Cooking Class 4 Hours with a local Mom in Cartagena

This experience is for those who want to truly connect with the real culture of Cartagena.

We will visit a popular local neighborhood outside the Old City to share an authentic afternoon with a local family. We meet at 3:00 pm at Juan Valdez Coffee Shop at the Convention Center in Getsemaní. From there, we’ll head to a family home located about 20 minutes from the historic center.

You’ll be welcomed into a warm local kitchen and introduced to the family who will host us.

Together, guided by a local mom, we’ll prepare traditional Colombian dishes from scratch. We’ll start with crispy empanadas served with homemade sauces. Then we’ll cook a main course such as arroz con coco, plátano en tentación or patacones, paired with your choice of beef, pork, chicken, or fish — all made using authentic local techniques. We’ll also prepare a fresh salad and enjoy a natural fruit juice.

To truly experience local life, we’ll visit the neighborhood corner store to enjoy fresh fruit and chat with locals — a simple but meaningful way to connect with everyday life in Cartagena.

For dessert, we’ll bake a delicious yuca cake with coconut and cheese
