What separates the best hotels is the service and Hotel Alpenhof meets the bar of a luxury hotel. Many of the staff knew exactly the room number that we were staying in without us every uttering a word. Your room would get cleaned while you were down at breakfast - which shows you that the restaurant and staff are communicating to make your stay effortless.
The food was incredible - we want to know what it would be like to eat at a Michelin restaurant daily and it didn't disappoint. If you are worried that there will be too little food, dont! There are many courses and an ample buffet + you can take from the kids buffet as well. The kids buffet was different each day and our kids loved the food. Even the simple items at breakfast were very well done. We traveled with 2 young kids and they even allow the kids to choose any dish they want from the adult Michelin-level menu. They also had so many small touches that elevated the cuisine like boiling your own eggs, making your own smoothie, honey directly from the farm still in its honeycomb.
The location wasn't in a busy area which we enjoyed. If you are skiing it is 1 stop away from the glacier or a 15 min bus ride in the other direction to get to a few more lifts (which we did daily). There are multiple buses that run and the stop is 1 min walk from the hotel so it was very convenient.
The entire hotel was very cleanly. The spa area was fantastic with many different types of saunas. It felt like there were at most 5 people in the entire sauna area so it felt very private. Our kids enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pools often.
Lots to do at the hotel because they have a whole work-out gym and then another gym with bball nets, volleyball net, hockey, football/soccer equipment. They have a teen lounge with foosball, PS5, pool and an arcade game.
We weren't sure what it would be like with young kids but our kids loved it. It does have a bit of an elegant (read: less kid vibe) because the majority of the guest do not have kids but there is plenty to accomodate the kids.
The Alpenhof never fails to deliver joy and delight. We arrived exhausted and left revived and happy to have chosen to spend Christmas at this fabulous hotel. Every attention to detail was spot on, including carols by the Christmas tree with the Dengg family leading a charming Christmas Eve celebration. Thank you, Dengg family and Alpenhof team.
An excellent hotel in many way: very friendly personal always ready to help, beautiful rooms , delicious food, very nice sauna and many sportfavilitys.
The best hotel I have ever been to
The best hotel ever. This was our twentieth visit, and every time we think it can't get any better, but it always does. A hotel where every detail is taken care of.
We travelled from UK and opted for this place to have a summer glacier experience at hintertux glacier and chose this hotel as this is the ideal location for this., Alpenhof is an amazing and fantastic place, situated at the base of the mountain, excellent spa, wellness facilities, brilliant jacuzzi/swimming pool, fantastic fitness centre and they have got a wonderful teen game room as well which my son enjoyed a lot. On top of everything the restaurant is awesome and fantastic food service with the food of excellent and great quality prepared using fresh produce. They even took care of our vegetarian preferences and excellent choice of meals esp. Dinner experience. Staff are very friendly and happy to help, the centre has got an amazing massage therapist and we had great time during our visit. Would definitely not hesitate to visit again. We had a memorable time
Location was great, breakfast, lunch and dinner were really awesome, great food quality, loved the teen game room, fitness centre, spa facilities, jacuzzi. Sauna was very very good
8th holiday in Hotel Alpenhof, it gets better every year. Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, stunning scenery, great food and everywhere is spotless.
The nicest owners ensure everything is perfect.
I stayed at Alpenhof in Hintertux for one week in August. My goal was to spend as much time as possible hiking and running in the mountains — and Alpenhof turned out to be the perfect base for that.
The location couldn’t be better: trails start right outside the door, and every day I came back from hours in the mountains to the warmest kind of welcome. The staff here are truly exceptional — generously welcoming in a way that makes it feel like a little homecoming each time you return.
And then there’s the reward after the effort: their fine dining is outstanding, a real culinary experience every evening, and the spa is simply endless. From saunas to pools to quiet corners, it’s designed for full relaxation, which was exactly what I needed after long training days.
Alpenhof manages to combine top-class service, comfort, and gourmet experiences with genuine warmth and hospitality. I’ll definitely be back — it’s become one of those rare places that feels both like a luxury retreat and a second home.
We stayed at Alpenhof Hotel two weeks ago, and we’re still carrying with us the warmth of the welcome and service we received. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel at home from the first moment.
The hotel organizes fantastic activities that truly made our stay memorable – the BBQ experience with view on the Alps after a beautiful e-bike tour was absolutely unmissable, and the sunset hiking tour was breathtaking.
The dining experience was exceptional as well: from the generous, high-quality breakfast to the delicious dinners, every meal was a highlight. Add to this the wonderful spa, outdoor whirlpool, and you have the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure.
We can’t recommend Alpenhof Hotel highly enough – a truly special place that we look forward to returning to.
The Hotel Alpenhof is a brilliant family run hotel which prides itself on amazing customer satisfaction, to the extent that many people we met had returned very many times. This was our first, but I hope not our last (and we rarely go to the same place twice!). Not many British customers have discovered this place and met met so many lovely people, mainly Austrian, French and Belgian.
We booked the Hotel Alpenhof last minute, only a week or so beforehand, on www.bookings.com after reading reviews. We booked flights from Birmingham as all Manchester flights were sold out, but it actually worked out fine for us this way.
We don't usually go full board but the food reviews were excellent and we thought it may be difficult to find restaurants at the end of the Zillertal Valley. We are so pleased we did.
