Pros:

The common areas and exterior are extremely charming. This is the appeal and we enjoyed the stay. Rooms very basic but beds were comfortable

Cons:

The charm ends when you enter your room. Very tired and basic. It was sad to see and hard not to be disappointed from the exterior. Bathrooms and space could be improved to replicate the charm of the building. Price was affordable but compared with other hotels in SriLanka, would be better value to stay elsewhere

Great location.
Pros:

The location is excellent

Lots of good food on offer in the restaurant

Cons:

It is a bit run down because its old colonial but the cleaning staff kept it as clean as possible. Just don't expect perfect.

Colonial era Elegance in Kandy
Pros:

We loved the old colonial charm of the hotel and were thrilled with our room upgrade to a suite overlooking the lake. The pool was lovely and the restaurant buffet was fantastic.

Great location, would start again.
Pros:

The food and service was fabulous, we highly recommend this hotel. Rooms are spacious, clean and lovely. The pool is sensational, though the outdoor seating is old and breaking down.

Historical hotel in prime Kandy location
Pros:

Wonderful historical hotel in an excellent location, right on the lake and opposite the entry to the temple of the tooth. So many years of history in the hotel, very well preserved, but not modernised to the point that it became a very expensive place to stay. It reminded me of Raffles in Singapore, without the expensive tariff. I had a huge room with a cast iron balcony overlooking the lake. These outer rooms can be noisy, but I was prepared for that and chose it for the view. Hotel staff were very helpful and kind. The hotel restaurant was impressive and served a good range of food, but is not airconditioned, making it difficult in the heat. It is quite formal, but there are also other food and drink choices around the hotel, and a lovely museum/cafe/bar facing onto the swimming pool and hidden garden at the rear.

Cons:

The shower was over a bath, but it was a shallow bath and a grab rail was provided, so it was relatively easy to access. this hotel is very spread out, so if you do not want to walk far to get to your room, ask for a room closer to the wonderful old lift.
