W Punta de Mita

A truly lovely location on the beach with an overall relaxing environment. This year we could get a 2+ mile walk in on the beach in the mornings--last year when we were there the beach was much smaller/shallower which limited how far you could walk before you came upon rocks/cliffs we couldn't walk around. The Rooms felt very private, most of the resort is effectively laid out as two room duplexes, which I find much nicer compared to a high-rise style resort.

I think this property offers great value compared to some of the other big name resorts in Punta Mita--particularly if you enjoy relaxing on an uncrowded beach vs playing golf.

Traveling with a multi-generational family of nine. Beautiful property, lovely service and perfect beach for walking (40 mins to walk to other end and back!).

A big shout out to Aide and Josue from concierge. They responded immediately via email before and during our trip. Best of all, they helped us plan the most epic surprise for our family matriarch — arranging a 10-piece mariachi band to celebrate her. Outstanding concierge service!!! Exceeded our expectations.

The W Punta de Mita exceeded all expectations. Returning after six years for my partner's birthday proved it's just as exceptional as we remembered. The hotel team contacted us before arrival to ask about any special occasions, and once I mentioned the birthday celebration, they went above and beyond—acknowledging it throughout our entire stay with thoughtful touches from complimentary drinks to desserts. Their attentiveness made us feel genuinely valued as guests. We rarely left the property because everything we wanted was right there: outstanding cuisine, beautiful pools, welcoming bars, and a spa that ranks among the best I've experienced anywhere. This place has earned our loyalty, and we're already planning our next visit.

My husband and I just visited here for 6 days over Thanksgiving week 2025. We had previously vacationed here back in 11/2021. I will say that this experience exceeded our expectations and we would go back again!

To start, the hotel is about a 45 minute drive from the PVR airport. The hotel will arrange for transportation for you if you ask, but it is so much cheaper to order an Uber once you arrive (you just have to cross the pedestrian bridge when you leave the airport).

The room: We had an escape suite room. We had the same room when here in Nov. 2021 but this one was so much nicer. It's a nice large room with a living area, with a gorgeous bathroom - 2 sinks, separate WC, and a "wet room" where you have a shower and soaking tub that looks onto your pool area. The patio had two chairs and a low table, plus to lounge chairs and a side table. The private plunge pool was awesome, but this room was better in that we also had a nice grassy area in front of the plunge pool, equipped with a couch, two cushy chairs, and a fire pit. This was all right behind the adult pool (where we had made friends and all ended up hanging out in this grassy area). We were even serviced by pool staff there which was awesome. It was super convenient to both the adult pool, as well as the beach! We loved the room and overall huge thumbs up. A small complaint (not a huge deal) was the very low lighting. I could hardly tell what I looked like when getting ready for dinners.

The food: we were pleasantly surprised by the food this time, as neither one of us remember that it was particularly great in 2021. The BIGGEST STAR is that they just added a new restaurant called Rubra in 2024, and wow, what an amazing decision. They're only open on Wednesdays-Sundays, or we probably would have eaten there every night. The restaurant itself is so beautifully designed, we felt like we could have been in NYC (but much better weather). Beyond the gorgeous aesthetics, the food was incredible! We live in SF and consider ourselves low level foodies, and we were blown away by the food. Every dish we had was phenomenal. And the flavors of the sauces were divine. We always ordered the Sonora Wheat Sourdough that comes with the most delicious cultured butter. This is highly recommended as we used it to mop up the remaining sauces from the dishes. It was that good. The green bean salad with mandarin, jicama and mango was to die for and we were drinking up the remnants of that one as well (do not miss that dish!). The waitress promised to get us the recipe and I regret forgetting get it from her before we left. Do not miss out on the short ribs. It's a dish for two, but do not skip it. It was the most delectable short ribs we've ever had. Tender as butter and again, the sauce was stupendous. The food here was an five star (really a 6 star), along with the service, and I would not be surprised if they received a Michelin star at some point.
The ceviche at the Chevycheria was excellent, and we indulged several times.
There was a sort of pop-up surf and turf dinner on the beach area the night we arrived. That was fantastic, from the grilled vegetable salad to the fresh grilled fish of the day to the lobster. Super flavorful dishes and simply yet deliciously prepared.
We ate at the Spice Market one night, which was a bit of a miss for us. But others we spoke with loved it, and it is a beautiful space. We did not eat at Verazu other than for the breakfast buffet, which is decent enough. The menu didn't really appeal to us and we didn't have great memories from our trip in 2021.
The W had a menu for Thanksgiving dinner, but we were really itching for more of an American Thanksgiving, so we gave the St. Regis a try. That was a huge mistake on our part. The dinner there was very med, service not good, and WAAAY overpriced for what it was (I think my husband wrote a review for that separately). Lesson learned. If we go to Mexico for Thanksgiving again, we will not try to have the typical American Thanksgiving. We should have known better.

