On arrival at Dimapur airport meet your driver and guide and proceed to Kohima. On arrival check in at your hotel. Rest time free and easy to relax and explore the surrounding.
Breakfast at hotel. Visit the State Museum where you get a glimpse of the tribal life and colourful costumes of the Nagas. The local market where many insects and variety of food products that the Nagas call delicacies are sold. The II World War Memorial where the famous 'Tennis Court' battle took place, which many historians have called the 'bloodiest battle'. Return to hotel for lunch. After lunch we visit Kisama Heritage Village. This is the site where the annual Hornbill festival from the 1st Dec-7th Dec is celebrated. Here you will get a glimpse of the different architectural styled houses of the 16 tribes of Nagaland. Return to your hotel
Breakfast at hotel drive to Khonoma, a village with its own unique story of courage and valour. The villagers fought a pitched battle against the British who came on an expedition to the Naga Hills in Oct of 1879. The terraced fields on the slopes near the village provide a delightful view. The village is also known for its artisans and craftsmen. Spend the day interacting with the villagers. We take a delightful walk to Khonoma village from the main gate. Take a tour of the village after lunch and feel the history come to life.
Explore the surroundings. This morning we take a soft trekking route through the reserve forest to the Tragopan bird sanctuary. Have picnic lunch cooked in open fire and return by early evening to the village.
After breakfast drive to Touphema village & then walk to Angami village. This is a village resort where the community plays a very important role in running this place. You will be staying in huts with all modern amenities. Lunch will be served and we will take a tour of both the old Touphema village and the new, visit the village museum. In the evening enjoy cultural entertainment by the villagers.
Explore the surroundings and walk through the village and the forested area. After breakfast take a trail to the neighbouring Rengma village through the forest. The trail is soft trekking and will reach the village in 3 ½ hrs. Take a tour of this village. Lunch is served at this village. Return to Touphema village
After breakfast drive to Majuli till Nimathi-Ghat to connect a local ferry to cross mighty Brahmanputra river with co-passengers on board! The ferry ride will take little more than one hour or so, depending on the current of the water. After reaching Kamalabari Ghat transfer to your lodge. After check in explore local village of Mishing tribe nearby, meet local, have tea or local rice beer at their place. Later visit and interact with the local mask-maker. Majuli - perhaps the largest river island is a treasure of cultural heritage of the region. The founder of ‘Eka Naam Dharma’ Srimanta Shankardeva took shelter in Majuli in the Fifteenth Century and ever since that Majuli has emerged as the crowning glory of Vaishnavaite culture in Assam. Majuli has a unique treasure of natural and cultural attractions. After breakfast transfer to Kamalabari ghat to connect ferry to reach Nimathi-Ghat. From here drive to Dibrugarh a renowned tea city of India and check in at hotel. Later visit Jokai Botanical Garden cum Germplasm Center, which has some endangered plant species. Shrikshetra Dhaam, Lord Jagannath Temple which is the replica of the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri Odisha, one of the most important temples in Assam. Koli Aai Thaan which is the spiritual centre dedicated to Koli Aai whose teachings still hold a large place in people’s heart. You can visit Sarumechlow and Bormechow Maidam which are the graves of 2 queens belonging to the Ahom Dynasty; Dehing Satra that holds the ruins belonging to Ahom Dynasty; the Buddhist Monastery at Namphake Village; and many more places like these. Rest time to visit the local market, followed by cultural program in the evening at a Heritage Bungalow.
Breakfast at hotel, Excursion to visit Jeypore Rainforest. Spread over an area of 108 sq. km, this forest is famous for its biodiversity and is full of various species of flora and fauna. It comes under world heritage of evergreen rain forest and it rains almost all throughout the year. The forest has more than 102 species of orchids here along with a wide variety of animals and plants. Some of the common trees that are abundant in the forest are Ajar, Segun, Nahar, Bohot, and Sam. Hollong is the dominant species of trees here and the these trees reach up to a height of 50 metres. Animals that can be seen in this forest are elephants, hornbills, leopards, flying squirrels, pythons, spotted deer, and langurs to name a few. Return to your hotel and rest time to visit Heritage Tea Garden to see the origin and the history of tea - how it is grown and its culture. Visit the tea factory to observe the full process of manufacturing of CTC (Crush, Tear and Curl) tea. Visit Mancotta Tea Estate- known for traditionally producing the fine orthodox variety of tea. Note: Tea factory opens from April till November every year.
