Great location, perfect for what we needed
Pros:

The locations was perfect for my family. There were resteraunts and convenience store within a very short walking distance. It was very quiet from inside and outside. There was someone at the reception desk everytime we came in, to include a 2230 return. The rooms were nicely prepared and clean when we arrived. My family had a queen room and an adjoining 2 twin room which was enough for my family of 4. The only complaint was that when we arrived the door between our adjoining rooms did not work. The person at the front desk did come up immediately and got the door opened, but had to remove the knob to do so. The door wasn't able to be closed after that which was ok with young children in the twin room. Overall, it was a great location, for a great price.

They didn't give us what we paid for, so we cancelled!
Pros:

Messy and cluttered. We booked for 2 nights, we were so disappointed with the hotel that we cancelled and forfeited half the money paid, as they have a non refund policy. The biggest disappointment was that we paid extra for The Grand Suite with King Bed.. which looks amazing on Booking.com, but we were told that the room that we paid for was occupied and we should accept another completely different room for the same price. To be honest looking at the outside of the building, I think even the Grand Suite view would be of building works below, as that is what we observed

Terrible experience at The Hive Chiang Mai, Thailand
Pros:

This is a review after 19 night stay at The Hive Chiang Mai, Thailand.

1) An essential piece of information to know is that the Hive locks its main doors from 22:00 to 8:00, and guests must have phone/cell service to dial the phone number to unlock the door so they can enter/leave the building during this period. This is hugely inconvenient for people who do not have access to a cell phone. The hotel does provide a temporary phone to guests who need it. The one I was given didn't work until they installed a new sim card. Because of the hotel’s uncaring attitude, I was trapped inside the hotel and almost missed my day tour. No apology from the hotel!!

2) Housekeeping at the Hive is extremely unsatisfactory. I wrote several notes requesting housekeeping and gave them directly to the front desk, two of which were ignored and I did not receive the services requested. Three times, I had to bring used towels to the front desk and ask for clean ones. Once, I had to catch the housekeeping crew for clean towels, bath mat and tissue paper after realizing they skipped my unit altogether.

3) Vital services are lacking. I had to leave the hotel at 7 am on my check-out day and I asked the hotel to arrange a taxi for me to the train station. Hotel staff perused a note of my request, but they never confirmed or notified me it was done and so I ended up making my own arrangements.

4) Room amenities at the Hive are very poor. There is no desk to work at or put a computer, so I had to sit on the bed to work. There was also no bedside table with a lamp, so I had to leave the entrance light on while sleeping in case I needed to get up and move around at night, which was very bright.

Overall, I was extremely unsatisfied and disappointed with my stay at the Hive. The staff was extremely unhelpful and seemed to have very little concern about the quality of services they provided. I would not recommend the Hive Chiang Mai to anyone.

I was totally happy that I could get out of the Hive Chiang Mai Hotel after 19 night stay – it was a very distasteful experience. I don’t recommend the Hive Chiang Mai Hotel to anybody.

Could be a boutique hotel with some minor attention.
Pros:

Stayed here for a week, was booked by a friend near to their home. A really nice, small modern hotel, small but comfortable room, good aircon, plenty of hot water, quiet location, but just one or two things which could be improved,
No desk or chair in the room, essentiasl these days for laptops etc, no bedside lights & no convenient switch near the bed so tread carefully in the dark after turning off the main light switch by the door.
Friendly staff, convenient neighbourhood, breakfast available but no restaurant.

Cozy Stay
Pros:

A cozy hotel located near the Nimman area and airport. It has a roof top terrace for evening chill out, enjoying the sunset view of Nimman area. The staff at the hotel is meticulous, helpful and speak relatively good english.

Cozy hotel
Pros:

Nice cozy hotel in the Nimman area. The rooms are small, but functional and look modern. The bed was great.
Lot's of tv channels, just a few are English.
For some it might be handy to rent a motorbike to get around the city.
The hotel has free parking.