The service at the W is about a 4.75 stars. EVERY SINGLE PERSON you run into that works there is the NICEST people we've ever encountered. Everyone had a genuine smile on their face and sincerely wanted to help. It was a pleasure interacting with everyone. One of the reasons we returned here is that when we left our trip back in 2021, I had left my Cartier watch in the room and was panicking as it was too late to turn back for it. I wrote to them in the app and they actually found it and SENT IT BACK TO ME! I don't know where else in the world that would ever happen. The only (very tiny) nits - I asked for decaf nespresso coffee pods upon arrival. They said sure but they never seemed to make their way to our room. I asked again on the second day and they arrived! Yay, but instead of giving us a few of the decaf pods, they removed all the regular pods (which my husband was using). They also didn't replace them as I used them so it only lasted a day or two. Not a huge deal as we discovered that Rubra serves coffee in the morning and their coffee is to die for. Otherwise the cleaning was great. We made a point to ask for cleaning service and turndown when we wanted it. DIdn't want to take a chance on missing it.

The Spa: we both went to the spa two separate days. I had two massage treatments, and my husband had one and a facial. We thoroughly enjoyed both. The spa is really beautiful. The changing rooms are huge and clean and just beautiful. They have a dry sauna and a wet sauna, separate shower rooms and amenities to get dressed, plus the rooms lead out to a shared/coed area that has a large pool, plus a small hot tub and cold plunge pool. It is really heavenly back there and they constantly come out bringing you refreshing tea/blueberry popsicles, frozen grapes, chlorphyll water, etc. We highly recommend!!

The gym: we spent every day in the gym and I don't really have much to complain about. It's a pretty great gym for a hotel. You've got all the cardio, plus a lot of weight machines and free weights. They have cold water and towels there as well.

I've seem some reviews complain about the state of the property, and I remember that a bit from 2021. But I really did not experience that this time. No, it's not a brand new property and some things are starting to wear. But I really did feel over all that the property was well taken care of. The excellent service by the staff, plus really nice mix of guests that were all very friendly (not uptight like at other resorts), plus the overall vibe of the property, makes it a real winner for us.

The room they checked us into, the shower was full of black mold and had stuff stuck to the wall as it had not been cleaned. The mirror by the shower had residue from the prior guest. The room was not clean. We checked out and they charged us for a room we could not shower in due to the uncleanliness. I have always liked the W Hotel chain; however, this was a sub standard hotel and not well maintained. Not only was the shower dirty it had chipped tiles.

A quick, last-minute getaway to W Punta de Mita did not disappoint! The resort perfectly blends modern luxury and lush tropical grounds with a relaxed, colorful beach vibe.

The beach is gorgeous! Perfect for soaking up the sun and taking in the incredible sunsets. The rooms were beautifully designed, spacious, and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We loved our private patios, the ideal spot to enjoy our Bonvoy welcome snack.

A huge shoutout to Héctor with the concierge team...absolutely amazing! Within 12 hours, he had us completely set up with dinner reservations at Spice Market, tee times for the guys at Higuera Golf Club, and spa services for the ladies at Away Spa. His attention to detail and quick responses were beyond impressive.

The spa was serene and beautifully set, treatments were divine. Highly recommend!

Check in was seamless, and the welcome Paloma was delicious. While waiting (only 20 minutes) for our room, we enjoyed another in the Living Room and chatted with Cassandra, the friendly and knowledgeable bartender.

The property has two pools with great ocean views and super-comfy lounge chairs. Our pool server, Ryan, was attentive, cheerful, and made excellent suggestions for cocktails and snacks.

We also attended the Marriott Bonvoy Golden Hour reception in the Living Room Bar, such a nice touch! Meliana, the manager, was a delight to chat with.

Dining was exceptional. At Spice Market, Diego provided fantastic service and spot-on recommendations. The food was delicious, and the ginger margarita was out of this world! The breakfast buffet at Venazu was the perfect way to start the day. Jesus took great care of us, always keeping our champagne glasses full, and the made-to-order chilaquiles are not to be missed.

Overall, W Punta de Mita is a true gem from check in to check out. Offering top notch service, stunning design, and a laid-back yet luxurious atmosphere.

Cons...super hard bed, not very clean, misc things didn't work (part of the shower), uncomfortable furniture in sitting area, not worth the money.

Nice hotel and beautiful setting. Sunsets can be stunning. I have stayed here twice. The first time there was a very loud wedding after party above us that went until 3 am. Called the front desk but made no impact. The second time I did not have that issue and it was nice and quiet. I have only stayed in the suites here with the plunge pool and those rooms are great. Food options are limited. For me the lush landscape and great beach along with great rooms are the reason to stay. Service and food is why I rate this 4 stars.

Clean room friendly staff

Friendly staff. Good food and drink options. Excellent variety of gluten free food options with knowledgeable staff on allergy requirements. Rooms are a little funky with limited bathroom privacy. Double room had limited storage but king room had plenty of space for stuff. Beds were comfy. Property is spread out but they do offer golf cart shuttle.
