At the end of your tour when all of the monuments have been viewed, your guide will wish you goodbye in the Acropolis so you can stay on to take in the wonderful views over the city, and have more time for photo's. Your guide will point out the exit to make sure you are orientated.
MEETING OUR GUIDE. Your guide will be waiting at Makrygianni Street at the Acropolis Metro stop which is just around the corner from the Acropolis Main Entrance. Our tour visits the Acropolis either in the morning and afternoons 'Golden-Light' period, to both get ahead of the coach tours and heat of the day, but also to experience the lights effects on the Monuments of the Acropolis. The special light at this time heightens the honey-colored hues of the ancient temple's marble, as well as being the best light in which to experience some beautiful panoramic views over Athens.
Still in a good state of preservation, one of our first stops is the Ancient THEATER OF DIONYSUS. Built in the 4th & 5th century BC in a natural amphitheater o nthe slopes of the Acropolis it would have had an impressive capacity of 25000, it is considered the world's oldest. Amazing to think that many of the most famous Ancient Greek plays would have had their original premieres here!
Ascend towards the monumental gateway (Propylaia) and entrance to the Acropolis. As the Temples of the Acropolis come into view, the Ancient Greeks would have been greeted by an enormous decorated Bronze Statue of the Goddess Athena. As legend has it, the tip of her upheld spear could be seen by incoming ships in the sunlight.
Built around 420 BC, and one of the earliest temples of the Acropolis, this Classical Ionic Temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and is largely restored, with a prominent position overlooking the City.
The second largest temple of the Acropolis, the Erechtheion was Dedicated to both Zeus and the Goddess Athens and your guide will illuminate some of its wonderful Mythology and main aspects such as its impressive statues that you will now see in the Museum.
The pinnacle of the 'Golden-Age' of Classical Greece, this temple was an unrivaled mastepiece of Art, Architecture and Engineering as well as the heart of Ancient Greek ceremony and worship in Athens. We Take time at this most important temple with an overview of its construction, mythology and Historical importance.
Built in AD 161 by Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, this stunning Marble amphitheater continues as a working theater to the present day.
ENDING YOUR TOUR. After completion, your guide will leave you in the Acropolis so you have more time to enjoy the views & take photos.
