Stayed here with my partner for 2 weeks over Christmas and new year it suited us as we were meeting up with family who live over there there’s no bar restraint or entertainment etc but is centrally located so everything is nearby our unit 14 was on the ground floor with terrace to the front with garden view close to the pool and balcony to the back with sea view can see the cruise ships coming in the apartment itself was comfy enough but could. Do with some updating as it was very dated and tired the cleaning service (extra charge) was very good all staff were very helpful and friendly overall we had a good stay and would stay here again
Stayed here for 8 nights. It looks good from the outside, but inside the units are tired and in need of a refurb. I stayed in Apt 9, it was clean and faced the beach. The furniture and fitments have seen better days, but the bed was reasonable and I got a good sleep. I was only using it as a base, spending my time with local friends so it was adequate. AC only in the bedroom, none in the living area.
Staff were helpful and friendly, especially the cleaning crew, who were in every day. Security were very polite.
It's situated locally right opposite Ocean's 11 on one side, the beach and quay to the rear, so its not the quietest place to stay.
it suited my needs and I would use it again.
This place is run and managed to a high standard. Clean and well kept. Good security at the gate. Workmen on site always busy cleaning. Opposite is ocean 11 the perfect tourist spot on a Tuesday evening
Stayed at FP many times over the years. Well run complex managed by Ms B. Nice and calm environment. Clean and well Kemp. Close to margaritaville and ocean 11. Close to the beach and town. Security at the gate.
My husband and I stayed for almost two weeks and the place was great, grounds was clean and well kept. Security staff was polite, courteous and helpful. The beach was right outside and everything was in walking distance and all restaurants were in walking or short drive.
This booking is great if you’re looking for somewhere comfortable to sleep but not for something super luxurious. It’s centrally located, very near (less than 2-4 minutes) to the beach, movie theater, Margaritaville and the Fishing Village where you can go to eat at one of the several restaurants there, if you’re looking for seafood.
The front desk also provided us with a free pass for the entire family to visit Ocho Rios Bay Beach which is the popular beach in the middle of Ocho Rios town.
The room itself is okay, it’s not fancy by any means but it is comfortable with AC, Wifi, Fans & Cable and a lovely view of the beach and the sea from your balcony. In total there were 4 beds — 2 doubles, 1 Queen/King? and an extra double bed in the loft inside the rooms with the 2 double beds. The front desk staff were also very kind and helpful if you had any issues/questions.
Some of the lights inside the apartment don’t work and the hot water wasn’t working in one of the bathrooms in the apartment that I had. There are also two flights of winding stairs to climb to get to the 3rd floor where the bedrooms are, so I wouldn’t recommend for an elderly person.
All in all, its not fancy but it was comfortable and clean and if you’re planning to spend most of your stay doing activities and just need somewhere suitable and affordable to sleep then this would definitely be a viable option.
I shared unit 39 with a friend for 5 days and 4 nights and it was the worst stay in Jamaica ever. The AC in the master bedroom did not at all, the water pressure was so slow we took gallon bottles of water to the shower to rinse off with. On day 3 we heard a pop and the refrigerator and electrical on one side of the kitchen stopped working. The place is run down with extension cords running everywhere and you could clearly see wood rot and something that looked like mold on both doors on the second level balconies. The furniture was old and dirty. This owner needs to totally gut this unit and stop renting it, I was so concerned about the electrical I turned off the breaker to the stove. I have included pictures so you can see what you're getting if you rent unit 39.
If you're looking for a cost-effective option for a short stay in Jamaica, this is a good one. You can book directly with the property, through Sunwings, or AirBNB. GalaTravels.com helped me book with Agoda.
The staff was friendly and VERY helpful and accommodating.
LOCATION
The location is central and in easy walking distance to all attractions, shopping, and restaurants. You have access to the biggest beach in Ocho Rios which is just steps away.
ROOM
The Ritz it isn't so don't expect luxury or super modern amenities.
There are some signs of wear like a tile missing on the side of the bathtub and some staining perhaps from a leak over the dining area. It was nothing too bothersome.
The couple that cleans the room did an excellent job.
The room was basic with a small verandah, large bedroom, good sized living-dining/room, and a kitchenette with fridge, stove, and microwave.
If you are on a budget, pick up patties at Juici Beef Patties, chicken at the Jerk Centre (or ask the driver to stop at Scotchies on the way from the airport). A KFC is nearby.
The apartments have pots, pans, cutlery, and dishes. You can pick up groceries from the supermarket and do your own cooking.
Other Pointers:
The rooms managed by the resort face Ocean's 11 Watering Hole beside the Island Village Shopping Centre.
Especially on the weekend, there is fabulous music well into the night. If you want something quieter, book a privately owned apartment facing the beach.
This is a nice place but have issues with not cleaned properly. To hot at night time do to no air in living room. False advertisement on washer on site and a free 2 hour cell phone. I probably wouldn't stay again do to these issues. The bed had 2 twin size hard mattress on top of a king box spring. Very uncomfortable. Had a water leak in bathroom every time i take a shower i had to wipe up water.
Stayed at 12a Fisherman's point from 21st Jan-30th 2019
Apartment was lovely, clean. Modern and welcoming. Modern TVs in lounge and in on-suite bedroom with great channels, plenty of towels, also Good wifi. Good housekeeping. Located on the beach right where the ships come into port. Host very pleasant and easy to reach. Will stay again.
