There’s a side of Miami most visitors never get to see.
Beyond the beaches and nightlife is a history deeply rooted in the Black communities that helped build, shape and influence this city.
Melanin Miami takes you into that story.
Journey through Historic Overtown, once known as the “Harlem of the South,” where some of the biggest names in Black history stayed, performed and gathered. Discover Miami’s Civil Rights history, meet the city’s first Black millionaire, uncover the story of a luxury resort envisioned for Black travelers during segregation, and hear stories rarely included in the traditional telling of Miami’s history.
But Melanin Miami isn’t a history lesson from a textbook. The stories come alive through the neighborhoods, the people and, of course, the food.
Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, Melanin Miami will introduce you to a side of the city you probably never knew existed.