HOTEL LOCATION the hotel is at the end of the stunning Zillertal Valley at 1500m, taking 1.5 hrs from Innsbruck Airport. The hotel arranged a private transfer as this was a good option for us (we didn't need a car as it was our first time there with plenty to do without a car for at least a week)- this was cheaper than car hire.
THINGS TO DO Really, if you're going to stay here, it's certainly for the outdoors, probably for the walking (and possibly the bonus of the spa experience). The hiking is phenomenal!!! So many, well marked routes, mostly steep I'd say. Usually we did 400-1000m.ascent but you could go up on a cable car to start and walk along and down if you prefer. We're experienced hikers (often go walking in Lakes and Dales in UK, and previously munros in Scotland) so found this area excellent. We didn't climb, cycle or do any water sports but you can do these activities- the hotel would advise. We mostly walked independently, using All Trails (which is OK but doesn't show the numbers of the well-numbered routes- perhaps there's a better App?) and also the hotel's paper maps(which did have route numbers on). Everything was really well signposted, even when on small paths high up, compared to the UK. I loved the red and white painted signs on rocks and trees, indicating that you were still on the route. They didn't seem to spoil the environment! The alpine meadows were stunning (and of course, always accompanied by the sound of cowbells!). Often there's a hut at the top for refreshments and toilets if you wish. We found plenty of walks straight from the hotel each day but you're also given a free bus pass if you want to explore further down the valley and you can also take a cable car up before starting your walks if you wish (cable cars are extra).
The cable car to the top of the Hintertux Glacier is impressive, especially if the weather is clear (as it was for me) - views astonishing!
The hotel also has a great range of guided walks Monday to Friday. We only went on one, with Steffi, and it was a really lovely day out, taking the bus, then cable car, followed by a walk up to a ridge with great views and down to the hotel's own family hut for an amazing BBQ before the walk down. Steffi was really kind and very knowledgeable, advising us on other walks for our final day. I wish we'd had time to go on a few more of the guided walks.
At the end of each day, we enjoyed the excellent and very beautiful spa. We've not really experienced spas much before and, although I did go and explore, we felt a bit shy of the adults only 'naked' spa areas. However, there were plenty of non-naked/family areas to enjoy, with something for everyone...several saunas, steam rooms, loads of little areas to relax, a large enough indoor pool to properly swim, and outdoor whirlpool with infinity pool and jacuzzi overlooking the mountains from the pretty garden. Loads of sunbeds. There's a good gym which I used one day. There's also a beauty treatments area which you needed to book and pay extra for, of course. I had a wonderful back and leg massage. The spa area was generally really quiet and often I had it all almost to myself! I'm sure this isn't the case in the 'high' winter season.
WEATHER we went in early August and the weather was perfect for us. The first half of the week was mild with some cloud, some sun and some drizzle but it never poured down and we went prepared. Everything dried quickly because, when the sun comes out, it's intense. The second half of our stay was sunny and warm to hot (although the max was prob 28C, it felt warmer as the alpine sun in more intense). Staff said that it's rained a lot in July, so perhaps you could be unlucky?
HOTEL ROOMS
The hotel is truly fabulous. All areas are 5 star. The room we had, a junior suite, was spacious with a queen bed, views of the mountains, balcony, large bathroom with bath and separate shower. Separate toilet in room too. Loads of wardrobe space. Tea and coffee maker weren't in room automatically (like we're used to in UK 5 star) but were offered on arrival and topped up whenever we asked. There wasn't a fridge or minibar but we didn't need these and you could call reception for anything you wanted anyway. Bathrobes and slippers provided (some brought their own flip flops for the pool area if you want those).
FOOD
TRULY 5 STAR! Full board includes all meals with really flexible meal times, which you don't need to book in advance...this was really great as we never know what time we want to eat and here you didn't need to! You do however book your evening meal options each morning as you eat breakfast. You pay extra for all drinks, including tap/alpine water but prices are reasonable. Full board includes their absolutely wonderful food! It is honestly the best hotel food we've had, having stayed in many hotels in UK and abroad (possibly breakfast in Dubai Business Hilton was better but not for evening meals). Breakfast was really varied and catered for all tastes, buffet style but with a chef to cook omelettes etc.).
Lunch was available, if you wanted it, from 1pm to 5pm and had a variety of dishes each day.
However, it was the evening meal which stood out!!! Each evening, there was a self serve salad, followed by served starter, fish, soup, main and dessert. There was also fresh bread, a variety of butters and oils, and also a huge selection of cheeses if you could manage them. The food was of an extremely high standard and we didn't think it could really be topped until we went for the gourmet evening on our final night.. .see separate review!
STAFF the staff were all amazing...so friendly and helpful. I can't really pick out any individuals because they were honestly all so nice...from front of house greeting, to service in the bar and dining room, to the cleaners and also the personal presence of the owners, who always praise and include the word 'team' in their information. Staff said they loved their job. We don't speak German, which wasn't a problem at all.
I'm sure there's more than I've forgotten!!!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
An absolute gem. Wonderful atmosphere at the hotel from the employees, the layout and the other guests. Such a lovely place to spend time. The restaurant is amazing, gourmet in the evening, but also with a salad buffet so you can eat healthy in addition to the 5 course gourmet dinner. Spa is lovely, gym is big enough and there is basketball/football and trampoline in addition to teenager room for the kids. Just wonderful. I will definitely come back - oh, and skiing in July on the glacier was amazing
