Location
Great friendly staff and the breakfast is good
The coffee with the breakfast was disgusting sorry to say would be perfect if u had better coffee just tasted like hot water
Horrific incident in at 3am when people (a "courting couple" as we were told) who had not previously booked were given a room (ours) in the middle of the night. They tried to get into our room when they had been given a key by a member of staff. Staff are pleasant but very overworked but this is not safe or acceptable. The member of staff we spoke to said "you're lucky it could have been much worse if they had been an angry drunk", well thanks for that!
Was promised a deputy manager would ring us to apologise...of course they did not. Room is clean but threadbare with carpets bald in places and bathroom door so thin it wobbles when you try to open it (after it jams if you lock it). They advertise the football on TNT but the hotel does not actually have TNT anymore and half of the beer pumps are for show only as they no longer sell the full range. I could go on but you get the drift. Simply I would not ever go again for fear for my safety.
close to y work the next day
the decor has been attempted to be redecorated,. felt old and tried.
Best bit was free parking and it being close to where we needed to go.
Beds was that uncomfortable didn't get good sleep and woke up aching in places you shouldn't.
Was water stains all over the ceiling and wallpaper peeling in places in main room.
Bathroom was not clean and very scruffy with marks on towels etc
Breakfast was a joke.
White stuff floating in the orange and apple juice. Food was either cremated or floating in grease.
The Grand Hotel is beautifully preserved and many features clearly date back from 1899. We were there for the Hartlepool match and the hotel was within walking distance of the stadium. Sandra at reception was the perfect host and our room was super comfy and warm. The bath was amazing with piping hot water into a deep tub. The breakfast was delicious with a full English including black pudding!
The 1899 bar TV and the room TV didn't show the live football matches and we couldn't find BBC, ITV, C4 channels etc.
Clean, reception staff lovely, perfect location for what we needed (my son had a sports event close by)
Its no frills but clean , safe and has all you need for a short stay. The ONLY thing that let it down was the breakfast. The pastries were cremated, the Apple and Orange juice had bits floating in it , and it wasnt fruit!!! The coffee was awful. No butter anywhere for toast. What a shame
Lovely bedroom, cozy and spacious. Elevator in hotel as well and free wi-fi.
Very noisy, you could hear the drunks outside, sometimes slamming into doors making your windows shake, and you can hear people talking through rooms. Hot water for the bath does not get hot, lukewarm at best. Shower was hot though.
Clean, quiet, central, very attentive manager who clearly tries very hard to make the hotel as good as it can be. The hotel is a bit dated but pleasant.
I only had toast as the cooked breakfast did not look fresh as it was under a counter heater and I had no idea for how long.
Everything. The website pictures look a whole lot better than real life. Room smelt of smoke, burn marks in the carpet and no toilet roll in the room. I rang to check my reservation whilst travelling up to be told my stay was cancelled as there had been a glitch in the booking system and I had to pay more if I wanted to stay. I had not been contacted or informed! Pretty poor to say the least.
Restaurant in the basement was good quality.
The room was unheated and the radiators didn't work for the duration of the stay.
Location and quiet relaxing atmophere, nice bar and good indian restaurant.
Rooms could be modernised a bit and the could be warmer. No shower is a big disapointment, had to use taps and no shower curtain meaning water everywhere. Pretty ridiculous in the day and age.
Hotel locked when we arrived, cleaner let us in. Couldn't check in until 4pm,only person available was a caretaker, no receptionist, room was cold, with 3 quarter bed not double, paid for bed and breakfast but told we had to pay £10 each for breakfast on top, no private parking as stated, felt uncomfortable and unsafe, so left soon after, went to reception but nobody there, left key card and left. Later in day was charged £43 , disgraceful!!!
