Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey's Hotel & Bungalows

In July 2024 we wrote a scathing review of Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey's Hotel & Bungalows titled "Bitterly Disappointed".

From the perspective of us being a near-70 yr old retired couple, we have just returned again from Apia after 4 nights at "Aggie's" and this time things have much improved. We managed to get a standard room at the front as requested (not a bungalow as unrequested last time), good elevator service, excellent communication at booking time, efficient hassle-free check-in, good covered car parking, and the staff were as friendly, cheerful and helpful as always. Nice big wall-mounted SmartTV, lovely comfortable Kingsize Bed and pillows, and nice N-E view over the "big fale" toward the mountains.

Some more improvements needed still:

1) Bathroom - shower over bath is never our preference but we managed, however unsafely. The bath was too high to get leg over, its floor very spongy to walk or move on, needed anti-slip rug, shower head assembly loose when grabbing it for support, support bar on wall also loose, and water on the floor in front of vanity after shower unavoidable due to design and size of glass shower partition.

2) Internal access - on this trip we attended a function held in the Sheraton Ballroom "next door" on Level 3. It would have been nice to have had internal access straight across to it from our room. Instead, we needed to take "our" elevator to basement, step out briefly into the humid heat enroute to second elevator, to get back up to the ballroom.

3) Room - landline phone was not working due to the handpiece-to-phone cord missing! A larger fridge would be nicer. Basic cutlery for coffee and tea making and snacking was lacking. The doors of the wooden stand-alone wardrobe standing against the wall were very squeaky and loud when opening and shutting.

4) Food - not sure if the food was catered in for the function in the ballroom or prepared on site, but it was shocking for a hotel of this calibre! The most common Samoan chop suey or "sapasui" dish was pale (vermicelli), stone cold, and the beef in it was so hard and tough to chew. Quite disappointing all 'round.

One last sentiment - We miss the old warmth and charm of the old "Aggies", especially the welcoming decor of the entrance lobby. Would be great to bring its warm wooden decor at least. It can still be Sheraton but with the unmistakable welcoming warmth of Auntie Aggie!

Such a disappointment as a business hotel, and a shameful standard for a Sheraton establishment. Can't state enough how unhelpful management are. I've never had to work so hard for customer attention - emails, phone calls, repeated requests for meeting the general manager - all to no avail. Mind you, I"m a business guest, with many team members bringing this establishment revenue. First and list time staying here. So many better options in Apia that I look forward to trying out for future trips.

We came for lunch, Amazing meal, and such beautiful people! We will be back!

Reviews can put people off from one bad encounter which ruins the entire business. My encounter was AMAZING!
Extremely friendly, helpful, local staff on arrival - Thank you Helena & Grace 🩷 To the caring Restaurant Staff Rosereen, Angela, Daniel, My Best aka Toetu the Supervisor to mention just a few. All restaurant staff were beautiful, all chefs were brilliant - ALL OF THEM. Exceptional Buffet Breakfast, menu with a large range of different cultured dishes. Shout out to the Head Chef ‘ SUKESH’ for his commitment to our Crayfish meal we asked him to cook for us on our stay for dinner. May God bless you all 🙏 Room service was always given when needed, more than expected, thank you Fuatino for your service!! Beautiful scenery in very clean and well looked after room. Buildings age & you must expect wear & tear sometimes - our room was beautiful and perfect for us. No bugs or creatures sighted. Even though we are in Samoa guys lol. For the price we paid for stay for 7days, was worth our money for all areas. We enjoyed peace & quiet with morning & evening swims, while still being in the city.
We were close to everything especially the water front for evening walks.
I would highly recommend only reading my review and advising staff on arrival that Amy from NZ recommended you stay here. As an outsider I was welcomed more than I expected, I really didn’t want to leave. If you’re staying a night, or longer does not alter my review. From our arrival to us leaving, the staff have been amazing. They have been extremely helpful. From the men that stand in the front greeting us to the cleaning team and especially the kitchen team.. The kitchen team I will say are Excellent. Everyone to the kitchen hands to the supervisors. I also would like to mention the head chief. He went beyond on our requests. He catered to our specific requirements. And service with a smile.

An awful place to stay with almost no redeeming features. We were a family of 5 and I had requested 2 rooms close together. The rooms could not have been further apart. Our teenage daughters ended up in the main hotel and the rest of us were placed at the very rear of the hotel in a separate block. It felt like we were in the staff quarters. There was very loud music till later into the evening and we couldn't work out what it was and when we rang it got turned down. It then started early in the morning around 5am and this time when we rang we were told it was the laundry. So the staff were there blasting music right under our room with no care about paying guests! It was ridiculously expensive for such a run down, poorly maintained hotel. The pool was milky and the kids lasted 5 minutes and were grossed out by it. The food was dire. We walked to Paddles up the road for dinner and so glad we did. The breakfast food was so unappealing with cats wandering around.

The look of the front of the hotel gave us hope it would be a lovely place but unfortunately it's a sad blight on the Sheraton brand.

I would never stay again. Thank goodness it was only 1 night.

