Our driver will meet you at your hotel at 08:30 and depart for Ancient Olympia, traveling along the highway through the Peloponnese. After about an hour, we will make a short stop at the Corinth Canal to rest and take photos. The canal’s iron bridge was once the only road entrance to the Peloponnese until the Rio-Antirrio bridge opened in 2004. Today, mid-range cruisers and smaller ships still pass through the narrow canal, shortening their journey between the Aegean and Ionian Seas.
Following the highway to Patras, a major commercial and passenger port of Greece, we arrive at the village of Olympia, one of the most celebrated sacred sites of Ancient Greece and the birthplace of the Olympic Games, which began in 776 B.C. Stroll through the archaeological site and admire the Temple of Zeus, once home to the legendary gold and ivory statue of the god, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Explore the Temple of Hera, one of Greece’s oldest monumental temples, the Bouleuterion, where the Organizing Committee and officials of the Games once gathered, and the Stadium, where the original Olympic competitions took place. After exploring the ruins, visit the nearby archaeological museum, home to masterpieces of classical art, including the famous Hermes of Praxiteles.
Visit a local honey farm, where, under the shade of the trees, you can enjoy a coffee or juice paired with handmade local desserts, all crafted using honey produced on the farm for generations. The owner will share stories of how village families lived and worked the land, both in the past and today, giving you a glimpse into life across the generations. Through a hands-on presentation of traditional beekeeping tools, you will learn about the fascinating life of bees, from ancient practices to modern methods, and gain a deeper appreciation for the craft and heritage behind this sweet local treasure.
