The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, standing at around 18 meters (59 feet) high on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor. Built over 3,400 years ago, these statues once guarded the entrance to Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple, which was among the largest in ancient Egypt. Despite centuries of erosion and earthquakes, the Colossi remain an iconic symbol of Egypt’s grandeur and are famous for the mysterious "singing" sounds they once emitted at dawn, believed to be caused by temperature changes in the stone.
