Saqqara contains the oldest complete stone building complex known in history, the Pyramid of Djoser, built during the Third Dynasty. Another sixteen Egyptian kings built pyramids at Saqqara, which are now in various states of preservation. High officials added private funeral monuments to this necropolis during the entire Pharaonic period. It remained an important complex for non-royal burials and cult ceremonies for more than 3000 years, well into Ptolemaic and Roman times.
next step to one of the oldest stone in the world ,Located south of Saqqara, the Dahshur necropolis is home to some of Egypt’s earliest and most unique pyramids. This site offers a rare glimpse into the evolution of pyramid construction during the Old Kingdom, particularly under Pharaoh Sneferu. The Bent Pyramid stands out with its unusual shape, showcasing a dramatic change in angle halfway up—believed to be an early experiment in pyramid engineering. Nearby lies the Red Pyramid, Egypt’s first successful true smooth-sided pyramid, and the third-largest pyramid in the country. Dahshur is less crowded than Giza, offering a peaceful and awe-inspiring experience among ancient wonders.
Pyramid of Unas – The First Pyramid Texts- Note close at 11:55 AM ( VERY LIMITED ) The Pyramid of Unas, located at the Saqqara necropolis, belongs to Unas, the last pharaoh of Egypt’s Fifth Dynasty. Though small in size, this pyramid holds enormous historical and spiritual importance. Unas’ pyramid is the first known pyramid to feature Pyramid Texts—a collection of ancient religious inscriptions carved into the walls of the burial chamber. These sacred spells were meant to guide the king in the afterlife and became the foundation for later funerary texts like the Coffin Texts and Book of the Dead. The inner corridors are still accessible today, allowing visitors to walk through history and stand in the presence of the world’s earliest religious scripture.