Had an awesome time at Sheraton, exceeded expectations. A must-stay in Samoa. Perfect space, atmosphere, comfort and customer service.

Wonderful service and welcoming staff. The breakfast service was the highlight of my stay, I would definitely come back in the future!

We had a great stay at this hotel and would happily return. It’s our first time staying at Sheraton in Apia, we usually stayed at Taumeasina resort, but this time we wanted to try a different one. The front desk and the lobby staff are so welcoming. We booked a bungalow, and the one we got was all the way to the back, and it’s quite a walk, and the only problem is my husband had knee problem and he can’t walk too far, so I requested a closer room, and the front desk tried to find one for us because most of the rooms are occupied, and with their hard work and willingness to help us, they made it happen and got us another bungalow. We got to our new bungalow and our first night we couldn’t sleep because the bed frame must have been broken and was never reported, I reported it to the front desk and they were able to fix it right away. The rooms are spacious and cleaned, and that’s the most important thing to me when I’m traveling, I wanted to feel at home and comfortable, and that’s how I felt. Their customer service, I give them 9/10, staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and always greets you with “TALOFA”
The dining room staff are amazing, Toetu and the entire staff did an excellent service. Always making sure the guest are enjoying their breakfast and catered to their needs. The only minor downside is their breakfast menu, and hopefully in the future, they add more options on their breakfast menu.
The highlights of our staying there is when we had our last breakfast, and got us by surprise when the staff surrounded us and started singing a farewell song for us in front of a full house of guests having breakfast. For 2 weeks we stayed there, we never seen them did what they did, and that makes it so special for us.
Overall, excellent value for your money if you’re looking for convenient and comfortable.

We stayed for 5 days and had a blast. Swam in the pool, got drunk at the bar, slept in…that’s what a vacay is supposed to be. All of the above in a convenient location with close proximity to many excursions and adventures in Apia, make this the perfect spot to enjoy Samoa. Special shout out to Rosary in the Feast Restaurant for making our visit such a memorable and enjoyable one!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great hospitality. Comfortable rooms at a good location, close to the city centre. The breakfast buffet had a decent variety of food to cater for different diets.

My sister originally booked two harbor-view rooms and had confirmation of the reservation. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were told those rooms had already been booked by someone else. We were then reassigned to two basic rooms behind the main building (not the bungalows). The rooms themselves were acceptable, but the distance from reception and the parking area was extremely far, especially considering there were no carts available to assist guests with breathing or mobility issues you were expected to walk the entire way.
The only upside to that location was its proximity to the restaurant.
My sister later decided to upgrade us to the bungalows, mainly because they were closer to the parking lot. Unfortunately, that upgrade came with new issues. The bungalows smelled strongly of urine, my room’s shower had no hot water, and the drain was very slow, causing water to pool while showering. The only positives in the room were that the bed and couch were comfortable.
The complimentary breakfast was just okay; the coffee and cappuccinos were really the only saving grace. The staff at the grill were rude and unwelcoming, often giving off a “what do you want?” attitude. To make matters worse, my sister witnessed the hostess scratching herself, apparently assuming no one was watching.
Overall, the hotel layout is very odd, the service was inconsistent, and the experience did not meet expectations especially considering the booking issues and lack of guest accommodations.

All staff and I mean ALL STAFF were very kind and hospitable. I’ll highly recommend you try the special cocktail only from Sam the bartender. Toetu who holds down the fort in the restaurant has been nothing but the best at servitude. Although there were some little mishaps of the false fire alarm, broken cabinetry, the kindness from the staff is something you can’t buy. So grateful and truly blessed by our stay

Sisi in the restaurant absolutely a shining star🥰 Her customer service and care had me looking forward to seeing her at breakfast and disappointed if she wasn't there.

Stayed here for 7 days. Lovely staff and very helpful but what a disappointment. The food choices in the restaurant need updating and changing. Often food on the menu was not available. Choice of wine on the menu in was not available and run out of. People not even staying at the hotel took over the pool area making it not relaxing with screaming kids everywhere. The bath in the room needed a good scrub and housekeeping didn't really do anything everyday except make the bed! This is marketed as 5 stars but most definitely not. I went to the lobby cafe at 4.50, it closed at 5, to be told sorry the staff have gone home already! I understand island time but we are paying for a service so it should be available. This was such a a let down for me. The best moments for me were at Paddles restaurant just a couple of minutes down the road. I would love to take that place home with me! Sheraton you need to do better.

The best part of our stay was the hospitality of the staff. Nothing was ever too much to ask and we were treated with the utmost kindness and professionalism.

Very nice location, excellent customer service, the check in was smooth and beyond my expectations. A lovely lady who took me to my room, she includes all resort information also the most interesting sightseeing of Samoa, Later on I knew her name is Hannah, director of customer service of the hotel, outstanding communication skills with guest, well done.
Breakfast buffet has various options for local and international cuisine, I do like their special coffee with soy milk;
Friday night there is a dance show with fire dance, is absolutely amazing.
Overall is a great place for vacation in Samoa.
