We weren’t expecting much, just a basic room as Villach was just a stopover for us not a place we intended to spend a lot of time. The room was damp and had a musty smell. It’s probably better in the nice weather when you can open the side door and sit outside or go for a swim (the pool was full of leaves and flowers that needed to be cleaned out).
I love staying at classic historic hotels and this location can't be beat. It's located across the street from the Central Train Station and Starbucks for you coffee snobs. Our room was spacious and perfectly decorated, the bathroom is updated with new style tile and amenities. Our room rate included buffet breakfast that was located next to the beautiful classic bar area, plenty of good food to choose from. The hotel retains its historic elegance and they were filming a classic 1920's movie in the lobby area while we were staying there.
This was a last minute booking, and it was a great price for what I got.
It is a youth hostel, so be prepared for kids.. Manager was very helpful and gave me some great tips for my travels
But for the price- why not..
This is a pretty expensive hostel (it is not a hotel), and Wi-Fi is literally non-existent. I complained about the wireless every day (as a foireigner you have to know where to go and what to do), and the lack of wireless made my stay in Villach a complete disaster. I had to go around coffee shops and gas stations in order to get a Wi-Fi signal. I'm totally not going there ever again. My room was on ground floor and basically when you open the terrace door, you are already outside the building; no balcony railing whatsoever, and the terrace is the same level as the garden in front of the building. Anyone could break in and take your things while you are away. There is an outdoor pool but we did not use it as it was pretty cold. Anyway....stay away from this place if you really want to enjoy your vacation. It's so not worth annoyance and frustration.
I don't not what is the official difference between hotels, motels or hostels but I have stayed in a nicer motels and hostels than this one. The rooms and surroundings are pretty much crappy. We had room in the first floor facing the cortyard and people were keeping us up till very very late. Breakfast were as poor as the rest of the hotel. I understand that this is a cheap hotel, but we just wanted to leave, fast. I guess if you have a classroom of kids or a team of football boys, this will work fine.
We stayed in a four bunk room it was functional and clean if a bit dated, the bar and restaurant are functional and competive, and the food very good, The grounds are a bit tatty but there is a nice pool and a shaded outdoor seating area as well as a terrace outside the bar. The staff were friendly and very helpful and made our stay pleasant. Eggar represent real value in an expensive area, but it is not a place to linger for the day, if you are out and about doing things its fine, 30 mins walk to Villach Station and the City Centre, where in the summer you can enjoy good food and local beer in the Brauhaus Beergarden behind the church. Eggar would not have been my first choice but i was very pleasantly surprised.
