For the third year running, we’ve just returned from another spectacular stay at The Daxer—and honestly, I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Family-run, with the most welcoming atmosphere, it perfectly suits couples, singles, families and groups alike. We’ve booked through Crystal each year and have never been disappointed.
It’s hard to know where to begin, because everything is just so good!
We arrived late in the evening to find a lovely buffet and refreshments thoughtfully laid out for us—a truly warm welcome after a long journey. The next morning, we were up early for lessons and greeted by a beautiful breakfast buffet with a wide selection of cereals, continental options, fresh fruit and hot dishes. The scrambled eggs are absolutely to die for! Add to that a delicious variety of fresh breads and plenty of coffee to set you up for the day.
Evenings are just as enjoyable. You can either help yourself to the buffet or choose from three freshly prepared options—vegetarian, meat or fish—cooked to order and served to your table. We tried a mix of both, and everything was consistently delicious. As someone who is gluten-free, I was especially touched by how accommodating the team were—they really went above and beyond to provide suitable options wherever possible.
In fact, the salad bar alone was so fresh and inviting, I’d have happily eaten from it every night!
The location is ideal too—ski in and out, or just a short 10-minute walk to the lifts once you’re sorted in the heated boot room. Returning from the slopes around 4pm, the homemade cakes, a hot savoury option, and a selection of hot drinks are such a welcome treat. Even better, there was homemade gluten-free cake available too 😋. You can relax at your allocated table or enjoy the cosy little bar.
If you’re looking to unwind further, the hotel spa is simply wonderful. The brand-new pool area offers the most stunning views, with plenty of space to relax, alongside a fantastic selection of saunas. New this year is an adults-only spa area with saunas, steam room and tranquil relaxation spaces—truly five-star facilities with views to match ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Our room (214, an upgraded option) was just perfect, with a private balcony overlooking the lake and mountains. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the décor is beautiful, and everything is kept immaculate throughout your stay. The bathroom was well-equipped too—with a great shower, heated rail, hairdryer, and importantly, a magnifying mirror! On a previous visit, we stayed in a family room, and the large sofa bed was ideal for our son. The free high-speed WiFi was excellent throughout.
But what truly makes The Daxer so special is the people. Every single member of the team—from housekeeping and kitchen staff to bar, reception and waiting staff—contributed to making our stay exceptional. Their warmth, friendliness and genuine willingness to help stood out every day. We were especially impressed by the number of languages spoken—it really reflects their dedication to making every guest feel at home.
A truly wonderful team, and a place we will return to again and again.
Wonderful friendly hotel and top staff.
Just back from a week at hotel Daxter and it was exactly what we needed.
This was our first ever skiing trip and I wanted a hotel that was conveniently located to make things as hassle free as possible.
Hotel Daxter is literally a 3 minute walk from the bottom of the ski lift and ski hire shop, so after a long day of skiing it’s great to only have a short walk back to the hotel.
There’s a great heated boot room with plenty of space for boots and skis/snow boards.
We didn’t arrive at the hotel until late in the evening and were concerned that everything would be closed, but we needn’t have worried as the hotel put on a hot buffet for the late arrivals so the kids had plenty to eat.
From 3-4.30pm the hotel puts on hot drinks and cake for the adults as well as pasta for the kids. Which is a really nice touch when you get back with hungry children (the bar is also open if you need something a bit stronger)
We were half board and my son is a vegetarian so I was a little nervous over the food situation, but there was plenty for him to eat from both the buffet and the evening menu. The only thing is a lot of the buffet is not labelled, so if you have allergies you’d have to ask the staff for the ingredients.
The hotel has a great pool which we spent plenty of time in. There’s also several saunas.
The rooms weren’t the largest but we had everything we needed and pretty much spent all our time on the mountain. Towels, shampoo and shower gel are all provided in the room.
As our first ever family holiday skiing hotel Daxter was exactly what went wanted. Close to the slopes and lifts, warm and welcoming staff, great food and plenty of amenities to keep the kids and adults happy.
