preferences like us. That said, many guests seemed to enjoy it, so this may simply be a personal taste preference, not a quality issue.

Highlights we genuinely loved:

Shahi Tukda – excellent.
Club Sandwich – surprisingly good.

👨‍👩‍👧 Service & Staff – The Real Strength

This is where Udaan Nirvana truly shines.
Every single staff member, from reception to restaurant to security was:

Smiling
Genuinely caring

They were especially loving and playful with our 2.5-year-old daughter, which made the stay emotionally comfortable for us as parents. Another thing worth mentioning is that during checkout I had to clear bills which is a standard procedure, but I had forgotten by Card at home and physical card wasn't available with me, so I requested the guy at reception whose name I'm not sure maybe it was Dorjey Bhutia. Anyways, I requested him to arrange some online method so that I could pay using picture of the card I had in my phone and he did it fantastically sending payment links on my email ID I clicked on the link and cleared the bill online without need for caring the card physically.

❌ What Didn’t Work (Still Mentioned Honestly)

The hotel could not arrange a candle-light dinner in the Green House / lawn area, which was a bit disappointing.
Electrical limitations in older rooms could be improved for modern heating solutions.
From Mall Road it's like 350 metres downward and climbing back could be challenging for elderly person, however they have wheelchair arrangement as well and trolley for carrying luggage. And if you are arriving from NJP or IXB your cab/car will drop you at Bhanu Bhawan from where first you will have to walk to Mall Raod which is about 200 metres and then further 350 metres downwards to the property. All these wasn't problem for us being a Gym person, but worth mentioning for other looking for information.

Tips
Carry a torch for night time up and down towards Mall Road, not mandatory but helpful. Otherwise, every corner of property is well lit 24x7.

✅ Final Verdict

While I initially thought of rating this property 3.5 stars due to a few limitations, the overall experience, fairness, staff behaviour, child-friendly nature, views, and service recovery genuinely justify a full 5-star rating.

This is not a luxury hotel, but it is a warm, honest, people-centric place and that matters more than perfection.

Highly recommended for:

Families with kids.
Guests who value service and warmth.
Scenic stays with peaceful views.
Longer Darjeeling stays.

Would happily return.

We stayed at Udaan Nirvana, Darjeeling for 3 nights, and it was a truly pleasant and memorable experience. The hotel offers a calm and comfortable atmosphere with beautiful views, making it a perfect place to relax while exploring Darjeeling.

The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained, and the overall hygiene was excellent. The food was tasty and freshly prepared, with good variety and quality.

A special mention to Anisha, Dorjey T Bhutia, and Prem for their outstanding hospitality. They were extremely courteous, helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile, which made our stay even more comfortable and stress-free. Their professionalism and warmth really stood out.

Overall, the service, cleanliness, location, and staff behavior exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend Udaan Nirvana to anyone visiting Darjeeling and would definitely love to stay here again in the future.

Location is very good close to mall road. Other tourist places are nearby that is a plus point.Room service was also good and the restraunt too.

This hotel is not only named nirvana but it also feels like nirvana the background music in morning just gives peace and the beauty you can see from the balcony is unexplainable.
And the most important part is the staff they lights the hotel with there hospitality special thanks to Ms Anisha ,Dorjey,Prem ,Akash and Ankit for there warm hospitality
Will surely visit this hotel again .....
