Very rude and entitled staff
Pros:

It’s very comfortable

Cons:

We booked this hotel specifically because it had a pool, and according to the hotel's website, children under 16 must leave the leisure facilities after 6pm. My son is 16, so we expected he would be able to use the facilities without any issues.
Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. On our first night, the pool was closed. On the second night, the leisure manager told my son he had to leave the pool because he was under 18. This directly contradicted both the information on the website and the fact that he had been allowed to use the other leisure facilities after 6pm the previous evening.
When I questioned the policy, staff were unable to show me anything online stating that the age limit was 18. Rather than trying to resolve the issue, the duty manager was dismissive and rudely said, "All complaints come to me anyway," when I explained I would be making a complaint. As the pool was the sole reason we chose this hotel, this was incredibly frustrating. I've even included a photo of the hotel's own information stating that the restriction applies to those under 16.
It's such a shame because the hotel itself is lovely. The rooms are beautiful, the facilities (when we were actually allowed to use them) are excellent, and our evening meal was one of the nicest we've had in a long time. Breakfast wasn't quite as impressive, although there was plenty of choice.
Overall, this could have been a fantastic stay, but inconsistent policies and poor customer service left us feeling very disappointed. I don't mind rules when they're clear and applied consistently, but that simply wasn't the case here.

Pros:

Beautiful building, lovely breakfast, spacious room

Cons:

Room layout/facilities weren't laid out particularly effectively. Not enough plug sockets and the ones that were there were in awkward spaces. You had to put the kettle on the floor to boil it, same for the iron, and using things like hairdryers was also difficult.

Locariong good, experience decidely average and poor value for money
Pros:

The location near Eaglescliffe Golf Club

Cons:

I booked a junior suite. The layout of the room was terrible. The small ‘lounge’ area has no window and is literally a waste of space.
The breakfast was terrible. We had to ask the young man who was on duty for a number of things as items had run out and the quality of the produce was very poor.
