The hotel I'm sure would have been fine, had Expedia not screwed up my booking. I ended up paying for a hotel I never stayed in. Expedia is the worst!
It is locayed in the heart of Ulan Udee. They have very good restaurant and local kitchen. They have very small bathrooms. Free wifi and parking available. While you are making reservation buy from internet. It is almost half price.
2 nights here chosen and booked by our Trans Manchurian train agent. Very helpful English speaking staff who went out of their way to help. Very clean, and very central. Superb wifi. Breakfast slightly odd set up in a banquet hall with seemingly odd Luke warm food choices, but served its purpose.
Stayed here two nights for a break from the Trans-Siberia train. It’s an older, Stalinist hotel, which was refurbished a number of years ago. Carpets and wallpaper starting to show its age. Hallways and common areas have the ambience of a Stalinist style hotel, endless, gloomy hallways.
Room comfortable and a good size, bathroom clean and functional. Breakfast buffet mostly Russian and Central Asian style items. Receptionists friendly, helpful and spoke good English (compared to my Russian.). All in all, a fine hotel for 1-2 nights. Not a destination item.
We spent 4 nights at this hotel recently and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We arrived early in the morning off the Trans Siberian railway. Not all the staff on reception spoke English but enough that someone could help us and he was very happy to find space for us to leave our luggage until our room was ready. When we returned to check in, everyone was again helpful and we were shown to our room. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The location of the hotel is excellent - it is very easy to walk to all the sites and there are plenty of cafes/restaurants close by. If you are travelling on the Trans Siberian and need to buy provisions for on the train, there is also a supermarket very close. The breakfast in the hotel was excellent - a good choice of dishes and everything was kept well stocked. We also ate in the hotel restaurant and had coffee in the lounge. Again these were both excellent and everyone was so helpful. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
Had a very pleasant two-night stay. The hotel is located in the prime area of the town, facing the Soviet Squire. Opera House is right across the street and the History Museum is a mere 5 minutes walk away. The famous pedestrian street Arbat is also within 10 minutes walk to the south. I arrived at Ulan-Ude by train and it was a good 30-minute walk to the hotel.
This hotel seems to have accommodated lots of famous Russian political figures like President Putin and PM Medvedev and you can see lots of those pics in the lift hall. I liked the classic atmosphere of this hotel. The room is of decent size with very high ceiling.
The room service is delivered from the restaurant in the basement which is ranked No1 in Trip Advisor. Very reasonably priced and lots of local cuisines to choose from.
Staff were all courteous and attentive with good command of English. Highly recommend Baikal Plaza to anyone visiting Ulan-Ude !
Comfortable hotel with excellent facilities and very clean, in a great location. Happy to recommend, except for the breakfast where the bread and pastries were stale! In Russia!!! We loved Ulan Ude though.
We were given a room in the 4th floor where there is no elevator. It's a bit of long walk from 3rd floor to get to 4th floor. The room didn't have a good view. However, the hotel is in very good central location has decent breakfast.
Centrally located, pretty much next to the oversized head of Lenin and a good starting point to stroll trhough the Lenin avenue in the city centre. Rooms are clean, staff is helpful and there is nothing to be disliked about he place. The added value is the hotel restaurant serving high quality dinner.
Very centrally located! Since Ulan Ude Train Station is quite remote, it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the hotel from the station.
Our room was the cheapest one on 4F without elevator access so we had to get of an elevator at 3F, walked the long corridor and then climbed the stairs to our room but that was not a problem for us. The room was spacious, clean and cozy.
There was a water server on every floor.
Breakfast was good with some local dishes.
My friend & I were alarmed to arrive and find nobody seemed to speak English but that was only a temporary setback. This is a very clean hotel with nice rooms and a very convenient central location with easy access to the bus station. It was good value for money and a most welcome break after four nights on a train.
I stayed here recently with a large group of friends. The hotel is central and opposite the Square. The rooms are clean and of a reasonable standard. The reception staff are very helpful, efficient and friendly, and leading up to our stay helped with our arrangements. There's are large secured car park at the rear of the premises with a security guard. Across from the hotel there are a number of places to eat and there is shopping nearby, (turn right out of the hotel, first right and then it's on the right and about a 5 minute walk). We arrived very late one night and arranged for dinner for 17 of us at 10.30pm, which show their commitment to looking after you. They even arranged packed lunches for our departure journey. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend the hotel to friends.
I stayed at Baikal Plaza Hotel with two friends. We all stayed in one room and rented a rollaway bed for me. The room was well-equipped with all of the essentials (tea kettle, toiletries, etc.). It is a beautiful old hotel, but it was under some reconstruction while we were there. Something to consider during a spring/summer stay is that it was extremely hot because the air conditioner wasn't working, and we couldn't leave the window open because of mosquitoes (no screen).
Lovely old world 4 roomed suite.Somewhat tired but very clean.Down stair cafe is first class but no English to place prder.beautiful Tuyana came across for each meal in our 3 days stay to place order.Staff makes hotels.Such is class here
It has splendid dinning room not expensive very stylish. This hotel has the best receptionist in Russia came each day at each meal for three days and helped us to find the correct food.Rooms excellent and suites magnificent .Weakness somewhat tired looking unless you like old world
Good hotel, centrally located with a lovely on-site restaurant. We've stayed here for one night only, no complaints as the services we used were limited. Room was clean, a bit on the small side, but otherwise everything was okay.
I stayed 2 nights in this centrally located modern hotel that had a grand marble staircase and no lift. The room was compact and clean as was the very clean bathroom.Plenty of hot water.WIFI and a buffet breakfast. The reception staff were delightful and spoke English.
