The Queen's Hotel is a charming step back in time, with a fantastic central location that's ideal for sightseeing. The colonial atmosphere and history are truly special. That said, if you're traveling with a 4 month-old, I'd highly recommend requesting a quiet room away from street noise we did, and were kindly upgraded to a soundproof room, which made a huge difference. Breakfast was enjoyable, and the chicken curry was a real highlight it reminded me of my grandmother's cooking back in Kandy Family house . Overall, it's a wonderful stay for history lovers, just go in with realistic expectations about the facilities and be sure to ask for a quiet room if you need peace and quiet.
Nothing
The location was very convenient. And we appreciated the staff which were kind and complimentary parking and valet were great.
There was zero hot water even after we let the shower run for 10 minutes. The shower handle did not show what side is hot and what is cold it fell off and was never replaced. There is no way to call the reception from your room because the phone has no number list or button identification; 1,0,9,7 which were our guesses did not work so we had to take down our own bags even though staff were kind and we would have love to tip them for helping. The wifi had a horrible connection all stay. The power cut off approximately 6 times. In the morning from our bathroom you could hear the breakfast room music as if it were in our room. The windows were street facing with zero insulation so street noises all night. The mattresses on the beds were so old and poor quality, the springs were worn out, when you moved it creeked and you pretty much felt like you were sleeping on the bed frame….they have been used past their lifespan and are in need of replacing. The bathroom is vintage, which is fine, but the issue is that the upkeep and cleanliness is an afterthought, they neglect to redo caulking, tiles loose, grout all over and not cleaned up after applying, wood furniture chipped and cracked, walls dirty and scratched/scraped, Toilet was loose no one bothered to screwed it down. Tiles not cleaned and sticky along the tub walls, stained porcelain basins, Shower curtain was stained yellow needs to be replaced, should buy one that can be washed regularly.
And this was the most expensive hotel in a 2 week vacation….others for half the price were so much better regardless of their simplicity other owners any managers cared more about the guest experience and understood that upkeep is required and expected of a room you wish to charge 120++USD a night.
As usual, the location is prime. As a return guest, I must say Queens is a place I step into just to step back in time. I love the place. Staff is really nice and very helpful.
The place needs a makeover really badly. The building has started to deteriorate a while ago. Some serious maintenance is in need.
The location is excellent, with Kandy Lake and the Temple of the Tooth just opposite the hotel, making it very convenient for sightseeing.
This is a beautiful heritage property with a unique charm and character. However, if you prefer modern-style hotels with contemporary facilities and design, this may not be the right choice for you. The breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of options to suit different tastes. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, especially for those who appreciate history, culture, and traditional hospitality.
Clean prime location lake view
Great Location, large room, awesome breakfast. Staff very welcoming.
A little noisy early morning with traffic but the location to everything is worth it.
This hotel has a long history and is itself a landmark, which makes the stay feel quite special. We arrived earlier than the standard check-in time, and the front desk kindly arranged an early check-in so we could rest after our journey.
The room was spacious, comfortable, and very bright thanks to excellent natural light. The location is outstanding, directly opposite the famous Temple of the Tooth Relic, making it extremely convenient for sightseeing. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout our stay. On the day we arrived (a Sunday when the post office was closed), the hotel manager even thoughtfully provided us with complimentary postcards, which was a very nice gesture. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of options, which we appreciated.
The only downside was that the elevator was not very convenient to use, so we had to take the stairs with our luggage.
Great value for money, nice pool and what a location, friendly staff
I’d really like western style coffee available
Ubicación ideal para visitar Kandy, edificio histórico con encanto, personal muy atento y servicial. Desayuno excelente, habitación grande, vaya de lujo.
