My stay at the clansman hotel was short but intense, but I couldn't have wished for anything better for that price!
Iain, truly a saint, was super kind and attentive to me as a guest and none of my requests ever seemed to be a problem (which I'm otherwise used to, sadly). I arrived late and had to leave early both mornings, as well as having some special diet requirements (gluten free). Everything was seen to and provided. I even got to borrow a thermos flask for my outing during the day, and was graciously lent the laundry room to dry my soaked clothes after a rainy day on Skye, for which I'm truly grateful.
Could not recommend this small, charming, central little hotel enough if you're just travelling but would like a little more comfort than just a hostel.
Ian and the staff were very kind and knowledgeable. Housekeeping was thorough and friendly. We felt very comfortable staying there.
Very friendly staff. Comfortable rooms and great location!!
The welcome at the MacDougall Clansman is warm and genuine. The family have been in the hotel for many years and they are generous with their knowledge and time to ensure all guest needs are taken care of. Comfortable and quiet, despite the fantastic central location close to lively nightlife. Breakfast is delicious.
Nice & clean hotel that runs more like a B&B than hotel, with staff that make you feel very welcome. Excellent location to get anywhere you need to in Inverness via foot, bus, or train.

Clean, comfortable, quiet, in a great location with a fantastic host and complimentary made-to-order breakfast.
The room and beds were clean and comfortable. The host was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was the absolute best we’ve had during this trip.
Very good for 2 star property
My room was spacious, very clean, quiet and had a pleasant view. The hotel staff and owner are very helpful going out of their way to be accommodating.
Perfect location, in the heart of Inverness, with top notch towels and linens, very comfortable bed and impeccably decorated from the curtains to the pillows!
It was wonderful meeting the very helpful MacDougall family hotel manager and enjoying the full hot breakfast in the morning!
Very friendly and helpful hosts. Plenty of breakfast options and helped to sort an early breakfast out for when we had a coach trip to the Isle of Skye
Great service! Great communication and such kind people from even before I got there. Super convenient location as well
The Clansman hotel is in a great location near the train station and central Inverness. Staff/owners were accommodating and helpful. A clean, but older facility.
Stayed at the MacDougal Clansman Hotel for 3 nights this summer on a girls trip for myself and my aunt in her 60's. This is the perfect family-run operation in my opinion. Iain was in communication with us to coordinate for our check-in (we arrived on an incredibly early train into Inverness, unfortunately), and he was very accommodating. Not only did he offer to keep our bags, but a room opened up and he let us switch into the free room without any fuss so we could freshen up earlier than we'd thought we'd be able to. We ended up staying on the 2nd floor corner room (3rd floor for the fellow Americans) and had a great view down the street so we could people watch on our early nights. Some tourists out in the area were louder than others, but it was wholly unrelated to this hotel - I'll absolutely stay here again if I find myself in Inverness again. Very safe and as comfortable as staying with your own family.
Its a great location, you can walk anywhere you'll need to get in Inverness and won't have to call a cab. In fact, between the bus station (the ladies in the counter at the bus station were SUPER helpful as well - I highly recommend stopping by in person to coordinate your out-of-town travels) and the hop-on/hop-off bus, we were able to get all around town. We also took a day trip to Skye one of the days staying here and could walk to the pick-up spot easily! I can't emphasize the convenience of this location enough.
Thank you Iain and team! We'll be back!
Great location and staff were going out of their way to help
I would return to this hotel
Excellent Stay
This hotel truly feels like a home away from home. Guests are given a key to come and go as they please, as the front door is closed early for security. We had scheduled day trips that required us to leave before breakfast, and the host kindly prepared a basket with fruit, pastries, and instructions to make coffee — a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture.
The history of the hotel is remarkable. It is still operated by descendants of the MacDougall Clan, and you can see the heritage proudly displayed — from the tartan carpets to the upholstered chairs wearing the clan’s colors.
The hotel stands tall on a hill overlooking the River Ness and is located next to a church and graveyard steeped in the history of Inverness, including ties to the Battle of Culloden. Nearby, you'll find the Cathedral, the Castle, and other historic sites — all faithful witnesses to the resilience and beauty of this land through the passage of time.
Surrounded by restaurants, entertainment venues, and easily walkable streets, the hotel is perfectly situated for exploring the city. I would stay here if I return to Inverness.
