Domus Renier Boutique Hotel

We spent 14 days at the Domus Renier and have nothing but glowing things to say.

The hotel is a 17th-century Venetian palazzo, fully renovated but with great love for the original architecture and its details. Modern comfort and old-world charm - here, the two genuinely work in perfect harmony. The location in the heart of the old town, with rooms overlooking the historic harbour, the old lighthouse, and the sea, is simply unbeatable.

What stays with us even more, however, is the staff. Everyone was consistently warm and welcoming, from reception over kitchen staff to the room maids - and that held true every single day across two full weeks, without exception. Special mention goes to the breakfast host: each morning we were greeted so genuinely and warmly that the day could only go from one highlight to the next.

Breakfast itself, by the way, is served à la carte - something we greatly appreciated and hadn't expected at all. The quality is exceptionally high. The banana bread with espresso butter was arguably the best thing we ate during our entire 14-day stay - and that's saying something, given that Crete is generally a culinary treasure. Over warm conversations at breakfast, we also learned a great deal about Cretan culture and received wonderful tips for our day trips into the western half of the island.

Saying goodbye was hard. An wholehearted recommendation with the highest rating - we will be back.

What a beautiful experience to stay in this very lovely waterfront boutique hotel located in a gorgeous building in the Venetian Harbor, and with an absolutely wonderful staff who really make you feel at home. The service is above and beyond in this lovely place, the breakfast is amazing, prepared by incredible chef, Maria, and the views from the (very large, and beautifully equipped) rooms are a dream!

The staff and the facilities were wonderful. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating and wanted to make sure I had everything I needed. The hotel was beautiful and the breakfast was absolutely phenomenal. Thanks for a great stay!

This hotel is a true gem. I can, without hesitation, highly recommend it. It is a beautiful, historic, boutique hotel with exceptional care and thought given to every detail.

The location is absolutely perfect in every way - You can easily walk everywhere around the harbor and old town right from the hotel, which is located directly on the Venetian Harbor. Old town is made up of cobblestone streets with restaurants and wonderful, diverse shops lining both sides of the walkways - it is just a picture and completely authentic!

The breakfasts are divine :)! Each morning, you're started off with coffee/tea/cappucino, delicious fresh squeezed juice, and a three tiered offering of fresh pastries, smoothies, puddings and local specialty treats. Then, you order a full breakfast from a menu - omg, everything was delicious, fresh and made to order... what can I say, breakfast was just delicious! Rooms had plenty of storage and housekeeping keeps the hotel and rooms spotless. We had a room with a view of the harbor and loved it!

But what made staying at this special, gem of a hotel was that every single person from the hotel was welcoming, sincerely friendly, warm, caring, and helpful in every way, every day, from the moment we arrived - even though we were traveling to Santorini for the second part of our trip, we honestly did not want to leave the Domus Renier!

The concierges that greet you at the front desk were so friendly, thoughtful and helpful morning, noon and night. A big, huge call out to Romana (spelling?), who truly made our stay so magical, special, and unforgettable. Thank you again for being so wonderful and a big part of our memories of our time in Chania, Crete!

I've run out of room :)!! You will love the Domus Renier, the Venetian harbor and exploring the old town and especially the welcoming, friendly, incredible people of Crete, who touched our hearts! We did not want to leave and neither will you. Enjoy and safe travels.
