Not great, will not stay again.
Pros:

It was a big room.

Cons:

The staff were very rude to me yet I saw them being very nice and actually smile when serving other people. I think the staff prefer the giant tour group bookings they constantly had and not solo bookings etc. If you want to check in early there is no chance, you have to wait till 3 on the dot, no hour early, no ten mins early. The benches in the room could do with a clean as they were sticky from previous guests as well as the toilet had pee stains on the outside from previous guests which wasn't cleaned the whole time I stayed. There are many cables hanging loose as well as lights. The beds are rock hard. There are not many options for breakfast there. If you want any western food you are out of luck as there is none at all. Many times I would go to get coffee and the machine would be out of beans so I would try to get a staff member but I was just constantly ignored. They also do not clean peoples tables after they leave so one morning I almost couldn't find a table to sit at as every table had people's left over plates and mess on which was really unhygienic. One morning I had a cockroach run around on the breakfast table. I personally do not think this is a 4 star hotel and I wish I knew what breakfast was like before I booked as I would not have picked it.

I will not recommend my friends to stay at Papawale
Pros:

The location of the hotel is not near MRT. It was so dark and difficult to find our room no. My friends got late check out at 2pm. When I asked the reception if they could offer me the late check out at 2pm. The staff refused to offer the late check out time. It was not a good experience for me.

Pros:

good location, the rooms were clean, and there is a great bar right next door.

Cons:

It depends on the type of travel you are undertaking (budget-conscious, family etc.,), but this hotel isn't worth the value for money, especially the weekend rates. The staff were very rude and for a hotel that seems to accommodate so many guests at a time, including families and children, may be worth trying to be a bit more friendly. I can't stress this enough: the walls are paper thin so you hear all the chatters, noises and sounds (and everyone else will hear you too). The lighting is extremely dim and there are no windows. While we opted for the "elegant double room", it was not spacious at all (though I am sure this is the case with most hotels in Taipei).
