I recently visited The Grand Kandyan Hotel for a friend’s wedding and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. I first accompanied my friend to the hotel to check and confirm arrangements, and later attended the wedding and stayed overnight as well.

The service throughout was truly top-notch—every staff member was warm, attentive, and professional. The food was excellent, with great variety and quality, especially during the wedding function.

The rooms were beautifully designed, modern, and very comfortable, with all the amenities you would expect for a relaxing stay. Everything about the hotel—from the ambiance to the hospitality—made the experience memorable.
They are very clean and great value for money.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kandy, and I would happily stay here again in the future.

Our stay at The Grand Kandyan Hotel was outstanding from the very moment we arrived. The check-in process was smooth, warm, and welcoming, setting the tone for what became a genuinely memorable experience.

The staff deserve special appreciation. Every team member we encountered was courteous, attentive, and professional, always greeting us with a smile and a genuine desire to help. Their hospitality felt sincere and effortless, making us feel valued throughout our stay.

The food was another highlight. Each meal was delicious, well presented, and full of flavour, with an impressive variety to suit different tastes. The service at the restaurant was equally excellent, prompt, polite, and attentive without being intrusive.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights and were on a half board basis.
The good:

The staff are really friendly and helpful, they make the experience.
The views from the rooftop are excellent and you can see for miles.
The food was pretty good and we had no complaints about breakfast or dinner.
The rooftop bar was good for lunch and drinks after dinner - again really friendly staff.

To be improved:
The rooms are dated and bit shabby.
Air con didn’t work and the room was really hot.
The room electronics were through a weird system which didn’t really work - light switches would be much better.
Some of the furniture was really impractical in the rooms and was massive - like the glass coffee table that was very sharp.
The dining room needed some updating and a deep clean - the windows and walls were pretty dirty.

At some point this hotel must have been state of the art, but that time was a while ago. We had a decent stay here but it is certainly not 5 star and needs a lot of investment to bring it up to the standards people would expect these days.

I had a fantastic stay here. The staff is amazing, the accommodations are lovely, and the city is extraordinary. A special thank you to Miss Kosala and team for amazing customer service!

This is such a special place; we stayed for 10 nights and loved every minute we were there. The hotel is lovely, service is phenomenal and the food is fantastic.

The hotel is just far enough out of Kandy to be away from the busy centre but near enough that it is a short Tuk Tuk ride, you could walk it but we never did due to our love of Tuk Tuk journeys.

Our room was large with plenty of space and a good sized balcony with a wonderful view. The bathroom had both a bath and separate shower, the beds were really comfy and housekeeping attended every day.

The restaurant was never too busy and there was always plenty of choice. Western style dishes were available but we went for the curry options at breakfast and evening meal, we were halfboard. If you had a question about any of the dishes, there was always a member of staff, often one of the chefs, around to answer it. We ate vegetarian while we were there and were never short of choice, or food.

The service at this hotel was exceptional, we were made to feel so welcome and special by everyone we interacted with.

This review is to leave a very strong compliment for one of the staff members at Grand Kandyan. Mr Hilary in the restaurant gave us excellent service above and beyond our expectation. He was very attentive to our family group, expertly anticipating our wants and proactively serving for our elderly father. We were very impressed with Mr Hilary and cannot praise him enough - he is a wonderful ambassador for the Grand Kandyan
