Decor and ambiance are very beautiful. There were some interesting limitations however like no readily accessible microwave and ice machines limited to certain floors
I was never more insulted - imagine being at a. 4+ star hotel, paying $300+ a night and having to RENT a microwave. For everything I enjoyed at this location that lack of accommodation gobsmacked me.
This is the first 4 star+ hotel I’ve patronized that doesn’t have concierge service. It’s also pretty striking given that there are usually 2-3 staff members standing in the lobby. The day I checked out, I struggled getting through traffic in the lobby and eventually to the door (automated buttons weren’t working). Imagine my surprise when a staff member literally ran after me “excuse me?! Your shoes are really dope! Are those the new (X brand)?” I gave a quick thanks and proceeded with my departure.
The room was not properly cleaned. I had used napkins in the bed. When I call concierge i was told there were no staff to accommodate me. They switch my room to another dirty room.
The cleanliness and staff.
A very nice hotel, and the staff are extremely kind and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I stayed there week after week until my stay extended to more than a month. Thank you to everyone.
Hope cleaning service improve
The rooms were very clean and nice, was disappointed that there wasn’t a bath tub.
The staff was great with the exception of a staff member that worked overnight. She was extremely rude . I along with 3 other couples booked rooms for New Year’s Eve,we sat in the lobby it was very quite and nice but the staff member turned off the lights and fireplace so we were sitting in the dark. . I was so embarrassed because I
encouraged my friends and their spouses to come to the hotel. I wanted to do a review with my daughter who has a huge social media following but the one employee ruined the whole experience.
Celebrated our 12th anniversary here. The Sophy is a living exhibit of works by local visual artists, writers and musicians. Nice jazz trio in the lounge the night we arrived. Aesthetically pleasing. Comforting. Staff make the real difference; wish we could recall every name. Thank you Sam, Precious, Chris, Nicholette, and all who spoiled us in the Mesler kitchen, bar and lounge. Special thanks to the Chef for creating delicious and gorgeous foods and the best vanilla ice cream we ever had.
This hotel was AMAZING! The level of service, accommodation, and care from Chris and the crew was top notch. Walking in, you can feel the great vibes and soul of Hyde Park. The room was gorgeous, clean, and the turndown service always took great care of us. Chris was able to answer any and all questions we had with a smile. Only a short walk to the Metra, it was so easy to get downtown and back in a matter of minutes. We could not be happier with the experience and will most definitely be returning again.
The hotel was beautiful, and I particularly loved the artwork by local artists displayed in the room. The staff was exceptional—Chris at the front desk was especially helpful, kind, and professional. Our room was spectacular, from the thoughtful design to every detail.
I needed a quick stay for business and Zach was very helpful in getting me situated (5⭐️). I was also able to try the Mesler which was very good!!
This was a great spot to watch the Bears game. The bartender Billy was amazing and attentive. Drinks were flowing and tasty. We had the Autumn Sonata and Midway Crescendo. This will be my spot for games from now on. The als had the Beet salad, calamari, wings and burger. So good.
Great bar and restaurant with an inviting atmosphere and a really enjoyable vibe. The service was friendly and attentive without feeling overbearing, which made the experience even better. I ordered the Autumn Somata, and it was absolutely great—well balanced, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can tell thought went into the drink, from the presentation to the way the flavors came together. The space itself is comfortable and welcoming, making it a nice spot to relax, catch up with friends, or enjoy a casual night out. Overall, this is a place I’d happily return to, especially for the drinks. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.
Billy was an outstanding bartender! Even during a packed Bears game rush, he made sure we were taken care of while sitting at the bar. He handled the pressure with ease, stayed patient, and never let the chaos affect his service. Super personable, attentive, and professional — exactly the kind of bartender you hope for on game day. We’ll definitely be back because of him! Try the Autumn Sonata!
As a woman traveling alone, being forced to navigate the property or external lots late at night is a significant safety concern. I’ve stayed at the Sophy several times and this was never an issue. If safety is a priority for you, rethink staying of parking on hotel lot is not available. If not, be prepared to park two blocks away or on the street. Not a good look for hotel.
Always thee most excellent hotel in Hyde Park. The adjacent bar/restaurant MESLER is a gem. Maurice (bartender) is the best! Been here more than 2 dozen times & he's always more than professional & friendly. Do him a joking solid & say "Kevin Durant referred me." 😂🏀
From the moment I arrived to check in at Sophy Hyde Park, I felt surrounded by art and graciousness. This is a beautiful boutique hotel! It was my second stay, and it once again exceeded my expectations- the artwork throughout the hotel is gorgeous and the rooms are comfortable and spotless. I received warm and friendly assistance from Zach, Muntu and Nicolette during my stay. Requests were handled promptly with courtesy. The location is very convenient to walk to nearby restaurants and stores. The Mesler in the lobby is a must try for at least one meal and or drinks while there! Definitely will stay here again!
The hotel has great ambiance. It is in a great location for visiting university of Chicago. The front desk staff was super pleasant. Sam in particular was great. We chatted a lot about football. The other Front Desk woman was also super nice and helpful overall great experience.
