The building had intrinsic charm and our room was large
There was no mention of the long and difficult stairs to get there. The room was nice but the bed had a very thin, probably foam mattress which was very uncomfortable. We divided and I slept on the sofa/bed also not comfortable but better than the bed. Breakfast could not have been more minimal! Really pathetic for what we paid. Receptionist not available all hours. Think this “hotel” is run on a very small budget and it is disgraceful to charge so much for so little.
Great location.
If was very pricey. Staff was seldom around when you needed them.
The hotel was clean, the room was spacious and we had a great view of Hydra from our room. There were also lots of hangers in the cupboards, which was useful.
I think it's important for people to know - and this was not obvious to the myself or the other six friends who stayed at the hotel - that it's up about 150 steps. While they have mules to bring your luggage up and down, this is a little restricting on a day-to-day basis and should be something the hotel proactively communicates upfront.
Our bathroom was missing glass from the shower. You could see where the glass should have been hooked to the rail, but when I complained, the hotel tried to convince me this was a 'design feature'. Unfortunately this made for a very wet bathroom, which felt unnecessary when replacing the glass is a clear solution. The extra towels from the hotel didn't help the situation much.
The matress was extremely thin - more like a topper than an actual matress and the pillows were rock hard. The air conditioning in the rooms were also located behind the curtains which meant you had to either keep the curtains open, or lift them up onto the window ledge to keep the air conditioning working well. They had not run the air con prior to our check in so it took a good few hours to cool the room down.
There was also was very little space for hair and make up. The bathrom had one tiny ledge, mostly taken up by the sink, so I ended up using the kitchenette to store my products. It would have been nice to have a smaller mirror and space to do hair and make up.
We had a little patio area, but it was right next to the communal breakfast area and the blind on the door did not close, so we rarely used it, except for drying swimwear and towels.
Finally - the breakfast was not good. The melon slices were non-existent, there was no cereal and the eggs looked like they'd been sitting in the sun all morning. It was disappointing so we ate at the port each morning instead.
The hotel was nice, but definitely not worth the very expensive price we paid and I would definitely have expected more.
Traditional Hydra Villa
Poor beds, terrible breakfast, location required climbing over 160 uneven stone stairs & mule service, which is utterly necessary, does not start till 6pm on hot days, making arrival extremely inconvenient and unknown in advance
The room was cosy and comfortable. However, the aircon blows on the bed which is not so good when you are sensitive to cold on the neck
Breakfast wasn't great though. I feel for the price we paid, I expected some more variety, better coffee and freshly baked eggs. All over overpriced.
Lovely staff & a nice location overlooking the port area.
The rooms were clean & spacious.
Shower leaked into the bathroom making everything wet.
Breakfast was fine but a bit uninspiring.
