Gut gelegenes Hotel
Pros:

Die zentrale Lage ist sehr gut. Leider war der hoteleigene Parkplatz bei unserer Anreise voll belegt. Wir sind mit zwei Motorrädern angereist und wollten unser Gepäck im Hotel abstellen, bevor wir im nahegelegenen Parkhaus die Motorräder abstellen. Eine Vorfahrt war leider nicht möglich, da die Promenade gesperrt/nicht zu befahren war. Ebenso ist die Anfahrt hinter dem Hotel nur teilweise möglich, da die restlichen 10-20 Meter mit dem Verbot der Durchfahrt belegt ist. Dieser Hinweis wäre in der Beschreibung schön.
Das Frühstück war gut und das Personal sehr flott mit dem Abräumen des Geschirrs.

Нет кондиционера. Паркинг платный около 25 евро за ночь далеко от отеля. Бассейн оказалось тоже платный и не включён в стоимость проживания. Персонал на рецепции слабо владеет английским и недружелюбный.

The terrifying Astoria Hotel in Karlovy Vary
Pros:

My wife and I stayed at the Astoria Hotel in early July 2026, and we had a disastrous experience. The hotel's guest rooms are not thermally insulated or equipped with climate control. Judging by the condition, the window in our room was probably installed back when Karlovy Vary was the Austrian Carlsbad, before the First World War (photo attached). There's no climate control in the room. As a result, the hotel gives its guests the choice between suffering heatstroke, breathing heavily from the stale air, or listening to the city's nightlife through the wide-open window. Given the window's ancient condition, it is unlikely to provide sound insulation. We chose to listen to the nightlife through an open window. With the city's nightlife dying down a bit by 04:00 and the first trucks arriving and unloading groceries at 06:00, we were close to hallucinations by the time we reached the end of our hotel stay. The lack of thermal insulation at the Astoria Hotel violates the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (Directive (EU) 2023/1791). The hotel administration explains the lack of climate control by noting that the Astoria Hotel building is a historic monument and that they cannot install a climate-control system. I can't believe the Astoria Hotel administration is so lazy that they can't verify information online. The search query "What are the options for installing climate control systems in buildings designated as historical monuments?" returns many options for installing climate control systems in historic buildings, including Small-Duct High-Velocity (SDHV) Systems, Ductless Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF), and Invisible/Through-the-Wall Monoblocks. Most likely, the management of the Astoria Hotel ignores the elementary life requirements of its clients. I can't believe the Astoria Hotel rooms could be officially certified as four-star. These self-proclaimed four stars are probably a marketing ploy to deceive customers. In the EU, including the Czech Republic, official hotel ratings are standardised by the Hotelstars Union, which has no information on the Astoria Hotel, thereby confirming the likelihood that the hotel's self-proclamation of a four-star rating is unfounded.
I categorically do not recommend the Astoria Hotel for people who don't like heat strokes due to the lack of climate control, two or three hours of sleep due to the lack of soundproofing, and the potential for deception by the administration.
