The Puente de Occidente was built in 1895, so named because it is located in western Antioquia, is a Colombian suspension hanging bridge that connects the towns of Olaya and Santa Fe de Antioquia, to the east and west of the Cauca River, respectively. At the time it was considered the seventh most important suspension bridge in the world. Puente de Occidente was the longest of its kind in the entire subcontinent, and that is why historically and culturally it has been so important, being at the time a cornerstone in the development of the region and the country.
