Melanin Miami takes you into that story.
Journey through Historic Overtown, once known as the “Harlem of the South,” where some of the biggest names in Black history stayed, performed and gathered. Discover Miami’s Civil Rights history, meet the city’s first Black millionaire, uncover the story of a luxury resort envisioned for Black travelers during segregation, and hear stories rarely included in the traditional telling of Miami’s history.
But Melanin Miami isn’t a history lesson from a textbook. The stories come alive through the neighborhoods, the people and, of course, the food.
Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, Melanin Miami will introduce you to a side of the city you probably never knew existed.

Learn about the history behind the neighborhood, how it got it's name and take a few stops at several historic stops located here. We will also end the tour here with a sampler meal at a popular soul food restaurant.