We will definitely be coming back!
Plus if you get the Alpin ski pass it gives you access to the local buses which stop right by the hotel and go to all the other local ski areas
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding stay – one of the best Ski hotels we’ve ever experienced
We had a fantastic stay at Gartenhotel Daxer and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it – truly one of the best hotels we’ve stayed in.
The evening dining options were excellent, with a great choice each night. You can either enjoy the buffet or pre-select your main course (meat, fish, or vegetarian), which you conveniently choose each morning at breakfast via a QR code menu and form. The salad starters and soups were outstanding, with plenty of variety and consistently high quality. Afternoon cakes and hot snacks were a real bonus too, including soup and savoury options, a lovely touch after a day on the slopes.
The hotel bar was very reasonably priced with excellent service. A special mention must go to Robert, who looked after us all week, an absolute credit to the hotel and someone who genuinely enhances the guest experience.
Our room was one of the best we’ve had: very spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything you’d expect. We did bring our own travel kettle, which proved useful, but otherwise the room was excellent.
Connie at Reception is brilliant friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to share local tips, which really added to how enjoyable our stay was.
The location is ideal for skiing, with the ski lift only around 200 metres from the hotel. The in-house ski lockers are excellent, although for a small additional fee you can also rent a locker directly at the lift for extra convenience (purchase from Brundl Sports).
Overall, this is an outstanding hotel with fantastic food, great staff, excellent facilities, and a superb location. A five-star recommendation all round
We had a wonderful seven-night stay at this hotel—it was fantastic in every way. We stayed as a group of six adults and two children and found it perfect for our needs. The location was excellent, with the ski lift less than a five-minute walk from the hotel, and it was also very convenient for buses into town.
The hotel itself was traditional and spotlessly clean, with friendly and welcoming staff. The food was amazing, and we really enjoyed the afternoon snacks and the drinks package. The pool and family-friendly spa were fantastic after a long day of skiing. We can’t wait to return.
Fantastic hotel, 500 yards from the ski slope. The owner and the staff were super- efficient and friendly, food was great with loads of choice and beautifully prepared. I was in room 156 overlooking the valley; stunning views and the room was always warm, as was the shower. There is a huge swimming pool, 3 saunas, a steam room and a well equipped gym. There is a lift to all floors.
Special mention to one member of staff, Robert, who on his day off took me and another guest up the mountain to show us places to ski that were away from the main slopes, so were quiet and fantastic to ski. He even videoed us.
We stayed at the hotel for a week and would like to thank all of the wait staff, who were incredibly friendly and welcoming and truly made our stay special. A special mention goes to Robert, who was extremely attentive, professional, and always made us feel well looked after.
The food was cooked well and nicely presented, although we did feel the ingredients could have been a little fresher.
The swimming pool, steam room, and sauna were fabulous and very enjoyable overall. However, as the week went on the pool became noticeably colder, and by Thursday it was unfortunately too cold to stay in comfortably.
The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout and is in a great location, which made it very convenient for our stay. Overall, we had a lovely week and would happily return.
We stayed at the Hotel Daxer from the 5th - 12th Jan. warm welcome after a very long day , friendly and helpful staff, couldn’t do enough to help. Lovely hotel set away from town . Food was amazing and plentiful , staff always helpful . Room was great , lovely views , when it stopped snowing . Facilities are excellent . I’d recommend this Hotel to anyone and will be planning to visit again .
Yes it's out of the town centre but that's a plus in my eyes. Easy 20mins walk down through the trees, or catch the free bus {with Guest card) that is every half hour. Less frequent after 6 but run until 10.45pm. We booked via TUI and were in a Deluxe room. This was spacious with views of the lake and good balcony. 3 mins walk to the 3 open cablecars, also free with Guest card leading to some fab walking areas. Outdoor pool was lovely for a cool down, with a decent sized area with sunbeds for a relax in the afternoon. All inclusive was brilliant, decent wine and beer and variety of soft drinks. Tended to have Radler or wine spritzer during the day. Food was amazing -so much choice at breakfast and evening. Didn't bother with lunch but afternoon snacks was coffee, cakes and usually something else like soup or lasagne. Totally recommend this hotel if you're not a party animal.