Honeymoon stop at The Hive
Pros:

Our stay here was amazing. It's in a hip area of town (Nimman area) with nice shopping and fun little cafés. It was in the middle of the old town and the mountain temples. The staff were very accommodating and kind. They provided directions, suggestions, and made a delicious breakfast.

Lobby smells like bad perfume, looks cool though
Pros:

The Hive is a nice hotel but could use some adjustments. The lobby has some sort of VERY strong scent machine. It's overwhelming and smells like awful perfume. Our room smelled like this too but we left the window open for a few hours and it was fine. There was also some confusion with whether breakfast was included. Our booking from hotels.com clearly stated that breakfast was included but The Hive said it wasn't. There was even a sign on the concierge desk that said breakfast was served in the lobby starting at 7:30AM. So we thought we would have breakfast, came downstairs and there was nothing. I guess they outsource breakfast because we didn't have the choice to purchase at breakfast either. You have to place your breakfast order the night before. The hotel owner and managers insisted we had to bring this to hotels.com. They actually placed the call for us. We submitted a formal incident online and still haven't heard back. The manager did give us a nice fruit plate to make up for it but we were disappointed. Based off of looks, cleanliness, and neighborhood I would recommend The Hive. They need to figure out the disconnect with what the booking says online though and get rid of the scent in the lobby.

The receptionist said no smoking allowed but the room smell like smoke or maybe it was some aromatic sense that too strong.

Parting was small.

Breakfast was great!

Great Little Home Away from Home
Pros:

This is a relatively new, clean, hospitable, quiet hotel within walking distance of the old, walled city. Good-sized rooms. Friendly, accommodating staff. Interesting and engaging owner. A somewhat mediocre breakfast is included in the price of the room. (Coffee is instant only.)

Nice hotel with nice staff
Pros:

I stayed for 3 nights at The Hive. The hotel is easy to reach, most grab driver knew this hotel. The hotel is clean and the room is spacious, especially the bathroom. This hotel is recommended and we can find food easily and 7/11 is nearby.

Not for westerners
Pros:

The hotel rooms are nice but this is not a hotel if you are not Thai or Asian or if you have any walking limitations. It is on a quiet soi with no tuk tuk available outside the hotel so you have to walk 10 minutes even to find a 7-11.

The day staff speak almost no English and there is no food available except for breakfast limited to fourThai choices. the only westNot even an egg or a piece of toast.

There is not even one English speaking TV channel so this is not a farang guest and the only staff who spoke any Englishess worked overnight. . In three nights I was the only westerner staying there.

With a large selection of less expensive hotels on the main road this is a place to avoid!

Brand new hotel with funky design!
Pros:

My family and myself planned to travel to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai back and forth for six days, and the Hive Hotel was our first stop on the 25 Sep, 2017. We found this hotel online, and of course being attracted by how new this hotel is! Just over three months! And the rate was so good that we couldn't resist. Breakfast for two included too!

As the name suggested, this hotel full of Honey/ Bee design. Bed was comfortable and shower facilities are very up to standard EXCEPT the fact that they do not provide tooth brushes. Well...luckily there is a convenient stall nearby, so we simply drove out and bought some.

The next morning, we had breakfast, and it was surprisingly great, especially the portion they served! And yes, we were asked to choose what to have for breakfast upon check in. (6 choices).

Very nice! Thank you team!

Our favourite hotel, best service, prime location
Pros:

We stayed at The hive for 2 nights. This is our favourite hotel we stayed at for our trip. The service is superb and staffs are very polite. The room is pretty chick and new. There are everything we need in the room. Wifi signal was great and there was even a huge smart tv in the room! The hotel is in quiet soi of nimman so no noisy people around. Breakfast is very nice and unique. Overall, we love the hotel and definitely will be back again for sure.

A "must stay" hotel.
Pros:

If you decide to visit Chiang Mai and fancy a bit of luxury at an affordable price, I urge you to book a room at The Hive. The young man on reception was very welcoming, as were the other staff members too. In the morning I was presented with a breakfast that was worthy of a place in an art gallery and tasted just as good as it looked. Trust me, you'll be hard pushed to find a better place to stay in CM.
