Beautiful, quiet little spot on Roatan; great staff, great facilities. We especially loved the dock with comfy recliners and hammocks. The breeze helps with the heat and humidity. Great snorkelling out on the reef as well!
That you couldn't swim right off the beach because the water looked sludgy.
I enjoyed the exclusivity- for me luxury means exclusivity. Quite a calm. It’s a hidden diamond.
Everything was perfect.
Loved everything about Puerta Azul. The property is meticulously maintained, in a peaceful setting and in close proximity to a beautiful stretch of reef. My kids (9 & 12) loved staying here, especially the hours spent swimming off the dock. We stayed 2 weeks and it was hard to leave. Looking forward to our next visit!
An amazing place to be! I loved the cabins where we're could sit on the porch and see the wonderful species of Honduran plants. And frequently geckos crawling around. The cabins were immaculate. Someone showed up every morning to clean. Mostly when we were at the really good included breakfast. If you needed something you could just ask for it. We enjoyed all the meals we ate there. The chefs and the wait staff were great.
You could go on a boat for a snorkeling trip. We did that twice--the boat didn't just drop you off but you had a guide to point out things on the reefs you to you.
Most days we simply walked to the end of pier (through the blue door) and snorkeled from there. The reefs right there were wonderful: really great healthy coral and lots of different kinds of fish. Quiet, relaxing and adventurous.
The concierge was also great: in many places we stayed previously all they wanted to do was sell you something. She was both knowledgeable and helpful.
Because of the atmosphere of the staff, many of the other guests were friendly too.
We'll be back
Relaxing place, super friendly people, good food.
The beach area is super cool with its own reef, it was our favorite place to spend time.
The owners and staff are great.

Another incredible week at Puerta Azul! My kids and I had the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure on our trip. The property is so gorgeous and laid back. My kids (ages 7-11) could enjoy time on the dock and in the water independently since the venue is safe and the water is shallow enough not to worry. The food was incredible. We had amazing chips and guac, the best island rice and steak. Breakfast is included which is a great perk especially with kids. The cabanas feel so tropical but also so clean and comfortable with a/c and a fan. We paddle boarded and swam on site and took a boat ride snorkeling which was a highlight. 10/10 recommend for an awesome and special family trip!
The site is beautiful! Love the long dock and it's blue door! Lazing in the hammocks on the dock was great. Our room was a gorgeous and spacious private cottage, with one bedroom for our adult kids and the other for the parents.
I arrived at Puerta Azul in shoulder-season (late Jan - mid-March, between rainy- and not-) and stayed for a total of 7 blissful weeks! (only interrupted by a gorgeous mountain rainforest adventure on the mainland). .
Whether tucking in for the excitement of a tropical storm over the Caribbean, or luxuriating in a gorgeous sunny day on the beach, with a few puffy clouds and a refreshing breeze, the blue door was a doorway to magic. Every day, when I passed through that door, just around sunrise, that was my mantra: "Let the magic begin." And it always did!
I felt so lucky to experience *both of the types of lodging that Puerta Azul offers: one of their 5 beachfront cabins, and one of their 4 garden (jungle!) casitas (which are equipped with a kitchen!)
Each had its own unique charm - but the unifying feature of everything about Puerta Azul is the thoughtfulness with which *everything* has been designed and executed - for natural beauty, for privacy, for comfort (the softest sheets in the history of the universe, for one small example...), for culinary delight (the whole red snapper was my favorite, though they offer options across the board, from vegan/vegetarian to steak), for help with transportation and recommendations around the island, for the wonderful ! 4-hr reef explorations in the resort's own (very comfortable) touring launch.
The staff are so warm and personable - it's clear that everyone, from the owners, Talia and Antonio, through the amazing manager Sasha, the brilliant kitchen and wait-staff, the hardworking groundskeepers/gardeners - even the night watchman - *everyone* really cares about their guests.
Puerta Azul's magic is in its quiet beauty. The sunrises and sunsets from the end of their dock over the Caribbean. Peaceful, incredible snorkeling, right off the dock, free from the hordes flooding the more well-known hubs of West End and West Bay. Whether I wanted to sunbathe, or read in the shade, there was always a hammock, a beach lounge, a sling-back chair available - all the comforts, none of the crowds. (Also, awesome margaritas!)
And yet it was super-easy to get everywhere I wanted, whether I was in the mood to mix it up a little, or just had some errands to do - someone was always at reception to help with recommendations, reservations, and transport.
If you ever get the chance to visit - do NOT hesitate! (it's actually even *better* than the website's gorgeous photos and videos suggest. Serious.)
The staff were lovely and took such good care of us! We love the restaurant—the food while simple was super fresh and delicious—no need to go elsewhere for dinner. Snorkeling excursions were good and the local reef is fun—being able to go off the dock was nice.
