After leaving the City our first stop will be at the Corinth Canal, which connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. This short 6km but Historic Canal separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland and was a project first conceived by a ruler of Ancient Corinth, and began by Roman emperor Nero, although not completed until 1893.
Entering into the region of the Peloponnese we follow rolling countryside full of olive groves & orchards making a wonderful transition to your first winery. Here you will be led by an expert Sommelier who will provide a tour of the facility where you will learn about the production & cultivation of various local wines followed by a tasting of five quality wines along with accompaniments.
The Archaeological Site of Nemea. Nemea was famous in Greek mythology in relation to Hercules and the Nemean Lion, and was the site of regular athletic games. The centrepiece of the Nemea Archaeological Site is the Sanctuary of Zeus at Nemea developed at the beginning of the 6th century BC and was a Classic Doric Temple, with a number of other buildings & monuments which were used in the religious and athletic ceremonies of the ancient Nemean Games.
The Stadium can also be seen at the Archaeological site and had a length of 178m. Athletes and the judges entered the Stadium through a vaulted tunnel and the baths in particular are well preserved with the original sinks still in place.
The Nemea Archaeological Museum is located within the Archaeological site. It contains a variety of associated artifacts from the coins of ancient visitors to pottery, tools, weapons and jewellery from the Mycenaean cemetery.
Finally, we visit our second winery of the day. The second winery is chosen for its production with different grape varieties & production in order to both broaden & deepen your knowledge & experience of the entire region. Similarly, you will sample a variety of wines along with accompaniments with the guidance from an in-house Sommelier.
