This is a self-guided exploration game where you'll be solving a paranormal case involving real people and their wandering ghosts. The file on Bucharest's old centre has been open since 1967. You, with your detective and observational skills, and a little help from the Questo app, will try to close it in 2 hours.
The route runs from Cismigiu Garden along Calea Victoriei to the Old Town, past 13 of the city's darkest addresses. Your job is to hear out the dead and check their stories against the record.
You'll discover dark stories like a church the crowd carried home brick by brick, a plague cart-man who lost one of his dead, and a widow who hid a prince's grave for 194 years.
Each location involves inspecting a real-world object and solving a challenge.
Best after dark with your phone torch on. About 3.2 km of walking, with unlimited breaks.
Hints and 24/7 support if you get stuck.
Perfect for Halloween or any night you're in the mood for creepy ghost stories.
The game starts at the French memorial in Cismigiu Park. After booking, we'll message you a code and activation link. Activate with your own email, then log in to the Questo app with that email. No message? Open the app, tap "Bought a quest somewhere else?" and enter your booking reference number.
The game ends in University Square, by the equestrian statue in front of the University.
You'll start in Cismigiu Garden, where the app opens your case file and introduces the agent running it. Your first task is to find a carved stone by an old spring and spot the word missing from your photo. You'll learn who the stone woman bent over the basin really is, and why the grave she seems to mourn isn't here.
You'll cross to Kretzulescu Church beside Revolution Square and solve a riddle about the bronze statue on a high pillar nearby. You'll learn who really built the church, and why it carries her husband's name instead.
You'll stop by the National Military Circle and find the word hidden under the sticker on the fountain in your photo. You'll learn about the monastery that stood here for 240 years, and the crowd that carried its bricks home when it came down.
You'll reach the CEC Palace and spot what's missing from your photo of its carved front. You'll learn about the man who wrote the first Romanian grammar, buried in a graveyard that now lies under the bank.
You'll walk into the courtyard of Stavropoleos Monastery, decode a scrambled message and find a date on the old stones in the cloister. You'll learn where those carved stones came from, and why they belong to churches people still alive went to on Sundays.
You'll stop at the small Church of Saint Demetrius off Lipscani and pick the right carved mask out of four photos. You'll learn about the Easter fire of 1847, which burned a third of the city while nobody counted the dead.
You'll reach the Old Court and Manuc's Inn and find what's missing from your photo of the inn's sign. You'll learn about the 1459 charter that first put Bucharest's name in writing, and how a London novelist turned the prince who signed it into Dracula.
You'll stand by the Kilometre Zero marker and compare the statue of Constantin Brâncoveanu with your photo to find what's missing. You'll learn how his widow hid his grave in plain sight, and why nobody read it for 194 years.
You'll stop at Colțea Hospital, the oldest in the city, and use a line-and-letter code on a stone plaque to find a password. You'll learn about the plague of 1813 and the cart-men who came for the dead, and sometimes for the living.
You'll finish in University Square and pick the right photo of the rider's raised weapon out of four. You'll learn how whole churches were put on rails and moved in the 1980s, and how one still hides behind a block of flats.
