If you're visiting from far away like the United States or on a special trip, I'd recommend staying at the Blue Apple Beach Club instead. You don't want to cheap on the little stuff on a vacation. The room was advertisied as having Wifi, and it did not have Wifi or cell signal. Youll have to walk by the pool area to make calls. Also the bathroom has black mold around the sink, and the shower water temperature doesn't get warm or hot. Those basic comforts make a big difference on a vacation, so I wouldn't recommend if you're on a nice family vacation. They charge for water bottles and the water isnt drinkable. The food options are more limited.
After you've sprung for all the other travel arrangements to get here, just get a nicer hotel. If you're from nearby and could return whenever, the staff are kind and the island is beautiful.
The team were very attentive but we were the only couple staying there !
There was nothing to do as couldn’t leave the hotel on our own as told not safe and when we did leave the hotel grounds with a member of the team felt unwelcome by the locals and nothing to see or do. It was our most expensive hotel in the whole of Colombia for nothing extra and being the only visitors when we looked at the upgrade room they wanted extra £40 per night, luckily we didn’t agree.
Leonardo was amazing!! He went beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. He made us feel like beautiful princesses. We loved Leonardo!
The wifi was weak in the rooms.
Beautiful location
Wonderful staff especially Leonardo the front of house manager. He made our stay very enjoyable.
We walked into the village and visited the Castillo. castle was great village was a real let down
Rubbish and litter everywhere. Apparently this is a culture thing!
The views were good, room was great, food was good. Staff were very helpful (with exception of the manager)
Getting there and back to the mainland wasn’t easy. The swimming pool was often dirty and animals often drank the water. There is no beach at the resort. The nearest beach is a short walk across some rocks. Internet was patchy and the tv didn’t work. During our stay, there were a total of 5 other guests, so it is very quiet.
The room is fine (except the bathroom) and its clean. WiFi works OK. There are nice beaches nearby. Breakfast is OK.
When we arrived they wanted to charge us more even though in booking it was written the price I did the booking. There were few phone calls but then they accepted. When we arrived it was early so we didn't see anyone else but later on we realised that we were literally the only guests. There is always a construction and fixing going on in the hotel. On the first day we ordered typical fish plates and a burger. They took almost 2 hours to arrive. The prices are high but it's the same everywhere in the island, still waiting for 1.5-2 hours wasn't what we were expecting. The staff is very disorganised and look like they don't really wanna work. The music in the pool area is too loud, they also put movies or football matches in high volume without thinking the guests. The pool is dirty. The bathroom in the room is very old with a very weird sink and the water from the faucet comes only 2 seconds when you push the button then it stops so you have to push 3-4 times at least to wash hands. Because the hotel was kinda abandoned with no people and too much staff going around randomly we preferred to hang out another hotel nearby. They sold us a tour which takes you to 4 islands, when you buy a tour from a hotel you expect it to be a good, well this wasn't. Its one of the worst tours I've ever been. The guy that sold us the tour which is working for the hotel lied about the tour, he told us a totally different itinerary than we did with the tour, and didn't take responsibility when we asked for a refund and blame the tour company. We bought also private boat to go back to Cartagena, we paid 40mil pesos per person expecting to be picked up from the hotel but they told us that the waves are big so we have to go to Bochacina where the boats arrive and when we asked if the motors to take us there were included they said yes. Motors arrived and they asked money, the guy that sold us the boat came and told us that he didn't say that was included.
IWe likes everything about this Hotel...we enjoyed our stay so much we stayed longer...A big thanks to Orlando and Mariano who were both fantastic....
Nothing
The pool area was nice. The A/C was a lifesaver.
The breakfast was lovely.
We were picked up from the sailing club by the owner, his boat was awesome
The smell of sewage outside our room.
No hot water in the shower
Got woken up at 6am by the sound of an angle grinder
Very nice place to chill, stuff is great, service is amaizing. They even had a di playing all day
Great staff, food, atmosphere, nature. If you stay at one of the suites, it's wonderful 3-star hotel experience. Other rooms would be more like 2 stars. Problem (in general in Colombia) is constant loud music in common area, particularly the bass-heavy reggaeton. But can ask for change, however the next day it's back.
We were surprised at how remote Tierra Bomba was despite being so close to Cartagena. This can be good if you don't want to do anything, bad if you want attractions. There are no cars on the island so you have to ride on the back of motorbikes to get anywhere. The nicest beach from the hotel is not walkable.
The hotel itself was very good. Beautiful views. The chef is excellent and will cook you anything you want. Felt like too many staff just hanging around at times when they could have been fixing up the place, clearing spider webs, etc.
Definitely go for one of the two suites - there is a marked difference between rooms.
Some very good positives, but also a few drawbacks to be prepared for both!
We spent three nights here in January and had the most relaxing time. It's a small hotel with less than 10 rooms but very comfortable and quiet. If you're looking to spend just a few days chilling out on Tierra Bomba then this would be the place.
Great hotel, with very friendly staff. Nice pool and outdoor area, and nearby the Blue Apple Beach House where you can hang out during the day.
In summary, we enjoyed ourselves but its not all great.
The good -
The patio/pool/views are excellent. There is no beach access but its a 4 minute walk to a decent, not crowded beach or you can walk in or jump off the boat launch. Only 10 rooms so its not crowed, unlike the blue apple which is a short walk away. We had the best room with the private ocean view with balcony. Its got a great covered patio, two lounge chairs and a little sitting area. It also has an all outdoor (private) bathroom and shower. The service was polite but...
The bad -
The service is super slow. Im talking 10 minutes to make 2 cocktails slow, however this seems to be pretty common in Colombia. Food can be over an hour. The wifi was very slow and really only worked near the bar. The free breakfast was slim and got wiped out the second morning so there was not much to eat. We had an iffy "for two" meal the second night. The staff dont speak any english.
The ugly -
There are no services on this island, so bring anything you want. If coming again Id bring a cooler and some big waters, along with some snacks. We walked in to the town and there is nothing there aside from a single restaurant one the beach serving one thing. There is a TV in the room with direct tv, but no channels. The room needs some maintenance. None of the wall lights worked when we checked in, so the maintenance guy came and
Pool with a nice view. Rooms with good AC.
Entry should be by boat if you want it nice.
