Clean and comfortable accommodation in Mbale with lush gardens

A very pleasant overnight stay. Lovely room no. 31 at the top of the stairs, with a view of Mt Elgon and the gardens. Super comfy bed with mosquito nets and window mesh. Lovely bath and shower and a hairdryer! Super barman Geofrey - who introduced me to Ugandan gin. Nice pool, pool bar and garden service. Restaurant is good, a bit slow on the night because it was so busy. Breakfast was buffet style but good, with second best mandazi of our taste test. Lots of parking. Nice running route around Mbale and safe to run outside the hotel grounds. Golf course next door.

Avery nice hotel, with a planned Location that gives you the full clear view of Wanale Hill. So lovely, pretty food and friendly staffs that know there jobs. A memorable travel trip we had in mbale town and that made us to love Uganda at large 👌👌!!

Isiah and his team run their establishment brilliantly. Wycliff - the F & B manager is incredibly knowledgeable.

This hotel provides extremely poor customer care. My experience was very negative; I was treated disrespectfully and with great carelessness. The customer service is extremely lacking, with no regard for visitors and no respect shown whatsoever.

We return to this hotel annually for a conference and they always deliver superbly. Our delegates love the excellent food and customer care, the spa and the comfy beds. We look forward to returning in 2024!

This is my third time to stay at Mt. Elgon, and each time I visit, I find myself loving it more! The room was quite comfortable---a large king sized bed I shared with my roommate, Anne---with a full, private bathroom (shower, sink, toilet, lots of space to place amenities, a hairdryer). The shower had hot water and was very relaxing with a rain head and hand held wand.

The light coming in was glorious, and at night, the black out curtains worked terrific!

The fact that there is a free mini-golf course makes it super fun with friends! Two of us got holes in one, and it is NOT an easy course! But perfect for families, kids, teens and sporty adults like us! Next time I visit, I told the staff I would repaint the course free of charge because it does need to be freshened up. But the landscaping is really lovely and the sounds of birds makes it all feel so relaxing!

The bar takes a bit of time, but that's because there was only one guy behind the bar. Once they arrived, the drinks were refreshing AND I even asked for an espresso martini---so Peter, the bartender, wrote down the ingredients and made one just for me! MMMMMMmmmmmm. Try the Mt. Elgon Lemonade--yummy!

The food: A+ and free breakfast every morning!

I would put this hotel on the same level as a Hyatt---clean, comfortable, beautiful landscaping PLUS a powerful view of Mt. Elgon.

After several days of mission work 6 friends and I relaxed at this beautiful hotel. We enjoyed chatting at the bar and lounging outside. The rooms were large with comfortable beds and great amenities, we even had our extremely dirty sneakers cleaned overnight. The food was great and the buffet breakfast had endless options. Watching the sunrise with the view of Mt. Elgon was incredible! Highly recommend this location.

I enjoyed two nights with the helpful and friendly staff, great meals, delicious coffee and very peaceful nights of rest.

The staff at Mt Elgon hotel were very polite and helpful. The rooms were well decorated and furnished and very clean.
The food was very good especially the bread at breakfast. The owner was often seen around the hotel and eating in the restaurant.

I always visit Mount Elgon Hotel yearly when in Mbale. The staff are always polite and professional. The large sprawling gardens offer a beautiful place to relax and the food is always fresh and amazingly prepared.

Even with an experience where we lost our property, the manager Isaiah and the security officer at the hotel left no stone unturned in working towards restoring the lost items.

I look forward to visiting again.

N01°04.002', E034°11.685' The Mount Elgon hotel is in a quiet eastern suburb outside the city, surrounded by variant grounds and the Mbale Sports Club golf course. The interior is modern with a colonial twist, although maintenance is an ongoing issue for such a colonial building. Amenities include a sauna, Jacuzzi, swimming pool and mini golf.

In December 2022, room 16 on the first floor (2F) is spacious and quite plush, equipped with a modern split air-conditioning unit and a flat-screen TV. The double bed was clean and slept excellently. The shower was excellent, but Wi-Fi reception in the room was intermittent.

The quality of the hotel is reflected in the quality of the staff. The reception is very efficient and the waiters show their professional training. The first laundry service produced excellent results, but the second spilled bleach all over the cloths. Suddenly, no one took responsibility for this visible failure. A fierce negotiation over compensation was the result.

The hotel's top restaurant is popular with the general public, with an extensive menu of local, Indian and continental dishes. The Roots bar is well appointed, but the restaurant needs an interior to match the level of dining. Beautiful tablecloths and Italian cutlery. We ordered marinated grilled chops served with honey mustard sauce and fries (36,000sh) and coconut fish of boneless tilapia pieces cooked in coconut mild chilli sauce (36,000sh). The chops were perfectly grilled and the tilapia was flavourful. The chef knows how to prepare delicious dishes.

Mount Elgon hotel offers high-end accommodation and food is colonial setting. Highly recommended.

WOW, Had a lovely lovely meal at Mt Elgon. The service was superb and the meal, a beef fillet of steak was cooked to perfection (and it was large) and the sides and vegetables were amazing. The manager Wycliffe served us, and to our amazement, the General Manager came out and spoke to us. We received real VALU from staff and Management, and I would not hesitate to return. And I would recommend this venue for dinner.

I enjoyed my stay at the resort. The room was spacious and clean. The bed is comfortable and big. Have taken dinner at the restaurant 3 times and enjoyed all the meals. Can recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed at Mt Elgon Hotel for a week and my departure was packed with memories of an experience for, I would say, a life time . First the beautiful old building, lots of character, a depiction of true Uganda, no clutter in the rooms and no copying of Europe and Asia. This was a well planned hotel am told by the government and the mountain views are amazing.
The staff were wonderful, attention to details… all are fantastic, from the gate to the gardeners, to reception, to the staff in the Masaba restaurant, to the spa and swimming pool, are all fun and first rate. The chefs are great. I realized many diners in the restaurant and all looked happy and my meals were always great.
This hotel is amazing to look at inside (would love to know the history). Beautifully appointed rooms. Easy walking distance to everything.

The engaging managers and staff, hardworking and very ethical in dealing with people, were a huge part of the experience unequivocally my favorite place to stay in Mbale, if not in the whole part of the Eastern Uganda.

I will certainly recommend this true epitome of Ugandan hospitality!!!

Last week our group of 115 staff members from Village Enterprise spent 4 days at Mt. Elgon Hotel and Spa for our annual internal meeting - attendees comprised of employees from Uganda, Kenya, and North America. Mt. Elgon was the perfect meeting place for our team! The staff was incredible, the food delicious, and the facilities made our attendees feel very special while still being able to focus on the scheduled meetings. I would highly recommend Mt. Elgon to any group conducting business in Uganda, and hope to return again!

This is my fourth stay at Mt Elgon Hotel for a conference and again I was so hugely impressed by the attention to detail and personal kindness and friendliness of the whole team. The views of the mountain are outstanding and I hope to return soon.
