House in the Castle

Der Aufenthalt in Monemvasia war an sich schon etwas Magisches.
Sobald man die Festung betritt, fühlt man sich in eine längst vergangene Welt versetzt.

Die Besitzerin der Unterkunft schickte uns vorab eine Nachricht mit genauen Anweisungen zur Anreise und empfing uns persönlich am Tor der Festung. Dort hatte sie einen Träger organisiert, der unser Gepäck bis zum Haus brachte – ein echter Luxus, denn die engen Gassen wären mit Koffern kaum zu bewältigen gewesen.

Die Gastgeberin war unglaublich herzlich, fast wie ein Familienmitglied. Während wir gemeinsam zum Haus gingen, gab sie uns eine wunderbare Einführung in die Geschichte und das Leben von Monemvasia. Auch beim Check-out kümmerte sie sich um alles.

Das Haus selbst ist sehr schön, mit einer großen Terrasse und einem traumhaften Blick auf das Meer. Es ist jedoch ein kleines Haus, in dem jeder Winkel optimal genutzt wird – ohne großen Luxus. Das Bad ist sehr klein, ebenso die Treppe zum Schlafzimmer. Wir waren etwas überrascht, dass wir das Bett selbst beziehen mussten.

Aber man darf hier kein Fünf-Sterne-Hotel erwarten – Monemvasia ist ein Ort, der sich seit Jahrhunderten kaum verändert hat. Und genau das macht seinen Zauber aus.

Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis, das wir noch lange in Erinnerung behalten werden.

Maison située dans la magnifique cité de Monemvasia, au bout de la rue, un peu à l’écart de la ferveur de la ville. La vue depuis la terrasse est magique le matin, au lever du soleil. La maison est très confortable, les sœurs propriétaires sont super sympas avec des conseils pour visiter la région, on ne peut qu’être ravi de ce séjour. C’était top.

A great place to stay in the castle!

The apartment is beautiful, well equipped, bed is comfortable and terrace is large, with a view beyond words. What a fantastic stay! The host is extremely welcoming and a definition of great hospitality. Highly recommend!

Excellent location and service of the owners regarding transportation of luggage from the town gate to the house and fruit, vine and water as welcome.

Amazing overall in every aspect! The location was great, close to shops and restaurants but at the same time peaceful and quiet. The views to the sea and the castle were unhindered and magnificent!
The owners welcomed us in the property and helped us with our luggage. There were plentiful welcoming fruits and sweets and a bottle of local wine!!!
The property was spotlessly clean with all possible amenities provided. Everything was brand new but at the same time lots of old features were maintained keeping all the local character! It was like living in Byzantine and Venetian times with all possible modern comforts provided!

Quite possibly the best place I've ever stayed.

Our family of 10 spent 2 weeks in Greece and we loved Monemvasia--so much fun roaming all the little passageways and trying the great restaurants. The House in the Castle rooms were charming and the owner was fantastic.

Very roomy on three floors with two patios facing the ocean with incredible views! Located inside the castle walls making it a very unique charming place to stay, We loved staying here and highly recommend!

This place is fantastic. Xrisoula (the owner) makes you really feel welcome and happy from the first moment. We stayed in the Seahorse and love it. The decoration, the rooms, the bed everything is very Nice. Fresh fruits, nespresso and ice creams everything was there. We really recommend this place and Will be back one day!

Great hotel and highly attentive staff. Room was beautiful and extremely clean, outfitted with all the amenities you would expect. Enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the hotel.

We called this our 'Boat house'. It was a small apartment but well furnished with a view that can't be beat! The staff was very helpful and we would stay here again.

This was my best hotel stay and best host ever!
We stayed with our friends for 5 nights and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Hotel owner waited for us personally, helped us with the luggage, and showed us around the town and hotel. We had welcome package waiting for us in the room.
Hotel is new, with “home away from home” feel, new furniture, nicely equipped kitchen, excellent coffee machine (Nespresso) with good supply of coffee pods, big fridge, perfect soft mattresses, and good and quiet air-conditioning system
Rooms are cleaned regularly and perfectly.
The whole city (actually big castle) is magical network of narrow streets and passages, beautiful path around the island, incredible ruins of the upper town, and beautiful church on the cliff (photos below). There is no traffic in the city (not even bikes), an extremely quiet and peaceful atmosphere, so your sleep can be disturbed only by the sound of the crashing waves.
If you ever wanted to have a medieval experience with 21st century luxury,
it is the place for you. We do plan to come again!

Πολύ άνετοι χώροι, πλήρως εξοπλισμένο σπίτι, ιδιαίτερα φιλόξενη η οικοδέσποινα (νιωθαμε κυριολεκτικά σαν στο σπίτι μας). Το σημείο ήταν τελειο με μαγευτικη θεα στη θάλασσα και στο υπόλοιπο κάστρο. Το συνιστούμε ανεπιφύλακτα κ με πρώτη ευκαιρία θα το επισκεφτούμε ξανά.
