I suppose the entry experience should have prepared me… a serpentine, unintelligible google map made a 4 mile entrance… 30 minutes of ‘where is it anyway?’ The staff is helpful and friendly… and everywhere you need to go is … far away. Carts go everywhere, and carts are required [I am somewhat impaired walking-wise] for ANYTHING. Ocean-side, I hoped for a seafood dinner. I am assured Restaurant menus can be scanned for my selection — delivery free! Except everyone contradicts this when you call for assistance. If your call is answered at all.
Not exactly a Premium experience — not exactly what the Marriott brand promises. I would stay elsewhere, but no Marriott properties are nearby to accommodate a request for transfer. “W” Punta Mita is a disappointment. I wouldn’t consider staying at this property again.
We spent a lovely week at the W in late March for Spring break. The resort, food and service were all wonderful and exceeded expectations. The spa experience was so peaceful and relaxing and the massage therapists were very strong and skilled. We thought we'd take some day trips but ended up spending all but one day on the beach and by the pool with drinks and snacks. Rubra was a highlight.
Great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
The W Punta Mita overall was a good stay, with a few caveats. To begin, the location and overall design of the hotel (rooms, lobby, pool and beach) were excellent, all working together to create a relaxing and secluded experience. I would recommend the lagoon facing rooms, but try to stay away from 1101/1102 as those rooms do not feel very private due to the nearby lobby and walking path. Moreover, the beach felt private and the included lounge beds at the pools were great. Finally, the food at the pool and at the spice market restaurant were both excellent, albeit very expensive. However, I can’t say the same for Venazu, which was very expensive for food that was okay borderline bad (and again very expensive). More, during our stay, both hot tubs were barely functioning, which was a disappointment given the high price tag. If you want a luxurious and relaxing vacation, choose the W. However, for the price of the rooms plus the crazy high prices for food and drinks, I would recommend looking into the nearby all inclusive resorts which seemed just as nice for a cheaper price tag.
The beach and adult pool area are excellent, really clean and not over crowded
The room and room facilities don’t feel like a 5 star hotel
It was our first time at the property, and we were well taken care of by the staff at the W. At arrival we were upgraded to a lake view room with a beautiful view of the lake (albeit a fake one!) where you could watch the local birds frolicking about, we were also given complementary breakfast with our status, which was a nice surprise. The property is beautifully maintained and is lush with greenery. The gym facilities were great and clean, and I also attended a wonderful yoga class at the Away spa. We ate at all four of the onsite restaurants, Rubra, Venazu, Spice market and the Wet bar. Rubra probably needs its own review, but the food and concept of 'back to the roots' Mexican cuisine by Chef Daniella Soto-Innes was an amazing experience. The breakfasts at the Venazu was also very pleasant (including buffet on the weekends). And I would like to give a shout out to Dani for excellent service. I had one of the best moles from their dinner menu. Spice market offered asian fusion cuisine, which was good but not great. I do highly recommend the ceviche from the Wet Bar especially at lunch.
My stay at the W Hotel was truly unforgettable. The Equinox event was incredibly relaxing, creating the perfect atmosphere to unwind and reset. One of the highlights was the takeover by Brujas Bar—it was fun, unique, and added a special energy to the experience. The mixology class was also fantastic, offering an engaging and interactive way to enjoy the evening.
The service throughout our stay was exceptional. Gustavo at the front desk provided outstanding hospitality from the moment we arrived. Marcos Montero, our bartender, was absolutely incredible—his creativity and attention to detail made every drink memorable. Fernando Arroyo, the restaurant manager, was also extremely helpful and attentive, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
The hotel itself has one of the best atmospheres—luxurious yet deeply relaxing. Our ocean-view room with a private pool was simply out of this world, offering both comfort and breathtaking views. The sound healing experience was another standout moment, leaving us feeling completely rejuvenated.
The spa, beautifully nestled among the trees, created a serene and natural environment. The different pools added to the experience, making it the perfect place to disconnect and recharge.
Overall, the W Hotel delivers a perfect blend of luxury, relaxation, and unique experiences. I would absolutely return.
As a long-time Bonvoy member, I chose W Punta de Mita expecting a true high-end Marriott experience. Unfortunately, this stay fell far short of that standard — especially at approximately $800 per night for an “ocean view” room that offered only a narrow sliver of ocean visible from one angle.
