Located on the banks of the Nile, the temple of Luxor is entirely dedicated to the god Amon. Its construction was started by Amenophis III (1400 BC) and continued by Ramses II who notably added two obelisks of perfect proportions, before Alexander the Great made it undergo some adjustments. The time of Luxor is an architecturally rather coherent site, compared to Karnak where a certain cacophony reigns.

Isis was venerated there, the universal mother, one of the most important goddesses of Egyptian antiquity and wife of Osiris. Then Philae was the last place to practice ancient beliefs. In the 4th century AD. J.-C., we still prayed to the goddess Isis and the emperor Theodosius worried about this devotion, ordered the closure of the temple. (driver available).

    Abu Simbel Temple Complex

290 kilometers south of Aswan, Abu Simbel is the largest sacred site in Nubia, both in size and the quality of its architecture, sculptures and bas-reliefs. The construction of the dam required the dismantling stone by stone of the two temples at the very top of the cliff in which they had been dug. The temple was therefore raised by about 60 meters. The task was complex, since it was necessary to reconstruct the mountain as it was. The two temples were first cut into blocks of 15 tons, which corresponds to the clearing of 31,0000 tons of rock, without using explosives. Each of the stones has been numbered and then reassembled. A support vault was built and the whole backfilled in the form of an artificial mountain. Other solutions to save the temple were at one time considered. One of them was to put the temple under a kind of glass bell under water.