Located in Sandy Bay which is 10 minutes to West End (in town) and 20 from West Bay (beautiful beaches next to larger resorts) with very few reasons to leave. Perfect if you want a quiet peaceful place to stay. This place feels like a home away from home. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming and the long term stay visitors are just as friendly. I never thought I’d say this, but their Dock was Awesome! They provide assistance with fair priced cab services, and boat or snorkeling tours. The rooms have all the modern amenities you could want while still keeping a cozy feel. Wish we had more time here.
We are so happy we found Puerta Azul!
From the moment we were picked up at the airport to the day we were dropped off, everything was seamless. The staff at Puerta Azul truly went above and beyond—more attentive and welcoming than many five-star hotels we’ve stayed in.
The snorkeling right off their dock was fantastic, and the boat tours took us to some incredible spots. If you love being in the water, this place is a dream.
The food was also outstanding—fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared every day.
If you’re looking for a relaxed tropical escape with amazing snorkeling, wonderful food, and a staff that treats you like family, Puerta Azul is a gem. We can’t wait to come back!
5min walk for the puerta azul restaurant in sandy bay. Food was delicious, the staff is very welcoming no taxi needed
We loved every minute of our President's Day Weekend getaway at Puerta Azul. The setting and staff were amazing. Everyone was friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious. We will be back without a doubt.
We had the most wonderful stay at Puerta Azul Boutique Hotel in Roatan. Besides the property being absolutely stunning, everyone who worked there was so welcoming. From the owners, to the kitchen staff, every single person made you feel like you were at home. The food was amazing, I miss the breakfasts. Hanging out on the dock, reading a good book, then jumping into the water for some snorkeling. It was paradise.
Our stay at Puerta Azul was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and genuine smiles from the staff — they went above and beyond to make our trip special. The rooms were beautifully designed, spotless, and incredibly comfortable, with breathtaking ocean views that made waking up each morning a joy.
After lengthy research, my wife and I visited Puerta Azul in Roatan in early January '26 because it isn't in the congested and busier "touristy" areas, and reviews were very positive. They weren't wrong. Although Puerta Azul is tucked in between adjacent properties, the lush, diverse and beautiful foliage serve as effective insulators. The staff, especially Sasha, Noel, Julie, Rose, Jackie, Tanisha and Yami were especially kind, and we quickly became friends. It seems to me that there is a genuine and kind nature to the people we met during our week-long trip. The owners Antonio and Talia were very welcoming, accommodating, informative and kind. The food at Puerta Azul, whether fish, chicken, steak, or vegetables(!) was without exception, excellent. Strategically placed fans in the dining area kept any wayward bugs away, and I only had to use repellent a couple times during our stay. Snorkeling off the end of their pier was very enjoyable with a large, healthy coral reef within swimming distance. A multitude of colorful reef fish were abundant. We went on the 4 hour North Shore snorkeling trip. I felt this was a bit pricey but the reef areas we swam on were beautiful, and the rum punch and snacks on the way back was a nice touch. We also went on the half day island tour, which was enlightening and pleasant, and one of the few times I chose to wear sandals. I think my mind incorrectly filled in the blanks when I thought the rum and chocolate factories meant the production facilities. Instead we visited a rum store and a chocolate store, where we could purchase products they make, not what I consider a factory, but still ok. The Mayan Eden jungle tour was worthwhile. Confession, I don't really like to see animals in cages, but I didn't come away from this visit feeling sorry for the diverse assortment of tropical animals there. They appeared healthy and well cared for. We also visited West End Village, which to me was more appealing than West Bay. There we saw plenty of restaurants, offering both local foods (the baleadas are very good) and other South American fare, as well as decent souvenir shops. Puerta Azul is a solid "10".
We stayed at Boutique Hotel Puerta Azul in November and would definitely recommend this place. We received outstanding service throughout our stay. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and set in a picturesque garden right by the beach, with a long pier leading to the coral reef.
The hotel is located in a calm area, away from the lively, crowded, and noisy tourist spots. We personally didn’t spend much time on the hotel’s beach, as we were busy diving during the day, but we did enjoy using the SUP and kayak, which are free to rent from the hotel.
The food was delicious, and we will truly miss everyone from the staff. The owner is a fantastic person who genuinely cares about his guests. We had some nice conversations with him.
It’s a great place for those who want to stay away from the crowds and truly relax, or for those who rent a car and occasionally go to the center for more options, then return to unwind in the evening and enjoy the peaceful mornings. You really feel close to nature here.
There is also a local bus service nearby, although we didn’t try it, and a small shop within a short walking distance. The hotel guests are not here by coincidence - they choose this place deliberately, which also makes it a wonderful place to meet interesting people.
Everything.
