Great location, well maintained, furnishings reflecting traditional Pakistani culture, great restaurants at site
Access to the hotel may be impacted if/ when delegations are coming
Nothing
Worst experience of life dealing with high star hotel. Didn't communicate that roads and access are closed that day. Even after making 4 calls to customer service, no one guided properly how to reach hotel.
The facilities
Considering Serena's reputation as one of the premier hotels not only in Islamabad but in Pakistan, I expected a level of service that matched its standing. Unfortunately, my experience fell well short of those expectations. While I wouldn't describe it as a bad stay, the service felt more in line with that of a good three-star hotel rather than a property that positions itself among the country's finest.
The issues began even before I arrived. Due to a payment issue with Booking.com, I requested to confirm my reservation via bank transfer. Surprisingly, it took well over a dozen phone calls just to get someone to accept payment and confirm my booking. Having to repeatedly request a hotel to take payment from a guest is not the impression one expects from a luxury establishment.
Throughout my stay, almost every request required multiple follow-ups. Housekeeping did not make up the room without repeated reminders. When I requested urgent ironing for an outfit, I was initially told it would take two hours. Even then, the staff came to collect the clothes only after multiple reminders, making the process far more frustrating than it needed to be.
What stood out most was the general attitude towards guest requests. The initial response was often "no" or "it can't be done," even for simple requests. For example, I asked for a cup of coffee while sitting in the lobby early in the morning and was told it wasn't possible and that I should return to my room to order it. Ironically, the waiter was willing to serve it, while the manager insisted it couldn't be done.
I raised these concerns with two different managers during my stay, hoping at least for some acknowledgment or effort to improve the experience. Unfortunately, nothing was done to address the issues or make up for the inconvenience.
The hotel itself is beautiful, but service is what defines a luxury property.
The hotel is very well located
This hotel is very expensive, but it offers neither good service nor high-quality food.
Excellent
Nothing
Good property
Carpets were very dirty and smelly
One of the best facilities in Islamabad. Loads of complementary stuff to enjoy and make you feel at home
F&B could have more focused taste towards local cuisine meaning that local cuisine options are more neutral to suit international guests
Does Serena hotel has all of the incredible amenities of a high-end hotel. The gym is among the best hotel gyms I’ve ever seen. The food is also great. There’s something for everyone here.
I have been a Trip leader bringing international groups to pakistan for the last 10 years and I must say this was the reception desk staff and the woman in particular who checked us in wins the award for the worst experience I’ve ever had checking into a hotel. The whole process took one and a half hours - just to get our room keys!! The Hunza woman checking us in seemed to have no idea what she was doing. I made this reservation six months ago, listed all of my clients in the room pairing list, but she did not seem to have any information, and it took around 45 minutes just to get my first room key!! my clients and I had just traveled from Skardu and were tired and just wanting to relax in our room. The incompetency of the receptionist was truly incredible and something I have not witnessed it any other hotel during my decade of travel around the world.
Even as I kept trying to ask what was going on, she was just constantly distracted. She answered the phone and kept making calls probably 20 calls over the course of one hour and a half. For my side, there should be nothing strange since the booking was done, confirmed and paid for. And actually, there was no issue with the reservation so this whole experience was super confusing and a shocking first impression of this so-called high-end hotel. I hope the Serena management sees this and takes appropriate action to train their staff properly on check-in procedures - this whole experience really took away from the stay I had at this otherwise incredible hotel.
