Embassey Suites Got It Right
Pros:

A very well maintained Hilton brand hotel; it's location on the northern end of the river walk made for a short walk to the heart of Wilmington's historic district. There is a parking fee, with the option of self parking or using the slightly more expensive valet parking. We used the valet and didn't experience any delays when requesting our vehicle. With a very friendly staff at the front desk, our check in went smoothly.
The first things we look at when we enter a hotel room is the lighting. A well lighted room reveals both the good and the bad of the cleanliness and quality. Our well lit room was flawless, and an added bonus of multiple electronic charging ports.
The free breakfast buffet offered a number food choices. You can also have a cooked to order omelette, which was a disorganized operation.
This is definitely our go to hotel during future stays in Wilmington.

Great stay on the riverfront

and the breakfast was delicious. Omelet was the best. Friendly courteous check in and out. View was excellent.

Not worth the money!

The gentleman who checked me in was great!

Cons:

The beds in room 606 were horrible. Too soft & I rolled into the middle. I woke up stiff every day. There was a funny smell and I woke up with a sinus headache, so I assume there is mold. The shower temperature was hard to regular. I ordered room service and the soup was luke warm, which was ok since they gave me a plastic spoon. I had dinner in the restaurant and the chair was full of crumbs, which the server let me brush off myself. The table was sticky from what appeared to be syrup spilled at breakfast and I squashed a bug. I expected more from a restaurant that was $20+ per meal. I will say order bread, it is excellent. The toast points were hard and burnt. To top everything off, I was billed $30 more then what was the receipt, so now I need to file a dispute. Lastly, I expected a nice patio facing the river, but the patio was small and faced condos, Fortunately, the building next door next had really comfy chairs that faced the water. So that was nice.

Pros:

The location was great and the staff was friendly.

Cons:

Housekeeping was substandard. The supplied conditioner was empty. After the second day, I had to call front desk. Our coffee and supplies were not refilled each day. The glasses were not replaced with fresh ones. Our breakfast dishes were left in the sink the entire stay. The only thing housekeeping did was empty our garbage cans each day.

More Than Expected.
Pros:

Wow, what a place. We stopped in after visiting the Battleship North Carolina. No reservation, but wasn't a problem at the time. Clerk was very friendly and helpful. Also let us know about a couple other sites to see nearby. Room was huge for what we paid. Very nice sleep. Room was clean and in good order. Breakfast was awesome. Would stay here again if in the area.
