The only good thing about the Banana Moon was the pool.
The stay was very disappointing. According to Google Maps, it is a hotel and the advertising to the street speaks of a "boutique hotel". The concierge service provided was a message on Booking.com saying which room to check into and that the key was in the lock of the door. It is not a hotel, as there is neither a manned reception nor room service. According to a notice at the bar, the towels are changed every three days. This did not even happen either. The notice is attached to this review as the pension's page on Booking.com does not list this information. We had to ask for waste disposal several times. The hand soap in the bathroom ran out and was only replenished over 24 h after a notice. The amenities list for the room also includes a coffee maker (not available), kettle (not available), fire extinguisher (not available), safe (not available), disinfectant (not available) and clothes rack (not available). There was a clothes rail in one wardrobe, but clothes hangers were not available. The kitchenette consists of a fridge and a sink with no cloth or washing-up liquid. The other equipment is extremely sparse. The owner lives in one of the rooms and likes to watch TV in the evening at a volume that we could hear TV over our baby monitor.
The weakest part was the breakfast offered. The rolls and bread were equally a day older with each day of stay. Only on the last day were there fresh rolls, whereby we sat at the breakfast table at around 9 o'clock and the owner first had to make his way to the bakery. There is the cheapest cheese, salami and jam available. If something is not eaten, then it might be no longer available the following day. Dishes were partly dirty. Coffee could be brewed yourself at the semi-automatic machine behind the bar. The morning before last, the children had drunk all the milk, so we had to organise our own milk at the last breakfast. Note: Breakfast was on site and not at Paraplous, as stated in some other reviews.
Even though I stayed one night the experience was really good at the hotel . I had the chance to relax even with my laptop ! The staff in the hotel was really friendly and helpful and the internet also very good (as I needed that to work ) . The breakfast was simple but full with fresh bread and tasty fruits. The rooms really nice too. I slept well over there! The most precious though was the moment of the sunset from the pool ! This is capturing !
It was a wonderful, quiet and relaxing place.
I had a room with a beautiful view in the sea and the swimming pool with the sourounding that is pretty amazing.
The sea is only 2 minute's walk so is pretty comfortable.

The friendly staff , peaceful environment being able to work with my laptop and relax at the same time in the pool ! The rooms are very comfy and spacious ! The location amazing by the sea with super sunset ! And also close to the centre of Rethymno ! Convenient parking space also !
Great location for quiet vacation and just 10min away from Rethymno. We spent a night with my boyfriend as part of our road-trip in Crete.
Nice vibes and very friendly staff especially Mr. Dimitris is 24/7 available for anything you need.

Banana Moon is located in a very quiet, charming area, with access to a small, private beach reserved for Banana Moon's clients and Paraplous restaurant (which is absolutely recommended both for lunch or dinner!)
The room was huge, bright, and clean. Common spaces are curated and useful (like the kitchen and the washing machine) and charming, like the green garden and the pool.
About the surrounding areas: we rent a car to Heraklion airport, in order to visit more places as possible during our stay. Rethymno is just 15 min by car (perfect for a walk in the evening), while many other places we were interested in like Chania, Heraklion, and the gorgeous beaches in the south like Plakias and Frangokastello are reachable in abt 1 hour.
Dimitris is really a perfect host! Thanks to him and his daughter we spent a lovely, family holiday.
