It feels like the entire operation is built around squeezing money out of Western guests rather than offering genuine hospitality.
In Peru, you cannot drink tap water. When we arrived, there was not a single complimentary bottle of water in the room. We had no choice but to buy water from the hotel at 10 soles for half a liter, which is the same price you would pay in Times Square. This felt deliberate, especially since guests have no alternative.
There were no towels at the pool; The gym had no water at all, - another excuse to limit access and push people to spend more money on water.
The spa situation was also misleading. When booking, it gives the clear impression that spa access, including the sauna, is included. Only after arrival were we told there is an additional charge of 10 soles per person per day. I had to contact Hotels.com to request a partial refund.
When my kids were sitting in the jacuzzi, staff repeatedly came over to shut off the hot water. At breakfast, the watermelon juice tasted old, yet the same juice was served again the following day.
On top of all this, when you check in, you are warned that if you lose your room key you will be charged 10 soles per key. This is presented almost like a threat. No reputable hotel would handle things this way, and the cost to replace a key is minimal. Again, it feels like another attempt to squeeze money out of guests.
That said, the staff themselves were polite and respectful.
The hotel was clean, the swimming pool was warm, and the staff was very cordial and diligent. The restaurant offered excellent food and a variety of options.
Great staff.
The various staff members were friendly, accommodating and patient with our broken Spanish! I would definitely return on future trips!
Special scenic sacred Valley hotel jn Precious Peru has a beautiful bright and airy circular atrium filled with verdant green plants. The rooms are large although somewhat dated. Hotel serves the usual spread of hot and cold breakfast dishes. There are teabags near the front desk to make a cuppa to ward off the cold. As I was in a tour group, I did not not luxury of time to explore the hotel amenities.
The room is spacious and includes a kitchen, but the kitchen isn’t very clean. While the location is not convenient, it’s helpful that Uber is available in the area.
Beautiful new hotel on the way to Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. Pulled off the dusty, windy road and walked into a sanctuary of calming music, friendly staff and a place with great energy. We took advantage of the great food, pool, foosball table, ping pong and the small gym then the next morning we walked around the big grounds to the west where apparently great things are under construction.
They permitted us to bring our dog which was great and made our weekend very relaxing since we did't have to leave her behind. The circular walkway to the top of the hotel was great for getting a lot of walking in since I didn't feel comfortable walking on the very busy road. We had a Jr Suite with a jacuzzi that was very nice with a great view of the frog mountain in front.
A huge buffet lunch is served daily for guests and the tour buses that was excellent!
There's just something about the Sacred Valley that I love with the great air and mountains. Ollantaytambo is only 15 min away so it is easy to get there if you want to eat out, hike, enjoy the oldness of it or catch your train to Machu Picchu. Definitely will be going back to the Life Hotel for a getaway.
There is a 24 hr clinic attached to the hotel that appears to service guests as well as the community.
Excelent stay! Clean, beautiful and friendly. It was wonderful to be there. The room was very nice, the food in the breakfast and dinner was delicious. The massage at the spa was very relaxing. Me and my wife loved to be in the hotel. Very nice choice.
This was a great hotel for our vacation! First off, the staff was very accommodating and very nice to us. We had a problem with our hot water the first night and the staff jumped on the issue and put us in another room and insured we had hot water. It was a little cold that night and they hooked us up with an extra space heater that kept our room toasty the whole stay.
The food in the restaurant was really fresh and the steak was made perfectly. We were all very impressed with the food!! The free breakfast was also delicious and they even made my eggs to order!
The most impressive “above and beyond” moment, though, was when we were leaving. While packing our rental car we noticed a tire was flat. Luckily the car came with a spare but the flat tire was stuck on the car. We were going to have to wait hours to get help. The hotel staff brought over a hotel maintenance worker who was able to free the tire and put our spare on for us. It truly saved losing a whole day of vacation and I was so grateful.
This above and beyond service is what you hope for in a vacation and they delivered. Thank you so much for the hospitality!
First the good stuff: nice lobby and reception area, pleasant room with comfortable bed. Now the not so good: room was really cold woke several times during night due to the cold temperature in room, swimming pool freezing cold and didn’t look clean, hot tub was empty of water, sauna not in use, very limited menu choice only one dessert listed and on asking I was told it was not available. The worst thing of all was the vile smell of drains or sewage coming from bathroom, even with the door closed I could still smell it and had to wear N95 face mask while in the room, even while sleeping. No other guests seemed to be staying in hotel other than our group, felt like a ghost town.
A friend and I booked the Life Hotel Villa Sagrado (also branded as a Wellness Centre) for a three night stay in September 2023. We were drawn to Life by the facilities, website and positive reviews. Sadly, we were not as impressed by Life as others who have reviewed, and whilst I am not generally one to leave critical remarks, I felt it is important to convey our experiences whilst staying at Life.
The interior of the hotel is lovely. However, it was clear that we were one of the only (if not the only) customers and as a result, the hotel looked unused, unutilized, with facilities unopened, and the hotel was in a state of uncleanliness in certain areas. The pool was dirty and full of bugs (see pic) and therefore, we didn’t swim. The sauna and steam room were closed. We were advised we could use them for a fee (we chose not too as the hotel was expensive enough). We were also surprised to see no complementary water or coffee (they were available, for a fee). The restaurant was open (if we requested it), and there was also a rooftop restaurant which whilst closed, did exude loud music during the day! I was also very concerned to see photocopies of our passports left on unattended reception areas which poses a major data security breach.
