With hotel pickup by your friendly English-speaking driver, you’ll explore at your own pace and can fully customize your itinerary. Begin at the ancient Temple of Demeter, dedicated to the goddess of harvest, then head to Damalas to witness traditional pottery making. In Chalki, the island’s former capital, enjoy art boutiques and taste Kitron at a historic distillery. Stop at Filoti for lunch or coffee beneath shady plane trees, and continue to marble-paved Apeiranthos, rich in culture and museums. Visit the giant Kouros of Apollonas, a centuries-old statue resting in the open. End at Eggares, where you’ll tour a traditional olive oil press and sample local flavors. After a full day of discovery, your driver will return you comfortably to your hotel.

The temple of Demeter was built in 530-520 BC. The temple is estimated to have been built a century before the Parthenon and was dedicated to the god Apollo, the view of Demeter and her daughter Persephone. Dimitra was the goddess of agriculture and fertility for this and the temple was built in a fertile valley next to the village of Sangri!