Lovely hotel with pros and cons.
Beautiful setting
Friendly staff
Lovely meals. Lots of choice. Hot and presented beautifully. Reasonable choice for vegetarians
Very Clean
Wonderful Saunas and steam rooms. Clean large and lots of towels. Be aware people don't cover up
But....
No air Conditioning so hot in the summer.
Smokers area was by our room, so our room was always smokey, not great.
Towels were thin thread bear and like sand paper
Floors are thin so kept awake by people and children walking and running down the corridors
All inclusive, but they charge you €5 for a tiny paper bag to put your lunch in!!
Refused us lunch on arrival altho that's what we had paid for!!
Our rep sorted it for us but everyday we still had to battle to get a bag for lunch repeating TUI had sorted it out.
No food labels on anything which as vegetarians made it very difficult.
Food and drinks are cleared away before the allocated finish times so beware!
Fabulous breakfast buffet. Great bathroom. Super friendly and helpful staff.
Short walk to cable lift to mountain. Big walk down to town/waterfront but there is a bus 71.
We stayed in Hotel Daxer for a weeks ski holiday in March. I cannot recommend this hotel higher. My mum was injured so spent significantly more time than expected in the hotel and the staff couldn’t have been kinder and more accommodating.
The facilities, proximity to ski lifts, food, bedrooms and over vibe was perfect! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, we will be back 😊
Great stay at the hotel from the minute we arrived to the minute we left.
Fantastic staff who all work exceptionally hard, they always appeared happy and wanted to make sure everything was ok. The food was very good, great choice and good quality. Hotel bar prices no dearer than the bars in the town, but the bar itself is a bit small. Our room was good, not outstanding, but the bed was very, very comfortable. Pool and sauna are great and we used them a lot. The hotel location for the ski lifts is very good just a 50 metre walk, but the hotel is 2 Kms from the town of Zell am Zee and the bus stops running at 6.00 pm Sat/Sun and 6.25 pm midweek, we ended up walking up the hill on 4 occasions.
We really liked this hotel, it had a good vibe similar to that of a good chalet but with hotel facilities, that may have been down to the guests we met but I think the hotel & staff contributed a lot to the good atmosphere.
Two recommendations (for the owners) to make the hotel even better -
Move the bar from the restaurant to the room adjacent to the reception on the right from the front entrance. It would free up restaurant space, makes the bar area bigger and more comfortable. Guests will spend more money in a more relaxed area.
Provide more seating in or just outside, the ski/boot room. It was crowded mid March, I'd hate to see how crowded it gets peak season.
We will definitely be back and I'd recommend this hotel.
Really good stay here. Family of 5 (4 adults one
5 yr old).
Check in was really quick and easy and before check in time.
All the team here were friendly and efficient, nothing was to much trouble.
Food was really good and the waiters were amazing, food came hot and the choice of food was really good if you didn’t fancy anything from the menu you could put your self down for the buffet.
Soft drinks, hot drinks and water was unlimited and the alcohol was fairly priced and the Hugo/aperol spritz was really well done. I was surprised the bar bill was so small at the end of the week. It’s worth mentioning it’s cash only in the hotel so if you don’t like using atms take cash.
We had a ground floor room which was massive with underfloor heating. Ut had everything you’d need for hanging ski clothes up. I heard someone saying there should be tea/coffee making facilities in the room and seemed disappointed but there’s an array of self serve coffee/cappuccino/ teas/ hot chocolate and more before skiing and after skiing until 9pm so if you like a brew all in the night take a travel kettle.
