Pros:

Das Ghion Hotel liegt in einem großen Parkgelände und hat den Charme der 1950er Jahre. Der gepflegte Park hat einen historischen Baumbestand, Grünanlagen und vielen Blumen. Er ist eine Oase im Zentrum der lauten, verkehrsreichen Stadt voller Staub und Smog.
Kaiser Haile Selassi hat sich damals eine Suite einbauen lassen. Selbst wenn du nicht die Kaisersuite gebucht hast, fühlst du dich wie Haile Selassi, wenn du aus dem üppigen Angebot des Frühstücksbuffets auswählst und dir deinen rotgedeckten Platz in dem herrlichen Breakfastsaal mit Parkblick wählst. Die Auswahl wechselt täglich und du kannst immer wieder exotische Köstlichkeiten probieren und dir Nachschlag holen von dem, was dir besonders mundet. Zum Standard gehören herzhaftes und süßes Gebäck, gedünstete Möhren, Brokoli und Blumenkohl, frische Papaya, Ananas und Wassermelonen, Omelet, Kaffee, Tee und Säfte.
Für Mittag, Nachmittag und Abend gibt es mehrere Restaurants im Gelände. Es lädt ein Schwimmbad mit olympischen Maßen und Sprungturm ein.
Die Zimmer sind hell und großräumig und mit reichlich Möbeln ausgestattet, die Betten mit hervorragenden Mateatzen.
An der Einfahrt zum Hotelgelände befindet sich eine Bank mit Geldautomat und der Supermarkt Queen's. God save the Queen, denn hier kannst du dich zu Minipreisen für deinen Tagesbedarf eindecken.
Vom Hotel aus bist du in zehn Minuten am zentralen Aufmarschplatz Meskel Square mit seinen Terassen, dem Red Terror Museum, dem Oromo Museum, der Stefanuskirche mit der Metrostation Estefanos und den Haltestellen der Minibusse. Wenn du dich vor Gedränge nicht scheust und den einfachen Menschen nahe sein möchtest, kannst du mit diesen Verkehrsmitteln für elf Eurocent kilometerweit fahren. Es kann allerdings sein, du sitzt mit nur einer Arschbacke auf der Bank oder dem Kotflügel. In der Metro kann es auch zu Taschendiebstahl kommen.

Cons:

Der Lift scheint schon Jahrzehnte außer Betrieb. Die Sanitäranlagen sind veraltet.

Cons:

The WiFi went out for 4 hours or so, nothing offered in return for this key feature not working. Took an hour to get a bath plug?? Bath was dirty at that. Also sauna was turned off by about 4pm so who know who would actually be able to use it

The breakfast was good. Bed was fine.

Cons:

Poor room services. due to nonfunctioning television.. No cups and even spoon in the room for customer. Staff aren't smart enough. You have to ask everything before they are provided

Don’t think I’ll stay there on the return.
Pros:

Stayed there because of the gardens to do some birding. Very average hotel and needs a lot of detail to maintenance.
Hardly slept as there were people talking loudly and banging doors till early morning.
The staff were very helpful and took me to get a simcard and change some money.

Cons:

Very noisy all night.

Pros:

I didn’t like the lack of knowledge of the reception staff about booking with expedia. I resented the fact that my credit card details were asked to verify my booking on the day of checking out. They had all week to do that. I had to show them the receipt on expedia account on my mobile.

The Ghion short visit.
Pros:

It's the end of winter time and the rooms were cold. The hot water does not come on after 11pm sometimes. It's only one key so housekeeping can't clean your room when you are out. Walls are very thin because I can hear chatter. Staff are quite lovely, helpful and friendly. Food is very good. Location is ideal for going to your business meeting or for site seeing this beautiful city Addis Ababa.... Lots of incredible history to soak in for the first time.
