We didn't expect much but this hotel gave us so much to remember for our first trip to the Austrian lake district.
We traveled with our little one and his extra cot was already made when we checked in. The room was small but very functional. They could have charged a hefty premium for the view alone.
We booked half board and both breakfast and dinner buffets were greatly appreciated. Limited selections, but no lacking on fresh ingredients, and each day the soup and proteins were delicious. Food presentation was very thoughtful too. I'm not vegetarian but I'd gladly eat a little bit from the veggie selections each day and not felt the need for any other food.
We also used their laundry service and paid to get late check-out - both were life savers and charged very reasonably.
The location is never more than 50 mins and usually 20 mins drive to most tourist attractions in the lake district. Even if you do not travel to the touristsy places, a nice stroll in the surrounding area can also give you the same relaxing experience you long for in an Alpine vacation.
They also have a kid's play room, a gym, a shop which sells and rents outdoor equipments. We didn't use those but thought it very nice to have them.
North American hotels should feel pretty short if put next to a hotel like this one. The overall experience and value was so great that we wish to come back. That's a first for us.
There were many flies in the dining room. One or more of that many flies must certainly have landed on the food display at some point. No one seemed to care.
It's a reasonably modern place, probably the biggest hotel in Gosau. The location is central to activities.
Reception gave us wrist bands to signal the restaurant that we're paying there instead of having it included in the room package (which could also easily communicated with staff verbally if they spoke proper German or English). They didn't mention that once you put them on you can't get them off again without scissors, so we all found ourselves trapped in those unnecessary tags within a minute. It particularly got dangerous when our child put them on and almost strangled itself, leading us to rush to the reception to cut it off. When I pay for a seemingly premium appartement I don't want to feel like a tagged cow, being forced to sleep with a scratchy metal wristband like I'm on a music festival. That's absolutely inacceptable and dangerous.
Other than that, our beds were not made, linens just stacked folded on the beds.
All staff that we came across were foreigners with quite limited German and English skills.
Restaurant food was mediocre, mall food court level, nothing I'd recommend, given the heaps of very high quality restaurant options around.
Lacks attention to detail. Slightly damaged walls, not perfectly clean rooms, missing coffee and tea essentials like sugar even though a coffee machine is provided, electric window remotes incompletely programmed, etc.

An absolutely exceptional location in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. We had a wonderful view of the mountains directly from our room. The beds were comfortable and the room was perfect for our needs.
The food was probably the best I have ever had in a hotel. Excellent and generous breakfasts, and truly luxurious dinners with a great selection of salads, fruit and vegetables. Everything was delicious.
The location is ideal for trips by bike directly from the hotel, as well as for hiking to Gosausee. Krippenstein and Hallstatt are also easily accessible.

This is an ideal hotel for families with children, so be prepared for a livelier atmosphere. And just for fun – I suspected my kids’ shoes were causing a strange smell, but it turned out to be the flowers on the balcony! 😃