The room itself was inconsistent with what one expects at this price point. Towels were old and had an unpleasant odor. Housekeeping was unreliable — on 2 of our 4 days, the room was not cleaned despite multiple calls requesting service. Electrical outlets were concerning; several faceplates were loose and fell away when plugging devices in, exposing the interior wiring. The light and AC controls were overly complicated and extremely bright at night, requiring us to physically cover them to sleep comfortably. On a positive note, the pillows, sheets, and duvet were comfortable.
Dining was one of the most disappointing aspects of the stay. Two of the three restaurants were closed due to the cartel violence situation in Puerto Vallarta, leaving only one dining option that offered a mandatory $60 buffet. Because the resort was effectively on lockdown and we could not safely leave the property, we felt forced into that option. After raising concerns, we were shown an à la carte menu — but told that half of our group still had to order from the buffet. It felt inflexible and unpleasant.
On our first night, our group of 20 (with orders submitted two days in advance) was served by a single overwhelmed waiter. Orders were confused, some children received their meals after adults had already finished, and separating checks by room became unnecessarily complicated. Basic service standards were lacking — water was not brought to the table unless requested multiple times, and repeated follow-ups were needed before anything was addressed.
The pool area and vegetation/trees in the 'resort' is beautiful and the beach has lovely sand. However, poolside service was extremely slow and staff were difficult to find. Even when approaching staff directly, responsiveness was minimal.
The most troubling experience occurred when nine members (4 children) of our group checked out to fly home, only to have their flight canceled due to the ongoing violence situation. Despite having room availability, the resort refused to readmit them or even allow them back onto the property to stay with family members who still had rooms. There was no flexibility, no accommodation, and no goodwill gesture — nor any discount offered for the significant reduction in services during our stay.
Entry key card had to be reprogrammed numerous times if it comes in contact with mobile phone, no other luxary hotel has ever had this issue. Our entry key pad at one point had to be reprogrammed and battery changed by personnel, font desk acted like this is first time this has happened.
They do not have enough personnel. Bellman for checkout was going to take a longtime, we carried our luggages to front desk ourselves. To catch a ride to the front took a long while. Services not very optimized.
The front desk management’s demeanor was indifferent and unempathetic. In a hospitality environment — particularly under challenging circumstances — empathy matters.
This was not the level of service, safety, or professionalism I expect from a Marriott property in this category. I left deeply disappointed and would not return to this resort.
Our Valentine’s stay at W Punta Mita was truly next level. Our Nightly Upgrade Awards were confirmed before arrival, and the Premium Ocean Front Suite with private pool completely blew us away. The views alone were worth it, but having our own plunge pool overlooking the ocean meant we honestly didn’t need to leave the room. We even watched whales breaching right from our balcony, which felt absolutely epic.
The food across the property was incredible. Rubra was the perfect choice for a romantic Valentine’s dinner. We also loved Chevy Night at the beachfront restaurant. The surf and turf was to die for, and the setting felt intimate and special with the ocean just steps away.
We booked a cabana at Wet Deck Too for a day and it was PERFECT. The adults-only vibe, beach access right from the cabana, and fantastic service made it one of our favorite experiences. The family pool hot tubs were often filled with kids earlier in the day, but by late afternoon and evening they were usually open and a great time to relax without the splashing.
We also signed up for the guacamole and tortilla cooking class, which ended up being guacamole and salsa only. No tortillas, but honestly we still had so much fun. It ended up being just the two of us, so we basically had a private class with an awesome instructor, which made it feel extra special.
The staff throughout the resort were phenomenal. They even arranged an offsite dinner for us at Casa Tradicional, which turned out to be one of the highlights of our entire trip.
From the service to the food to the unforgettable ocean views, everything felt seamless and elevated. We cannot recommend this property enough and are already looking forward to our next stay.
We just spent three wonderful nights at the W. Overall, the experience was great. The rooms are a bit dated (my only reason to give it four stars), but everything else is first-rate, especially the staff.
In particular, I have to share that our experience in the small “truck” restaurant ("the Chevy”?) was the highlight of our stay. Joann, Bryan, and Fran were exemplary hosts and we would highly recommend the W just to experience lunch there. And Fran’s versions of ceviche were heavenly. I would place her creations as the epitome of Mexican cuisine (and we have been coming to Mexico since the 1980s.). Even if you are not sure if you will like ceviche, you will love Fran's magic - fresh, pure, and flavorful.
Antonio, the server at the Adult Pool, was also outstanding.