Clean modern appliances large rooms hot water near shopping beautiful views.
My friend and family went to Fisherman Point for a late lunch. So surprised to see it has been transformed into a resort type area with seafood restsurants galore, gift shops and bars. Clean toilet facilities, generally a much cleaner and modern look. Our food was excellent and soo tasty. Lobster dish was scrumptious and the steam fish with various vegetables was mouth watering, very worthy meal.
Stayed at fisherman point a few times earlier in the year, the apartments we first had then weren’t that great! However the last time in July stayed there the apartment that time was beautiful. Staff were brilliant.
Fisherman’s Point Apartments, Room 58, Ocho Rios, Jamaica
1. Nice looking building – well-maintained, although could use some general cleaning around the windows and balconies, and closets
2. Good area – 10 minute walk to beach, boat dock in front of building
3. 3 Story-Walk up - a bit difficult with heavy luggage
4. Keys obtained from security guard at gate not front desk
5. Apartment is very hot, did not drop below 80 (26 C) went up to 85 (29) at times
6. Limited AC only in Bedroom, although the description shows AC in living area also
7. Apartment is not sealed, so hot air, noise and bugs may come thru, also the little cold air escapes thru the wooden louvers in the bedroom and from the BR to the living room.
8. Kitchen is small, stove is right next to sink so there is some splash from the sink
9. Bathroom is spacious, however door lock gets stuck at times
10. TV's did not pick up any service
11. No Wifi
12. Fully stocked with utensils, cutlery, pots, pans, broom, dustpan
13. LR fan very slow
14. Warm water available at the flip of a switch inside kitchen (not outside as instruction card says)
15. Microwave and Fridge worked well
Excellent customer service, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The place was clean and well kept, splendid view if the caribbean sea. The facility is well groomed and is in close proximity to the central town.
It was actually our second time staying there and we should have learned. It's actually in a great location and are individually owned but ran by a management company. The staff is not bad but the general manger doesn't have any managerial skills. Units need some serious updating when it comes to furniture and other basic needs. Either the owners are too cheap to upgrade or the manager does not inform them on the condition of the units. Right across the street from Margaretville and within walking distance of restaurants and stores. They just in need of renovations. Spend your money elsewhere, or splurge on and all inclusive..
Just returned from a 10 night stay at Fisherman's Point.
The accommodation is very basic and is in serious need of an update. The water pressure in the bathroom was pretty bad, making it difficult to have a decent shower, and the towels are rough enough to exfoliate your skin Beds are small doubles. However the rooms are extremely clean and the reception staff were very friendly and polite.
There is a small convenience store on the conplex which is pricey, but handy!
Beware though that wifi is only available in the lobby area, and not throughout the whole complex, as claimed by some holiday providers
Location is excellent, but with a nighclub backing on to the complex, it can be a bit noisy in some parts of the property , especially if you are not a party animal. LOUD Music until 4 am on Saturdays.
Nice places nearby for a cheap Jamaican breakfast in the morning. This was very substantial and kept you going well past lunch time. Atmosphere on the beech was very nice with and we got to know some great locals.
We stayed for 2 weeks in apartment 66 which is on the 4th floor with step stairs. It was ok but wouldn´t stay there again. It is private own so the hotel and reception has nothing to do with it.
We only got one pair of keys which made it tricky for us as my company was working while we were there, so the only way to be free was to leave the key with the security before leaving which worked well until the security one day refused to give us the key. Luckily the owner was near by and gave it to us but i was scared to leave the apartment after that which ruined my last days in Ochi.
The bathroom needs a plumber as the toilet seat is loose and there is not much hot water coming from the shower and most of the water doesn´t even come through the shower handle but goes straight down the drain at feet level.
Never once during these 2 weeks did we get clean sheets and towels, even though there was a pair of change i would have enjoyed to have clean sheets and towels my on my last days.
Oh there is no wifi, no toilet paper, no soap or nothing to clean the kitchen so come prepared.
The equipment in the kichen is poor.
The place is also really dirty with dirty windows, spider net, dirty floor showing under the stove and fridge, dirty joineries and spidernet.
+ PROS:
Good location
Sunny balcony (around 2PM)
- CONS:
The place is out of date and needs some attention regarding piping, furnitures and cleaning.
No Wi-Fi
Only one key
No laundry for sheets
I’ve stayed two times at Fishermans Point in the same condo. All of them are different and some are privately owned. The one I rent is on booking.com. It has two patios that face the sea, super clean, updated bathroom. The grounds are nothing fancy but you have the beach right there, walking distance to nightlife, restaurants and grocery store. Easy to go on excursions from there.
I traveled there alone as a woman and felt pretty safe there. (As always anywhere you go be aware of your surroundings)
Clean and tidy and o.k for a few nights stay. I was on the ground floor and felt that the lock on our front door was really insufficient so we asked for a key for the in room safe. They couldn't find it but were kind enough to let us use the reception safe as no other guest was using it so we could hold the key to it.
What's great is that it is close to all the action - Margaritaville / Island Village etc
Ideal for a group of friends wanting to keep costs down. Pool area was clean and tidy too.
