Hotel etwas schwierig zu finden, sonst gut
Pros:

This was a very nice boutique hotel.
Pros:

I loved where the hotel was located. It’s part of an inner courtyard so it was quiet even though it’s located between the Fontanka River and Rubinstein street. The room was good sized, new and very clean. The staff was very friendly and knew enough English to communicate.

Pros:

Very good location
Pros:

It's been dificult to find this hotel fro the street level. Facade from outside is in a poor shape. People don't speak English and food is terrible! Every day is the same. The first morning they give you 2 boiled eggs and 2 winners and 2 slices of 3 day old bread. The next day they give you one egg!
Don't count on the food!
As far as the star rating is not a 2 stars.....definetly bellow one!
Fouls advertising and missleading the public.
I would not recomend this hote to anyone.
Even native Rusisians who stayed there made comments that Graf Tolstoy was a catchy frase not worth rhecmonet!
There is plenty better hotels than this one

Pros:

very close to city center, view to the parking
Pros:

Stay in this hotel totally spoiled my experience of visiting wonderful city St. Petersburg, Russia. It started well - we were checked in, room was OK [ bed turned to be very uncomfortable ]. On the second day when we were out exploring the city, $300 dollars were stolen out of our suitcase [ hotel does not provide safe in the rooms ]: suitcase was open/small zipped compartment unzipped, and that's how we found it when we retuned that night - open suitcase/money missing. Hotel did not want take any responsibility for the incident - I called police, they came: I made the report, police talked to us and to hotel staff [ by the way, the staff who worked that day did not want to give me police number, but it was easy to find out ] - it was concluded cleaning lady took the money. Apparently, she was hired by hotel without any proper paper work - that is how some businesses there avoid paying taxes: by hiring illegal workers. Hotel did not have any information about that woman. I doubted she will be found, plus we are not there any more. Hotel staff did not want to replace the stolen money. At fist they said something about giving us one night free/paying for a sightseeing tour - none of that happened, my credit card was fully charged. One more thing: during our stay the person staying in the room across from us was very upset about condition of her room - mold in the shower. Bottom line - I will not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel: things get stolen/hotel does not cooperate

2 star hotel close to Nevski Prospekt
Pros:

Positive:
-situation relative to the city centre and metro Dostoievskaya
-tea available in the lunch room
-clean room, modern decoration

Minus:
-Not worth the price we paid ( 80 EUR, booked 50 days in advance).
-The entrance (building inside, entry stairs, hotel name plate, etc): make a very bad impression even for a 2-star hotel (the way other sites rate it)
-Don't take the room 7 !: you will wake up early in the morning because of noises on both sides: reception and the small room on the other side (staff toilet + sink)
-Breakfast is included, but we couldn't touch it; it's presented as "continental", but we received a warm boiled meal; we bought our own breakfast from the "24" shop next door.
-At breakfast, to have a decent coffee from the machine you must pay, free is only the "instant coffee".
-Personnel on duty Saturday-Sunday was not speaking a word of English, I had to use the "conversation guide in Russian".
-We left the luggage in the morning after the check out. Coming back in the evening to take our suitcases, we asked if we could use the hotel toilets: the answer from the lady on duty (in russian), was: 'No, sorry, this is only for us"...so blunt refusal
I have this message for that employee:
"We have been in hundreds of hotels in Europe, US, Asia, Africa, but never had this refusal before; with this attitude, Dear Madam, you have no place in the hotel business".

Sweet tiny boutique hotel in St. Petersburg
Pros:

The Hotel Graf Tolstoy is a a very small boutique hotel close to the major sights in Saint Petersburg. It's tucked away in a courtyard, very small sign on the street. We arrived fresh from the night train from Moscow, and they stored our luggage until check-in time. All staff were very helpful, and most spoke at least some English. We stayed one night during "white nights", and our second day they again stored our luggage until 23:15, so we could enjoy the city prior to our train back to Moscow. The rooms were simple but modern in style, clean, linens and towels were of good quality. Good heavy drapes allowed us to sleep late, and the inner door kept any hall noise from reaching our bedroom. Perhaps the one area where the Graf Tolstoy skimped a little was breakfast - Russian sausages, porridge, and two triangles of store bread with a little spreadable cheese. Still, it got us through to lunch at Petergof.
Also, while other sights may be better-known, it's a three block stroll to the Fabergé museum - a delight with the second-largest collection of Fabergé eggs in the world in a recently renovated palace on the canal.

Note to Americans: This is a European boutique hotel. It's not the Ritz, but if you like to talk to people and experience Russia like a European, it is in a great location, lovely staff, and plenty of neighborhood restaurants, bars, and other options near-by.

Small and close to sightseeing spots
Pros:

I got there early since I took an overnight train, and the receptionist let me check in early. :-) They tried to be communicative despite the language barrier, and they were happy to help.