The cleaner who cleaned our room 203 never saw them but it was left immaculate everyday. The only thing I was unhappy about was not being able to leave them a tip for all their hard work (had no cash once I paid my bill)
Swimming pool super, modern with exceptional views of the Forrest though a glass wall. My son loved swimming everyday for an hour.
Location is really close to the Trass express ski lift about 500 m away.
I would definitely stay here again.
Extra info
We didn’t go into town although the main bus station is 10 mins on the bus or 13€ in a taxi. The bus can be caught at the ski lift (number 71)
We went to the main spa in Kaprun which is further than you think we got a taxi there for 55€ and got the bus back to the bus station and a taxi back to the hotel.
I don’t review often but this hotel deserves it. All I can say is first class from start to finish. Firstly location to the main gondola for us with 3 children was ideal only a 2 minute walk. Rooms so clean and everything perfect. Swimming pool and saunas brilliant after a day on the slopes. Food unreal breakfast big selection, snack 3-5pm tea ,coffee ,soft drinks all day what more does anyone want. Evening meal choice of buffet or a la carte food was a very high standard. Big shout out to the staff serving drinks and lifting plates these guys are unsung heroes making dinner service run like clockwork they could teach a lot of server’s back home how to work. If you have anything to complain about if you stay here then there is no pleasing you. Great job everyone you made our holiday . To top it off we had a late fall of snow which made for some great skiing.
This Hotel is amazing, location for ski lifts brilliant. Rooms very comfortable
food delicious. The Swimming pool and saunas were great to relax .uscles at the end of the day.I cant think of anything negative to say about the hotel. The staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for the guests. The staff Team were led by a Manager , Ljios who never stopped and led his team by example.Thank you for a lovely holiday. Both my son and I had a great time and are booked to return next year 😀 Thank you
I can not fault this hotel ( other than its boiling but that’s ski hotels for ya!).
Staff, service, food , location, rooms - all excellent . Location is fabulous for the lifts and could get a bus into town when needed . Thank you for a fab stay, will definitely be back.
Beginning of March 25 we had amazing one week with family and friends in the hotel and would like to thank all staff for the great service ! Food , rooms , after ski facilities - swimming pool , saunas were great ,perfect location next to lift , everything
was above our expectations ! Also we are recommending already to friends for next vacations and we also like to repeat some time soon ! Big , Big Thanks ! :)
Review for Garden Hotel Daxer
Our stay at Garden Hotel Daxer was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome by the incredibly friendly and always-happy staff. The service was top-notch, and nothing was too much trouble.
The food was excellent, with a great selection at every meal, catering to all tastes. The facilities were equally impressive – the pool and sauna were perfect for relaxing after a day exploring, and the rooms were spacious, modern, and very comfortable.
A special mention to Conny, who went above and beyond to help us when we had an emergency—her assistance made a huge difference, and we are extremely grateful!
The hotel’s location couldn’t be better, right at the foot of the mountain, offering breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding peaks. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, this place has it all.
We highly recommend Garden Hotel Daxer and will definitely be returning in the future!
A fantastic hotel, we were travelling as 2 adults, 2 adult children and a partner. We were given a really lovely 2 bedroom family room for myself, husband and son. We paid for a triple room through Crystal ski, so was brilliant for him to have a separate room.
The food was excellent, plenty of choice for both breakfast and evening meals. The free soft and hot drinks were brilliant, and very drinkable, not cheap and nasty.
We couldn’t fault the staff, they were all so friendly and helpful. The swimming complex was great for relaxing after skiing, really lovely with plenty of seats.
My main concern was the location out of the town, but for the gondola it was superb. Just under a 5 minute walk, and you were on the way to the slopes. For the town, we walked down a couple of evenings, which was fine, but the climb up was too much after a full day skiing. We had a taxi back up, which was €20 for 5 adults. The hotel gave us the number for the taxi company, they were very efficient, thankfully not too far with the crazy driving!
