This Gorilla Trekking and Masai Mara safari will take you on a gratifying journey to see Uganda’s endangered gorillas and Kenya’s wildlife in the Masai Mara.
Your trip starts off in Entebbe Uganda before you proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will see endangered mountain gorillas in their natural rainforest habitat.
You will hike in the thick forest to find the mountain gorillas, and then spend 1 hour observing them before heading back. From Bwindi, you will then go back to Kampala with a stopover at the equator line for photography and souvenir shopping. You will fly from Entebbe to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
In Masai Mara, you will go on several game drives to see the plentiful animals that live in this wonderful savannah. If your safari is during the migration season, you will get to experience the wonderful chaos of the great wildebeest migration.
Our driver/guide will be waiting at Entebbe International Airport to pick you up and then transfer you to your accommodation for the night.
You will embark on a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. The 9-hour journey will take you through the Ugandan countryside with farms, small towns, plantations, and interesting landscapes on your way to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. There are plenty of interesting stopovers along the way including lunch in Mbarara. You will reach your lodge in the evening.
Today is the big day! Prepare yourself for an encounter with the gentle giants; the rare mountain gorillas. For most people, this is the absolute highlight of their tour. You will go into the forest in groups of not more than 8 in search of mountain gorillas. En route, your guide will point out previous signs of gorilla activity such as dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots. Your trek will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes, and bamboo. Upon finding the gorillas, you will spend a maximum of 1 hour with them after which you will be led back to the starting point.
After an early breakfast, your driver/guide will drive you from Bwindi to Kampala/Entebbe. This is a long drive of approximately 9 hours that will take you from the cooler mountainous altitude of the Kigezi Highlands to the lower undulating landscape of Ankole and Buganda, with large farms and plantations dotted with villages and small towns. You will have several stopovers along the way including the equator crossing in Kayabwe for some pictures. You should reach Kampala in the early evening hours with enough time to freshen up before your flight out of Uganda. With few stops this time, you should reach Entebbe in the evening.
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, your guide will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight to Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve with Aero link.
Depending on the Wildlife migration patterns and the weather, an early morning breakfast is followed by a full day of game drives within the reserve. The Masai Mara is famous for its black mane lions and the annual wildebeest migration. This is probably one of Kenya’s most visited reserves with an extraordinary density of animals including the Big five and many other varieties of savannah wildlife. The Mara River cuts through the Mara and Serengeti ecosystems giving life to both reserves before finally pouring out into Lake Victoria. Impressive and most notable is the wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle instinct-led migration from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Mara in Kenya. This journey is coupled with numerous obstacles which makes it even more magnificent. You will have a picnic lunch and continue with the game drives arriving at the lodge in the evening for a well-deserved rest and a hot relaxing shower.
After Breakfast, you will go for yet another game drive as you follow the Migration of the wildebeests across the Mara River.
You will be treated to an optional final early morning game drive after which you will return to the lodge for breakfast. Embark on your journey back to Nairobi with a brief stopover at Narok town. Proceed to Nairobi city and to the JKIA for your flight back home.