Had a terrific anniversary stay at this beautiful and fun resort in Punta Mita. The only issue keeping me from giving a flawless five rating was frankly the apathetic and unhelpful front desk staff. My wife was dealing with a severe leg injury so couldn’t handle stairs, but the front office staff (I discussed the issue with two separate associates) said there were no options available so nothing they could do. As a Titanium member I was quite perplexed.
Fast forward to when the hotel bell guys brought us to our room, saw the 15 steps down to our room and my wife’s concern, and they sprang into action. They immediately knew the room wouldn’t work for us, contacted management, and within the hour provided us with a suite with no stairs. Truly exceptional service and hospitality from Jesus and Leo.
Our stay was wonderful with terrific dinners at both Spice Market and Rubra. Special shout outs to the bartenders and Sommelier at Rubra.
Concierge, Aide, was exceptional, arranging transportation and dining reservations in town.
The pool staff was also great, and the beach side spa massage was fantastic.
Overall a beautiful property with great restaurants, awesome beach, and two stunning pools.
Staff is amazing service great. Liz de cocina best trompo. Al pastor tocos on the pool. Leo bellman is a gracious host
I have been a Marriott member for 45 years and this was the worst experience ever. We paid thousands of dollars for an all inclusive vacation. When we checked in my wife was not feeling well and we were told it was not inclusive and we would have to pay for our meals. They gave us the worst cheapest room like a dungeon. The hallway to our room was dark and dangerous. I spoke with the manager Ruban Escalante and he only offered us a discounted meal plan at $165 instead of $200 a day. I feel cheated we paid fa ton of money for a bad room and were told it was all inclusive and we were lied too….Do not stay at this terrible “resort”
A truly lovely location on the beach with an overall relaxing environment. This year we could get a 2+ mile walk in on the beach in the mornings--last year when we were there the beach was much smaller/shallower which limited how far you could walk before you came upon rocks/cliffs we couldn't walk around. The Rooms felt very private, most of the resort is effectively laid out as two room duplexes, which I find much nicer compared to a high-rise style resort.
I think this property offers great value compared to some of the other big name resorts in Punta Mita--particularly if you enjoy relaxing on an uncrowded beach vs playing golf.
Our room was close to the lobby and main amenities, which was great. On the downside this means you are more likely to have groups of people walking past you on the pathway back to their rooms at night. This wasn't a problem for me but perhaps something to consider if looking at a lagoon view room.
We had the absolute BEST and I mean BEST trip ever at the W Punta de Mita. The W Punta Mita took care of every wish and need going above and beyond at every step. It was pure relaxation and amazing vibes all around. The property is truly stunning from the rooms, to the restaurants, the pools, the beach (our favorite), and the spa (absolutely must book something at the Spa to experience it). The excursion we booked was great and very easy to coordinate as you can book through the hotel.
Truly what made this trip so special though was staff. They were absolutely amazing and all so kind. From the front to desk to wait staff to spa to bellhops. A couple special shoutouts below and I hope whoever is reading this gets to meet them:
Itza: AMAZING poolside service. We loved getting to know her and she was so kind to us and remembered our orders after the first day so we would come down to the pool or back from the beach and have our drinks waiting for us.
Augustino: Incredibly friendly and anticipated everything we could need. He had waters waiting for us at our chairs, drink refills just as we finished our current drinks, great food recommendations, and even better conversations.
Gabby: At venazu she was our waitress on our first night and she was so fun to talk to. We chatted with her throughout the rest of our stay and is so much fun!
Marco: FANTASTIC bartender at the living room bar. Was so nice chatting with him and having him make some cocktails or trying new liquors we haven’t had before.
Leiti & Gustavo: Both were fantastic at the front desk from check-in to check-out. We stopped by a few times throughout our stay to check on things and they were always so kind and helpful.
Estella & Josue: Both helped us coordinate transportation to and from the airport and also an excursion to the marietas islands (you MUST go). Josue was so detail oriented and very easy to work with and Estella was amazing too.
We will absolutely be returning to the W Punta Mita without considering another property!!
Traveling with a multi-generational family of nine. Beautiful property, lovely service and perfect beach for walking (40 mins to walk to other end and back!).
A big shout out to Aide and Josue from concierge. They responded immediately via email before and during our trip. Best of all, they helped us plan the most epic surprise for our family matriarch — arranging a 10-piece mariachi band to celebrate her. Outstanding concierge service!!! Exceeded our expectations.
We will be back!

La ubicación es fantástica. La mejor playa para poder pasear.
No me gustó la música que desde el desayuno a la cena es la misma. No te deja oír el mar. Propondría algo más relajado según las horas.