Sadly, we were expecting a higher standard. What stops me from giving one star is some positives. As noted, the decor is lovely, and rooms were big and spacious with lovely bathrooms. The two staff members covering (and to my eye running) the hotel were lovely and helpful. They seemed understanding when we expressed our dissatisfaction and plans to leave early (we couldn’t stay three nights because of our experience there), and rightfully charged us for only two.
Our lasting impression was that this was an establishment in a state of transition to a Wellness centre, whilst trying to remain open as ‘Life Hotel’. Sadly, this led to a disappointing chapter in an otherwise great Peruvian trip.
Life Hotel Valle Sagrado is a true hidden gem. Situated in the middle of 'nowhere' far from the bustling city of Cusco yet close to the heart of Peru. It opens up one's mind and heart to the true real Peruvian experience. The somewhat drab exterior opens up to a beautiful , warm and welcoming interior. Great courteous service n helpful courteous staff. The complimentary breakfast was a delectable healthy array.. Swimming pool and pool tables n ping pong etc added to our experience. My only complain was the lunch buffet closes at 3pm. My only regret is we could not make it back in time to enjoy. We were out exploring. A staff member help us to arrange for a taxi for a most engaging wonderful exploration into Incan and pre Incan sights. This hidden gem will take your breath away and I highly recommend staying here' Life is a true hidden gem
I want to start off by saying Dan and the rest of the team who work here are 5+ stars.
Dan went above and beyond to help us during the stay. From organising taxis and getting us an early breakfast prepared when we went Machu Picchu early one morning.
When my husband was ill the medical team next door came to our hotel room and provided all support and medication to get him feeling better.
So the staff are amazing! I want to make that very clear.
I was however disappointed by the hotel. When we arrived and the whole time we were there it felt like a ghost town. No one was around.
The bars and restaurants are run independently from the hotel. But none of the bars were open at all during our stay. The only thing open was the buffet restaurant which didn’t open until 8.30pm. So we spent the evenings in our room.
The breakfast provided was minimal and not great.
The spa/pool was not being used. The pool was half full and did not look inviting and also closed at 6pm - but I would not have gone in there. There is also a lot of maintenance going on in the spa area. We could have gone in the steam room and sauna but they would be just turned on for us.
I had booked this hotel as I thought a wellness hotel would be great after treking Machu Picchu, but I just felt really disappointed by the hotel and it’s facilities.
A highly recommended hotel just outside of Urubamba and also very close to the train station for MP. The communication from the start has been quick and efficient. The manager was super friendly and helped us with everything and making sure our stay was perfect. The room was spacious and well decorated and the house keeping staff have a great sense of humour. The breakfast was a great way to start the day too! Laundry service was quick as well.
I just finished my stay at Life Hotel and I felt compelled to leave a review. I do not usually leave reviews. However my stay at Life Hotel far exceeded every expectation I could have had. Being Canadian and exploring a new country like Peru, I realized quickly how critical it is to find the right hotel in order to maximize the experience of the vacation. The hotel experience serves many purposes; Your needs are catered too, the food is unique and typical of the region, the service from the staff facilitates various experiences you wish to have and rooms provide comfort that far exceeds what would be required to feel relaxed and pampered.
Life Hotel checks all the boxes one could have before embarking on such a vacation. In fact the hotel has 'camelion-esk' qualities because of its unique location in the Sacred Valley. You want to spend all day at the hotel, it has all the amenities, you want to do a day trek it's within 30min of some of the best hikes on the planet, you want to simply walk around and relax, you're directly next to million dollar views of the Andes mountains. You want great food, there is a 5 star restaurant on location.
Alot of what I am saying about the hotel comes down to a very old school, extreme level of competency from the hotel manager Dan. Dan makes everything happen there, from the lowest level staff to the most esteemed guests Dan brings an aptitude to hotel management and customer service that just doesn't exist much anymore. It's clear he loves his work and it shows in his professionalism. Anything you need, treks, cabs, food and recommendations for anything in Peru he will arrange free of charge.
This place is a hidden gem and should be a place you make sure to spend some time at. You won't regret it.
I had an amazing stay here, the staff were lovely and it was very good service and food. The hotel manager Dan was very good to us and made our stay very enjoyable. The hotel itself was very lovely and clean and also in a good location
My stay at the Life Hotel was amazing. Dan (hotel manager) and his team did everything possible to make me and my family welcome and comfortable. He gave us advice on where to go, what to see and eat. The hotel has everything you require from the swimming pool on the terrace, sauna, great food to clean spacious rooms. My kids were kept entertained with the table tennis table, pool table and lots of other games they had available on site. It has lots of wash basin’s dotted around and space to eat in another area if you are concerned about covid. The location is excellent amongst rural beauty and surrounded by the andes mountains. It’s about 15 minute taxi ride into Ollantaytambo and 20 mins to Urubamba. Dan made us feel welcome and part of the Life Hotel family. Definitely would recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in the scared valley. From MP in the UK.
