We stayed at the Malcolm Hotel in Canmore as a family of four (two adults and our 5- and 6-year-old daughters), and overall had a very enjoyable experience. Our stay was split across two bookings as we extended a wedding visit, which meant we stayed in two different rooms (215 and 320). One interesting observation was that the pet-friendly room (215) actually felt slightly larger with more usable floor space than the more expensive room we moved into. Not a huge difference, but noticeable when travelling with children and luggage.
The restaurant was a real highlight of our stay. We ate breakfast there each morning and were consistently impressed. The quality of the food was excellent and the portions were generous—so much so that we often didn’t feel the need for lunch. Although we only had dinner at the hotel as part of a wedding, the food served then was also very high quality. I can’t say whether it reflected the standard menu or a bespoke wedding offering, but it certainly left a good impression.
We also tried a few cocktails from the bar menu, which were well made and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend making use of the restaurant and
bar during your stay—even if just for breakfast.
The hotel facilities are good, with a pool and two hot tubs. They’re not especially large, but seemed adequate for the number of guests using them. Our girls loved the pool, and as it’s heated, it was great to be able to use it even in less-than-perfect weather. The hot tubs were also popular in the evenings.
While the hotel is child-friendly, I wouldn’t say it’s particularly designed with children in mind. Many guests seemed to be adults or couples looking for a relaxing stay, which sometimes made it a bit of a balancing act—keeping our children happy without feeling like we might disturb others.
Location-wise, it’s excellent. The hotel sits right by the river and is less than a 5-minute walk to Canmore’s main pedestrian area, making it a great base for exploring the tow

We were booked in for a group retreat and were very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It was beautiful and its location is stunning sandwiched between two creeks and walkways everywhere. The hotel is great and the staff was very friendly. Public areas are kept very clean, and there are pleasant, quiet areas to sit. The food was delicious and the dining areas were clean and pleasant. We were there for a work retreat and as such, we made use of the meeting rooms that were also very nice and very professionally laid out.
Location
A wonderful place at the foot of the mountains. The scenery is breathtaking, and the staff are wonderful. Nearby paths allow for easy walks and runs.
Stock).
Chose because of location in quiet area but the reality was quite different. Construction noise outside our window all day from 0730

Great view and clean
Small room and poor Customer service
Location good walking distance to downtown. Nice walk path around a pond. rooms small but clean. Meals expensive and optional sides for extra price.
Amazing food and service in the Sterling restaurant and bar. The decor throughout and the many amenities the hotel offers makes every stay incredible. Great pool and hot tubs, even better views.
Amazing location!! Pool area is a highlight for the Mountain View’s!! Caitlin is an amazing chef and her team were a delight. Having stayed in Canmore 7 times now, staying at the Malcolm was exceptional and I cannot wait to return! Thanks to all for making my stay outstanding.
Location to Canmore, the gym and pool area exceptional. The outside drinks terrace views and Chef Caitlin food!!
Gorgeous views, clean, comfy. The server who brought my glass of wine up and the gentleman who checked us out were great!
One of the check-in guest service workers should learn to mange their judgy facial expressions, that alone makes us not want to go back. I’ve had better treatment at a Best Western lol
The Hotel is a little overpriced; however, once we settled in, we really enjoyed our stay. The Dining experience is excellent, from Breakfast to dinner, and the Sunday Night prime rib buffet was five-star! Whoever is running the dining room and bar pays great attention to detail. Staff, food and the experience is excellent every time. Thank you!!
