On our tour you will experience all the remaining classical temples & structures of this UNESCO World Heritage site including the iconic Parthenon, considered a masterpiece of classical Greek Architecture, the mystical Erechtheion, dedicated to the goddess Athena, & the Gigantic Propylaea, entrance portal as you learn about their fascinating Histories, Mythology, and the artistic expression which adorned them.
You will also see the remains of the Theater of Dionysus, which saw the first performances of Ancient Plays and the Herodes Atticus Theater.
This amazing site played a central role in the development of one of the worlds great civilizations and holds a central influence over the inhabitants of this ancient City stretched out in the panoramic views below.

Meeting and pickup
MEETING POINT: Makrigianni 7, Athina. 117 42 (close to the Acropolis Museum) Your guide will have a sign with the name of the lead traveler written.
At the end of your tour when all of the monuments have been viewed, your guide will wish you goodbye in the Acropolis so you can stay on to take in the wonderful views over the city, and for Photos. If selecting the option to include the Plaka or another site, then your tour will end there.

MEETING OUR GUIDE. Your guide will be waiting at Makrygianni Street at the Acropolis Metro stop which is just around the corner from the Acropolis Main Entrance. Our meeting spot provides an ideal perspective from which to view the surrounding wall of the Acropolis built by the earlier Mycenean civilization and to provide you with an introduction to the History of the Acropolis, its importance and role in the life of ancient Greece, and an overview of the temples & amazing monuments you are about to see.

Still in a good state of preservation, one of our first stops is the Ancient THEATER OF DIONYSUS. Built in the 4th & 5th century BC in a natural amphitheater o nthe slopes of the Acropolis it would have had an impressive capacity of 25000, it is considered the world's oldest. Amazing to think that many of the most famous Ancient Greek plays would have had their original premieres here!

Ascend towards the monumental gateway (Propylaia) and entrance to the Acropolis. As the Temples of the Acropolis come into view, the Ancient Greeks would have been greeted by an enormous decorated Bronze Statue of the Goddess Athena. As legend has it, the tip of her upheld spear could be seen by incoming ships in the sunlight.

Built around 420 BC, and one of the earliest temples of the Acropolis, this Classical Ionic Temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and is largely restored, with a prominent position overlooking the City.

The second largest temple of the Acropolis, the Erechtheion was Dedicated to both Zeus and the Goddess Athens and your guide will illuminate some of its wonderful Mythology and main aspects such as its impressive statues that you will now see in the Museum.

Built in AD 161 by Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, this stunning Marble amphitheater continues as a working theater to the present day.

ENDING YOUR TOUR. After completion, your guide will leave you in the Acropolis so you have more time to enjoy the views & take photos. If you have chosen a tour option continuing to a second site, you will continue with your guide, ending at your second site.
