1) Nice location: close to Aizuwakamatsu station, bus terminal, and view from the hotel
2) Clean
3) vending machines near reception
4) 24 hr free tea/coffee
5) Umbrella renting (common in Japan, though)
1) Poor quality breakfast. They say it's up to 9.30, but they stop refilling from 8.30 onwards, and some items are only provided once for the day. Even though we could not get there after coming at 8.15. No variation in food except in soup. Pure Japanese food, except for one type of bread, nothing else. It's boring to stay more than 1-2 days.
2) It's unfortunate that there is almost no staff (including in reception and the breakfast area) who know English. It's a huge problem for those who do not know Japanese. I said "almost" as I found a lady at reception only on the 5th day who speaks English.
3) While most of the hotels in Aizuwakamtsu have a check-out time of 11 AM, theirs is 10.00 (despite 3 PM check-in). They even rudely denied a 5-minute delay in check-out and warned of an extra fee.
4) Only one lift. Sometimes, need to wait long
5) Very small toilet--no lock in toilet (be aware, if you are staying with family)
6) A rare hotel in Japan, where the receptionist has no smile on their face. Weird check-out system that does not work properly. However, the staff, despite being present, were forced to return keys to the machine. The staff saw that they had a problem, but still insisted on using the machine. After some tries, although unsuccessful, she only agreed to take it by hand. Yes, I understand there are some hotels with self-check-in/ check-out without staff. But I don't understand the logic of not helping travellers and wasting time despite being present and without doing any other job. Maybe hotel management does not care, as there are only a few hotels in the station area. People do not have much choice.
7) Not sure if it's worth knowing as a 3-star hotel
8) Forget about rooms, you can even hear conversation from a room in the lift area...so poor soundproofing in the rooms
9) No English channel on the TV (not surprising in such a rural area, though)
